SURF COAST SECONDARY COLLEGE Bus Information

School Bus Program While parents/guardians have primary responsibility for transporting their children to and from school, the School Bus Program assists families in rural and regional Victoria by transporting students to school. The program services both government and non-government schools. Categories of eligibility determine whether a student travels at no cost or travels upon the payment of a fare. Students wishing to access a seat on a bus must complete an application form and parents/guardians must agree to the conditions of travel including, if applicable, the payment of a fare. To be eligible for a school bus program provided bus service you need to: Reside in Victoria further than 4.8 kilometres from the College Be attending your closest Government school Be of school age (between 6 and 18) Surf Coast Secondary College currently has two School Bus Program provided services that cater to our students who live in Anglesea. One of these services travels inland via Bellbrae and another that travels along the Great Ocean Road through Jan Juc. Some students living in Jan Juc are eligible for the Anglesea School Bus Program Service, although the School Bus Program Policy states that the SBP provided services have priority to students who are eligible and do not have access to a Public Bus service where families can claim conveyance allowance. In Jan Juc, students have access to the T6 and the T10 school services as well as the public Bus Routes 50 and 51. We encourage our students living in Jan Juc to purchase a yearly or half yearly student pass and claim conveyance for the cost of these MYKI passes to allow room on the SBP provided services for students living in Anglesea. To travel on the SBP provided services we require the application forms to be filled out so that we can provide information to the bus companies and have a record of the number of students who are currently utilising these services. These forms need to be completed yearly to ensure your child has a seat on the bus. Surf Coast Secondary College updates the bus list every term. If you are interested in a seat on the bus, all new applications must be submitted before Monday, Week 2 of each Term to ensure there is a place available on the bus. Our College bus routes are often referred to as the T Services. The T Services are based on already existing public bus routes with small alterations to suit our students. Outlined in this brochure will be both the T Service buses as well as the public bus route services. In the case that your child missed the T Service in the morning or in the afternoon it is likely that there will be another service coming soon after. We believe it is important that the children who are catching buses to and from school have a thorough understanding of the bus system and are capable and confident to do so. For more information about the School Bus Program Policy please refer to the Department of Education and Training School Bus Program Policy and Procedures: http://www.education.vic.gov.au/documents/school/principals/management/sbppolicyandprocedures.pdf For any Further information please contact Ashleigh Hughes Bus Co-ordinator Surf Coast Secondary College P: 03 5261 6633 F: 03 5264 8867 E: busses@scsc.vic.edu.au
