President s Message April 2018 Our March meeting was held at DiDomenico Hotrods, 11 Alcap Ridge, Cromwell, CT 06416 where they build customized hot rods, perform restorations, metal fabrication, custom paint and more. Our host was Jeff DiDomemico who showed us many aspects of their business from building complete frames for hot rods to complete custom builds and everything in between. Attendance was excellent with members from CCR, Valley Collector Car Club and the Model A Restorers Club participating. Many thanks to CCR vice president John Bieback for setting this up. John is also setting up the Maple Syrup Breakfast tour to the Maple Corner Farm, 749 Beech Hill Rd., Granville, MA 01034 on April 7, rain date April 8 th. This is a driving event and all are invited to participate. You are encouraged Travis Cook, President to drive your old car but your modern hot rod or even your daily driver are welcome. Just come out and enjoy the day with us. And of course, bring the whole family, grandkids, friends, neighbors and anyone else that would be interested. See the flyer in this issue for all the details including the meeting places and times. And, of course, anyone living closer to Granville is welcome to meet us at Maple Corner Farm around noon if the meeting places are not convenient. The Covenant Village Car Show will be held on May 19 th in Cromwell in memory of CCR member Pete Alison. This was Pete s show for many years and his family continues it in his memory. It is a great show and more details are in the calendar. With car show season quickly approaching, it has become apparent that we will not have a car show this year. This is mostly due to a general lack of interest by our membership. We have repeatedly asked for someone to step up as car show chairman and for people to join committees to help in producing the show. I am extremely dissapointed that we have had virtually no interest from our members. There is plenty to do and the task of presenting a great show is much easier if we have more people involved. While time is running out this year, hopefully we can do better next year. We still have 2 openings on the Board of Directors. We would like to have some new members with new ideas join the board and help guide the club into the future. We also need to fill the position of club historian. Our annual Spring Banquet will be on Sunday May 6 th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Dakota s in Rocky Hill. The details are still being finalized and you will receive a special notice shortly to confirm your attendance and menu choices. Time will be short so please don t procrastinate in replying. CCR member John Gasper has graciously offered his restoration shop at the Manchester Armory for automotive related demonstrations for our club. Let me know if you want to show something other members might be interested in. Also, let me know if you have a suggestion for a meeting place. Next Meeting: Maple Syrup Tour to Maple Corner Farm 749 Beech Hill Road Granville, MA 01034 Saturday April 7, 2018 See flyer for meeting times and places! Until next time safe motoring! Central Connecticut Region AACA Board of Directors Meeting March 6, 2018, 7:00 PM Fox Laminating, West Hartford Secretary s report - Minutes from February BOD read and accepted. Treasurer s report - was read and accepted. The following members attended the March meeting: Travis Cook, Fred Glabau, Nick Nesci, Ray Lichota, Bob Hand, John Bieback, George Scheyd, Jack Gasper Old Business Considerable discussion revolved around the 2018 CCR car show and whether or not we are able to have one this year. The concerns are that we need members to step up to help produce the show and someone to assume the role of Show Chairman. Other discussion concerned the location of the show, specifically whether to remain at the Elks Club or move back to a location closer to Glastonbury Blvd. where the show was prior to 2016. The Ad Book as a source of revenue was discussed. No concrete decisions were made and the general feeling was that we probably would not have a show this year. It is definitely too late for a June show and there were concerns about getting good attendance in September due to many other car shows, country fairs, and school activities people are involved in. New Business Ideas were discussed for club events or activities to attract new members. Jack Gasper offered his son John s business at the Manchester Armory as a place we could hold various automotive related demonstrations for the benefit of our members. Members to demonstrate things like welding, painting, restoration of certain parts, tune ups or anything else that may be of interest are welcome to submit ideas to the Board. Travis Cook and John Bieback will work together to reserve a location for the Spring Banquet, probably in May. The website for the CT Seaport Car Club was suggested as an excellent source for car shows and cruise nights. This can be found at www.ctseaportcarclub.com. Our CCR show has been advertised here in past years. Meeting adjourned at 8:15 p.m. Bob Hand, filling in for Paul Bosco Al's Trivia April 2018 (answers on page 5) 1.
