VOLUME 7, ISSUE 3 FEBRUARY 2016 MPs COME AND TRY GOLD PROSPECTING S PECIAL POINTS OF INTEREST : As can be seen from the graph below the GOLD PRICE rose from a low of $1465.00 to a high of $1602.00 and finishing solidly at $1575.00. The Australian dollar has dropped to $.70853. Darren Kamp with David Southwick MP and the gold nugget David found on his first gold prospecting outing. G old & Relics was asked to host a Ministerial visit for the Liberal Party on behalf of the Prospectors & Miners Association of Victoria in January. The participating Ministers of Parliament were Louise Staley, Member for Ripon and David Southwick, Member for Caulfield and Shadow Minister for Innovation, Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources, Shadow Minister for Renewables. Louise Staley, as the Member for Ripon, represents most of the Golden Triangle in Victoria. Louise has always been very sympathetic toward prospectors and small miners so it was very appropriate that she came along and had a go at the hobby that a lot of her constituents pursue. David Southwick is a city lawyer. In light of this nobody thought that he would take to prospecting at all. However, David surprised us. In fact, it took quite a while for us to retrieve the detector back from him. David actually found a one gram nugget during his time out prospecting. And he was hooked! David had an absolute ball out prospecting and swore that he would bring his family back to the Creswick area to introduce them to gold prospecting. A marquee was set up at St Georges Lake which was a lovely place on an extremely hot day. Both Ministers went out with detectors. Louise was ably assisted by Don Brereton and David was assisted by Darren Kamp and David Bentley. Ollie Oleszek ran his highbanker in the lake to demonstrate the lack of environmental damage caused. It was a very worthwhile day and the Ministers both left having firsthand experience of prospecting for gold. Goldfields Central Prospecting Branch T he next meeting will be held on Wednesday 17th February at the Maryborough Highland Society, 35 High St, Maryborough at 6.00pm for a meal and 7.00pm for the meeting. All Welcome

NEW WESTERN AUSTRALIAN MINING LAWS Changes are afoot to the Western Australian Mining Laws which are currently in front of Parliament. The Mining Legislation Amendment Bill 2015 will introduce the biggest changes in the mining Act since 1978 and has already been debated in the Lower House of Parliament. The changes include the following: For the very first time a Plan of Work application will cost $590.00. If your POW is rejected you will have to reapply and pay another $590.00 fee. A Mining Proposal will be required for every Mining Lease application and will attract a $6950.00 fee. New environmental legislation is to be inserted into the Mining Act which will have considerable impact on exploration practice, accountability, reporting and compliance. Increased investigative powers including inspectors being able to enter a mining operation, take samples (gold) and records. Extreme increases in costs for the small miner Prospectors and small miners inject a much needed $50 million annually into regional Western Australia that helps sustain small business and community services.

P AGE 3 G EELONG C ARAVAN, C AMPING & O UTDOO R E XPO At Geelong Caravan, Camping & Outdoor Expo Gold & Relics set up a stall at the Geelong Caravan, Camping & Outdoor Expo recently. We set up a good display of replica gold nuggets by Dean Smith and relics that we had found over many years. The weather was looking jittery on the Thursday the first day of the show. By Friday, we were washed out. Luckily the bad weather abated and the weekend was just lovely and the crowds were out in droves. A lot of prospectors dropped by to see us so it was really great to have a chat and catch up. There were a lot of caravans and camper trailers on display. These expos are the place to go if you are in the market for The crowds at the Geelong Caravan, Camping & Outdoor Expo a new caravan. Apparently, the average person attends 3 shows before buying a caravan. And with the range available, we can understand why. Also on display were electric bikes, Isuzu 4 wheel drive ramp and the travelling fishing show. Leanne and Darren both went on the Isuzu 4 wheel drive ramp. I admit to shutting my eyes on the way down. But I didn t embarrass myself and scream! Leanne laughs I m a bit of a sook when it comes to things like that. I m not fond of heights. PMAV AUSTRALIA DAY MARCH Andrew Bales (right) with a Channel 10 TV reporter. Darren with Dean Smith, Environmental Creations. The Australia Day Peoples March in Melbourne was, once again, a really fun day. After about 40 PMAV marchers marched the march a day of goldpanning and prospecting for coins was put on for Melbourne. The day was magnificent and there was so much entertainment including a flying display by the Royal Australian Airforce Roulettes which was mind blowing. They use only hand eye coordination to fly at speeds of up to 590 kilometres per hour. Channel 10 TV reporter hamming it up with a snake on his back at the PMAV site. Goldpanning was popular at the PMAV site at Domain Gardens. The day was well attended with over 60 PMAV members helping out on the day. Three marquees were set up for the use of the PMAV to educate the public about prospecting related matters. A competition was run for the best selfie for kids who had found treasure that day either by panning or detecting. The lucky winner was Alex from Melbourne. Alex wins a half day family gold prospecting adventure donated by Gold & Relics Gold Prospecting Adventures.
