Café Aroma, supporting the hospitality training project run by Casa Vida ½ day Day tour Resistance museum Alola Foundation Santa Cruz cemetery A local market Christo Rei Pousada Baucau, enjoy Portuguese style from a bygone era before we head off into the districts Sightseeing along the panoramic N/E coast Basket making villages Manatutu market, learn about and sample local fruit & vegies Laleia church & birthplace of Xanana Gusmao Arrive in Baucau with the option of swim in the Pousada Pool (Travel time to Baucau - 3 hours) Page 1
3. Wednesday 29 th Los Palos ADM nuns guesthouse Serene guesthouse in beautiful garden setting. Basic but clean rooms with mozzie nets. Ensuite bathroom with cold showers, & mandi, non-flush western pedestal toilets Morning tea and lunch with the L oud women, a women s weaving group supported by ETWA young women of the ADM training Centre Arrive in Los Palos in time for morning tea prepared by the L oud women. Learn about the traditional art of weaving & natural dying from the experts. See firsthand how this amazing collective of women s groups work together in solidarity. Share lunch with the women. Afternoon visit Los Palos Art Centre and learn how Many Hands is preserving culture and promoting traditional and contemporary art forms. (Travel time Baucau Lospalos 2 ½ hrs) 4. Thursday 30 th Los Palos ADM nuns As above Morning tea at the village of Home. The young women will show off their pizza making skills at ADM s restaurant Fitun Naroman, (bright star). Wake up to an early chorus Meet with the Sisters and learn about the work of the ADM nuns in Los Palos Visit the village of Home (30 min drive) and learn about the village lifestyle, share morning tea and weaving demonstration A leisurely afternoon walking tour of Los Palos 5. Friday 1 st Jaco Lukamore Guesthouse in idyllic location right on the beach. Shared bedrooms, mattresses on floor with mozzie domes & fans. Very basic shared bathrooms, mandi bucket for bathing and non-flush western pedestal toilets girls attending the ADM training centre Tutuala Pousada Buffet banquet guesthouse, hopefully with lots of fresh fish Morning shopping for fruit & vegies. Sightseeing and traditional villages of Lautem district. Arrive at the village of Tutuala for lunch & pick up our local guide Optional 1 ½ hour trek to sacred cave or continue in the car to the guesthouse to relax or walk on the beach. Time & weather permitting optional boat ride to Jaco Island for snorkeling & Beach combing if not we will do that the next day Overnight at the beach, learn some Timorese songs (Travel time Los Palos - Tutuala/Valu beach 2 ½ hrs) Page 2

Saturday 2 nd Baucau Tata Totu lunch On the balcony at Amalia s restaurant in Baucau Return to Baucau and visit the CTID Training Centre handcraft shop with people engaged in education/community development With locals at Victoria s restaurant in Baucau An evening of traditional song and dance performed for us by the girls of CTID Training Centre (Travel time Baucau Tutuala/Valu Beach 3 hours) 7. Sunday 3 rd Dive Centre Lodge As Above Prepared for us by the women of the Venilale community centre Visit the village of Venilale which is about 40 minutes South of Baucau. Along the way we see some great views of Mt Matebian. We will do a walking tour of Venilale and meet some local weavers as well as learn more about the local history and culture TBC in Return to in the afternoon (Travel time to Baucau - 3 hours) 8. Monday 4 th Suai Eastern Dragon Hotel Eastern Dragon Hotel Camenasa Restaurant Fly to Suai: The ZEEMS plane is a 16 seater plane and the trip takes 40 minutes Morning Visit Cova Lima Community Centre Morning tea and performance by Suai dancers Afternoon Visit traditional village of Suai Loro, Meet women s handcraft group Sightseeing at the beach and oil pump Airport and supply base (Travel time to Suai: 40 minutes by plane or 6 hours by car) 9. 10. Wednesday 6 th Maliana lunch Picnic lunch on route 11. Thursday 7 th 12. Friday 8 th Balibo Ramascora Resort or Betania training centre We will aim for but not promise a hot water shower tonight, if not we will make sure there is a great view. Balibo Fort Hotel Opened in March 2015. It is built on an old Portuguese Fort and has some of the best views, best accommodation and best food in Timor- Leste. You are in for a real treat! Dive Centre Lodge As Above Restorante Maliana prepared for us by OHM Haburus Moris feto grupu Balibo fort hotel On the water front at Cameo beach in Liquica Farewell dinner TBC in Travel from Suai to Maliana. This road is slow and bumpy but has some spectacular views via Bobonaro. We will stop along the way to take photos, meet people and have a picnic lunch (Travel time Suai Maliana 4 ½ hrs) Spend the day exploring Maliana and visiting OHM Haburus Moris, a NGO that supports women s groups in Maliana and a trip out of town to visit women s agricultural group. (Travel time Maliana Balibo les than1 hour) In Balibo visit the community Centre and learn about Indonesian times from our local guide. We then travel to the Indonesian border before travelling along the historical NW coast stopping at the Dutch fort of Maubara to visit the women s basket weavers kiosks. Visit historic Liquica and learn about the traumatic events that occurred here Enjoy a relax and swim in the ocean at Cameo beach Arrive back in, get settled into the accommodation before we have a farewell dinner on the waterfront (Travel time Balibo 3 ½ hrs) Page 4
NOTES: If you have areas of specific interest or places you really want to see let me know and I ll do my best to include these. Whilst we will do our best to confirm all meetings and visits things change frequently in Timor-Leste and people have many competing demands on their time. Be assured we guarantee you will meet many inspirational women and visit a variety of great programs, we always have a plan B & C ready to put in place. Our hosts are able to accommodate special dietary requirements, just let me know. We eat well on tour, purchasing fresh local produce along the way. Optional gentle morning yoga practice is available for those interested, just let me know. Travelling in Timor-Leste can be physically challenging due to the heat and time spent on bumpy roads. In addition the terrain is rough for walking. Please let me know your level of fitness so I can take this into account when planning our activities. Travel times in itinerary refer to number of hours actually spent in the car, we stop frequently along the way We require 6 bookings for this tour to proceed; final decision will be made in the 3 rd week of April. Please limit luggage to one medium piece and small day pack. Soft luggage is much easier to pack into the vehicles.
