VISITING THE ROMAN BATHS

I am going to visit The Roman Baths with.. You may like to draw a picture of you and your companions here.

When I arrive at The Roman Baths, I will use these doors to go inside. I will see a security guard by the door, but I don t need to be scared, they are there to look after me. I can say Hello if I want to.

I will go straight ahead through these doors to go into the museum. If I need to, I can turn left to use the men s toilets or right to use the ladies toilets. Stairs to Men s Toilets Corridor to Ladies Toilets Entrance to adapted toilet

I will see lots of signs around the museum telling me which way to go.

If I need any help, I can ask a member of staff. They wear blue uniforms with a name badge.

This is the Entrance Hall. I will join the queue to buy or collect my ticket. It can be busy and noisy in the entrance hall. If I am struggling, I can talk to someone and they can help me bypass the queue.

I will buy or collect my tickets here. The cashier will give my tickets to me. This is one of the tills. There are four tills on a round desk with a glass top. I can buy a guidebook here too.

I will be offered an audio-guide here, and if I would like one, I can take one. I can press 111 followed by the green button and I will hear a voice through the speaker. It will tell me what to do next.

I can wear these if it is too noisy, they will block out some of the sounds. I can also take a written version of the audio guide if I prefer. If I need any help, I just need to ask a member of staff.

I will go outside onto the Terrace where I will see lots of statues. If it is raining the terrace may be closed. Outer Terrace Inner Terrace

When I am ready, I will go down these stairs into the museum. The museum is underground. If I want to, I can take pictures. There are not any flashing images within the museum, but flash photography is allowed.

If I want or need to, I can use the lifts around the museum. I can ask for help if I need it. Lift A Lift B Lift C Lift D

I will walk through the museum now. I will see lots of objects and artefacts on display, including a skeleton. It can be busy and noisy in here, but I can leave if I want to.

I can touch lots of the objects inside the museum. There are lots of different textures and surfaces.

I will see lots of videos around the site, some of them will make noises. If there is an emergency, I need to follow these signs with my companion.

This area is called the Temple Courtyard. I will walk across a metal walkway. It might be slightly colder in here and its smells different.

I will now go down to the Roman remains. I can use these stairs or use the lift. I can also take the stairs or lift back to the main entrance from here if I want to.

At the bottom of the stairs you will find one of our shops.

This is the spring overflow, if I hold out my hand; I might be able to feel the heat coming off the water. When I am ready, I will go through this door to The Great Bath. I will be outside again.

I am standing on the Roman remains. The Romans came here 2000 years ago to socialise and get clean. There might be lots of people around the Great Bath.

The Pavement is very old. I will be careful when walking around because it is uneven and can be slippery. The water in the Great Bath is green. I can t touch it because it is not clean.

I will see actors dressed as Romans around the side of the bath. I can talk to them if I want to.

I can go into the East Baths. It is dark in here and there are videos playing. They will show me what the Romans did 2000 years ago.

I will walk through the West Baths.

I can walk across a glass walkway if I want to but I don t have to. There is a normal pathway on one side.

I can try the Spa water here. It is very warm and tastes strange. If I don t want to taste it, I can put my hand underneath the water to feel how hot it is.

I will hand my audio guide, and anything else I have borrowed, back to a member of staff. Sometimes, if somebody forgets to give their audio guide back, an alarm will go off.

I will walk up these stairs to leave the museum.

There is a shop at the top of the stairs. I can buy myself a souvenir here. If I want to buy something, I can pay for it here.

I have been to visit The Roman Baths! You could draw a picture of the best thing you saw or did at The Roman Baths.
