Meeting closed at 4.15pm Please send any agenda items to nqpotters@gmail.com prior to meeting. Vale Wendy Allen 12 July 1946 23 December 2016 Wendy was born in Winnipeg, Canada and came to Australia in the 70 s. She came to live in Townsville in the mid 80 s and as her two children grew up she became involved in NQPA. For over 20 years Wendy was a regular at the studio at Flowers Street. During that time she produced all kinds of pots and always took part in workshops, looking after us all, continually providing food for everyone, as well as her famous prawn platters which impressed workshop tutors from out of town. Always thoughtful and caring of others, she kept the studio clean and replenished supplies which she only stopped doing a few years ago. She was also our Librarian for several years. Not one for mincing her words, Wendy was a constant at the studio for many years and will be missed. Wendy s family held a memorial for her at PBSLC at the end of January which some of us attended. As Wendy had become part of Fiona & Trevor s family they were very involved in the memorial which was a nice gathering to farewell a colleague and friend. She will be deeply missed by her kids, Gordon and Michelle, and especially her grandkids, Archie, Clementine and Banjo whom she loved deeply and cared for. CAR PARKING In case you re unaware, where we park under the Tamarind trees is also a driveway for the house next door. Apparently members have been blocking this driveway PLEASE KEEP IT CLEAR AT ALL TIMES. Please note when you use Flowers St and pay hire fees or buy clay it is necessary to have the correct change as we do not always have much available. This is especially for people who use the studio out of hours 3

2018 biennial North Queensland Ceramic Awards The 2018 biennial North Queensland Ceramic Awards are going ahead and will be exhibited at Pinnacles Gallery 27 July to 16 September 2018. The first ad will be in the next issue of JAC. Once again the major TCC acquisitive award will be $10,000 with 4 other smaller awards. Entries will close Friday 30 March 2018 - so a heads up to start working on an entry now. Greg Daly is the confirmed judge and he will be running a workshop on Sat 28 July and Sun 29 July 2018 at NQPA. We re interested in any ideas you may have of topics you might like him to cover let us know please. A couple of ideas at the moment are 1 day glaze on glaze, application, brushwork and 1 day on lustre and techniques.... Sian Rowe s work is currently in the display case at the studio. Well done Sian! Lovely work. 4

NQPA Tuesday Social Pottery Group The Tuesday group, with Nic and friends, welcomes all to share. This is an informal group which meets from 10am to 1pm every Tuesday at the NQPA studio. There is only the $5 charge for members to use the premises and we all help each other. No tutors, but everyone helps everyone and it is just a time to come along and enjoy yourself. PLEASE NOTE THE STUDIO IS CLOSED IN THE EVENT OF CYCLONE OR STORM WARNING WHEN PUBLIC BUILDINGS ARE CLOSED. NO STUDIO ACCESS OR KILN FIRING DURING SUCH EVENTS. Everyone please sign in the DIARY when you are in the NQPA studio! This is essential for both NQPA insurance and your insurance coverage. Please sign your name in the diary to indicate that you are on the premises; it is extremely important for Workplace Health & Safety in the case of a fire to have a record of attendance.
