The same blue Ford insignia that is on our Model A s is just like the one we saw on the Fords this Saturday at Bill Knight. I like for things to stay the same and stand the test of time. We enjoyed a beautiful September morning showing off our A s on International Model A Day. Several people stopped to see the old cars and ask questions. I think that is the goal of the day for members to enjoy driving their cars and sharing them with the public. Our club made a positive change by moving to East Central Jr. High. Thanks to Rich Robinson, we enjoyed the meeting much more in the large comfortable chairs in the new location. Dave Hayes invited Ray Evins with the Tulsa Fire Department to our meeting for a very interesting presentation on home fire safety. Another change that is coming is new board members. This year s committee of Don Reed, Jeanne Washburn and I have already been talking to prospective members about serving on the board. Three members rotate off this year, Jeanne Washburn, Rich Robinson, and me. I was visiting with Kent Washburn and Rich Robinson on Saturday while we were at Bill Knight s Ford and we all agreed that you learn a lot about our club while serving on the board. So, your club wants you to get involved by serving. If you are interested, contact one of the three committee members. The names of the members that have agreed to serve will be announced at the October 21 club meeting. At the November business meeting nominations for the board will be accepted. The final vote for the new board members will be completed. The new board will be introduced at the December 6 Christmas Party. The Fall Tour is just about here. I believe everyone that plans to attend has made hotel reservations and has a route that they want to travel. The group that plans to leave on Thursday, October 16th and stay at Roman Nose State Lodge will finalize their leaving time this Saturday at the October 4th Breakfast and Safety Check. Remember the breakfast this Saturday at the Apple Barrel will start at 8:30am so members can go to Marvin s shop for a safety check. Sometimes with all of this change I have to mark dates and times on my desk calendar. If I could only find it, I would be a happy Model A er.

Nuts and Bolts (or Miscellaneous Tidbits) By Ken Brust We had 7 cars at the grand finale Tulsa Fly-In in Bartlesville. Thanks to all of you who attended. Our Experimental Aircraft Association group is the primary sponsor, and the group really enjoys having our old cars in attendance. We had the Ford Tri-Motor there again for this event, so Ford was well represented! It was the first time I can remember when the coupes outnumbered the fordors!! The day began dark and foggy but soon cleared up into a beautiful day for flying and Model-A driving! Senator Inhofe flew in with his little plane. There were several antique planes that had been beautifully restored including several warbirds. One of the biplanes that flew in was flown by a fraternity brother of mine. Jan Ham volunteered as an EAA member and drove the tractor pulling a tram for the visitors to and from the parking lot. This was the final Tulsa Fly-In after 58 consecutive years. The age group between 60-90 is the primary age that finds aviation so exciting and thrilling. The younger crowd seems to take aviation more for granted and is tied up with other interests. Rodger Johnson gave us all a very important lesson on the proper delivery of the Pledge of Allegiance at our latest club meeting. Thank you very much, Rodger. Many of us always knew the correct manner but normally just went along with the crowd with the pause prior to under God. You are a true patriot and we all thank you! I ve noticed the Saturday edition of the Tulsa World is running interesting articles on old cars in the classified sections. I ve normally just discarded this section but now am reading some interesting history on some long forgotten old cars. Check it out! I was in Reno recently for a squadron reunion in conjunction with TailHook and took time to tour Harrah s amazing car collection. If you ever get a chance, check this place out! Greg and Sheryl Hoyle are now in the new and used Model A parts business. Give them a shout if you need some help. They are club members of ours who live in Oklahoma City. They drive their Model A s constantly and won the award last year for most miles driven. I think they logged close to 10,000 miles in one year! They drove up to Bartlesville for the final Tulsa Fly-In and said they were only around 5,000 so far for this year!! Amazing!! I think I m still working on my first 1,000 miles for the year. They are true Model A lovers! Happy trails to you The Rumble Sheet - 2 - October 2014
