Hacienda los Gauchos Ranch connects the Rincon de la Vieja National Park to the West and the rest of the property is surrounded by private property. The scenery on the drive to and from the ranch is breathtaking passing through an active volcano area with thermo-electric generation, well kept small ranching towns, multiple mountain streams, and the most important dairy farming area of Costa Rica. There are abundant water resources on the ranch including 7 natural springs and creeks that flow into the Cano Negro River. There are two small dams built on the property to provide gravity flow to multiple cattle water tanks throughout the property. Solar power is used for electric fencing throughout this operating ranch. This ranch makes money annually from a well-managed 250 head feeder steer/bull fattening operation supported on the improved grass covering the ranch. By renting neighboring ranch land, the capacity is easily increased to 350-400 head. Running 250 head on 500 acres is only possible in the tropics (2 in. to 8 in. per month rainfall) with good rotation of cattle on improved pasture with grasses like Toledo and Mombaza (from Brazil). The ranch has standard barbed wire and electric fences throughout for rotation of feeder cattle amongst 4 acre paddocks (groups of 30 head rotate). The ranch can be run with a ranch foreman, 2 to 3 ranch hands, and 6 mules.

There is good access to an improved, graveled public road with infrastructure including worker s quarters, covered corrals, and sheds. Transportation around the ranch is facilitated (besides sure-footed mules) with UTV s in a proposed improved trailmaking project through out the ranch to provide quick access to scenic viewpoints on different hilltops, strategic fishing holes along the river, trips through tropical rainforest on the ranch and easier access to the waterfall. A proposed fishing lodge in a Bavarian design style is proposed (see rendering) for one of the prominent hilltops with views of a lush agricultural valley below with rice and pineapples as well as spectacular views of Lake Nicaragua, 15 miles to the north, the largest fresh water lake in Central America and home of the coming Panama Canal 2 crossing the country of Nicaragua from the Caribbean to the Pacific Ocean.
