DAY 3 (13 Dec, Wed) COLONIAL QUITO and MIDDLE of the EARTH PRIVATE TOUR (B, L, D) Quito, UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, is a multicolored urban quilt draped across the steep slopes and undulating inter-andean valleys at the foot of Pichincha Volcano. Strolling the narrow cobblestone streets of Quito s old-town is like walking through time and back again amidst splendid 16th century architecture, churches bathed in gold, convents tucked away behind hand carved baroque doors and block upon block of Spanish-style villas with their charming hidden courtyards. The Middle of the World complex and the Equator Monument situated at 00 0 latitude where the 18th century French Geodesic Expedition built one of the three pyramids as landmarks for their planet calculations to deduct the shape of the earth. Afternoon at leisure. DAY 4 (14 Dec, Thu) QUITO / GALAPAGOS ISLANDS (4 Nights) (B, L, D) Depart from Quito to Baltra via Guyaquil (2½ hours flight). Departure from Quito or Guayaquil to Baltra Island (2 1/2-hour flight). Arriving in the Galapagos, passengers are picked up at the airport by our natural guides and taken to a ten-minute bus drive to the pier to board the M/V Galapagos Legend. 5D4N sailing (4nights on board). PM Mosquera Islet In the afternoon, travel to Mosquera Islet, located between North Seymour and Baltra Island. This colony is home to a large colony of sea lions, herons and lava gulls. With no exiting trail, guests can enjoy strolling in the wide open spaces. DAY 5 (15 Dec, Fri) GALAPAGOS ISLANDS (B, L, D) AM Egas Port In the morning, a wet landing on Egas Port on Santiago Island to view the black volcanic sand beach and its variety of animals. During your time here, you will be able to spot yellow-crowned herons, lobster, starfish and other marine wildlife. PM Rabida Island In the afternoon, a wet landing on the dark red-sand beaches of Rabida. Considered the epicenter of the Galapagos, the island features incredible landscapes. Look for Brown Pelicans and other sea birds. Snorkel off the coast in this area that is known for particularly active marine life. DAY 6 (16 Dec, Sat) GALAPAGOS ISLANDS (B, L, D) AM Urbina Bay In the morning, a wet landing on the black sand beach of Urbina Bay on Isabela Island, the largest island in the chain. Here you will have a chance to find giant tortoises and land iguanas. Snorkel with the chance to swin with turtles, sea lions and a wide array of fish. PM Tagus Cove In the afternoon, a dry landing in Tagus Cove to learn about the eruption of the five volcanoes that formed the island. Then a dinghy ride along the coastline to look for a variety of seabirds and Galapagos penguins of which there are more than 2,000 on the island. Finally snorkeling in the deep waters of the cove.
DAY 7 (17 Dec, Sun) GALAPAGOS ISLANDS (B, L, D) AM Espinosa Point In the morning, a dry landing at Espinosa Point on Fernandina Island. Search for the largest and most primitive looking marine iguanas and view the Pa-hoe-hoe and AA lava formations. PM Vicente Roca Point In the afternoon, go snorkeling in the deep waters of Vincente Roca Point to enjoy some of the richest marine havens on the planet. Take a dinghy ride along the coast to view the great diversity of coastal and sea birds. DAY 8 (18 Dec, Mon) GALAPAGOS ISLANDS / QUITO (1 Night) (B, D) AM Santa Cruz In the morning, a dry landing on Santa Cruz Island and 45min bus ride to Puerto Avora to visit the natural reserve for giant tortoises. These giant creatures can weigh up to 600 pounds and will live up to 150-200 years. In the afteroon, you are transferred to Baltra Airport for return flight to Quito. On arrival, transfer to hotel. Free at leisure. DAY 9 (19 Dec, Tue) QUITO / BOGOTA, COLOMBIA (1 Night) (B, L, D) Avianca 8374 Quito Bogota 0910 1050 Early transfer to Quito Airport for flight to Bogota, capital of Colombia. On arrival, start Bogota city tour with a panoramic view of the historic and cultural center of the city, also known as La Candelaria, with its narrow and steep streets, houses with roofs and Colonial architecture. Visit Plaza Bolivar, surrounded by some of the most important constructions of the city: The Cathedral Primada de Colombia, The House of the Ecclesiastical Cabildo, it is considered the oldest building in the framework of the Plaza de Bolivar; The Capilla del Sagrario, built to house the Blessed Sacrament; The Archbishop's Palace, The National Capitol, The Liévano Palace, headquarters of the mayoralty of Bogota and El Palacio de Justicia. We visit the Gold Museum where we will appreciate the largest pre-hispanic gold and silver collection in the world, with approximately 34,000 pieces of gold and tumbaga (gold and copper alloy), about twenty-five thousand objects in ceramics, stone, shell, bone and textiles. The beautiful Cathedral carved completely in salt is unique in its type and presents its visitors with an unparalleled majesty. 180m underground is a place far from everyday life that invites reflection, self-discovery and internal encounter with the spiritual part. We will pass to the restaurant Funzipa where we will have a typical lunch. One of the most beautiful colonial villas in the country, founded in 1572. During the Cretaceous this territory was occupied by a primitive sea that, with the accommodation and tectonic development of the planet, was retired giving rise to the creation of lakes and valleys that finally were molded with the growth and emergence of the massif known as the Andes. With cobbled floor, surrounded by magnificent colonial buildings with a small mudéjar fountain in the center. We will also visit "El Infiernito" or Parque de los Indigenas Muiscas. DAY 12 (22 Dec, Fri) CARTAGENA (B, L, D) Cartagena Historic City Tour, starting with a panoramic tour of the modern residential and tourist area of Bocagrande, Castillogrande and the traditional neighborhood of Manga built in the early days of the 20th century. Proceed to the Monastery and Church of La Popa, a cloister built in 1606, from which you can see a beautiful view of the city. This Monastery stands on the summit of the only promontory that dominates the whole urban area and was formerly called "La Popa del Galeón", due to the striking similarity of the profile of the hill with La Popa of a ship. Then visit the Castle of San Felipe de Barajas, a great fortress that was built for 200 years on the hill San Lázaro, in order to defend the City from any attack by land of the enemies of the Spanish Crown. There will be a stop for shopping for handicrafts in the Bovedas and we will have the opportunity to appreciate the historical center. Afternoon is at leisure to rest or further explore Cartagena on own. We finish this beautiful tour through the streets of this city and we go back to the Hotel to check out. At 1.00pm, transfer to the airport for flight to Medellin (AV9763 at 5:17pm). Art Hotel Medellin 4* or similar DAY 14 (24 Dec, Sun) MEDELLIN (B, L, D) Our tour starts in the West of Medellín when you find the San Cristóbal corregimiento and the entrance to one of the most important engineering works of the last century "El Túnel de Occidente", 4.6 kilometers long. When you leave the tunnel, the landscape will surprise you... great green mountains and at the end the river Cauca welcomes the West Antioquia. The first municipality on the route is San Jerónimo, where you have the opportunity to enjoy the taste and variety of exotic fruits such as: Tamarindo, Guanábana, Corozo and more. The tour continues to Santa Fe de Antioquia. The colonial architecture, its cobbled streets, its Colonial gates, its balconies and its beautiful churches, return to ancient times and lead congress to declare Santa Fe a National Monument. The churches, built between the 17th and 18th centuries, among which stand out The Metropolitan Cathedral located in the main park, designed in a Renaissance style in ancient times was a prison for priests. DAY 15 (25 Dec, Mon) MEDELLIN / PANAMA CITY, PANAMA (3 nights) (B, L, D) Christmas Day!!! After breakfast, transfer to airport for flight to Panama City (CM612 2:55pm). Upon arrival in Panama City, transfer to hotel. DAY 16 (26 Dec, Tue) PANAMA CITY (B, L, D) Visit the "Embera Quera Indigenous Community, a tourist community established since January 2007 on the shores of Lake Gatún. It`s a Emberá village integrated by people who arrived from Darién and other communities of the Eastern; Sector of the Panama Canal Watershed. In the community you will have lunch with fish, rice with coconut and Patacones served locally on a banana leaf and cooked in their own way. From the community you take a boat and go to the nearby island called "ISLAND OF MONKEYS ". From the boat you can observe the spider monkeys in their habitat. You can`t disembark on the island but you can be close enough to take some good photos and observe their totally wild behavior. At the end of our experience, return to Panama City and enjoy dinner the Restaurant "DIABLICOS"; typical Panamanian food and enjoy a dance and Folkloric show.
DAY 17 (27 Dec, Wed) PANAMA CITY (B, L, D) Visit the fabulous "CANAL DE PANAMA". Arriving we get a projection room where you can see short films on how they built the canal, where the idea comes from the beginning, how the locks work, etc. At the end, enter the Museum, observing photos and findings of the moment when they were constructing this colossus. At the end of this tour we continue to "CASCO VIEJO". In 1997, the Old Quarter of Panama is included in the list of World Heritage sites of UNESCO. The old town has four main squares: La Plaza de la Independencia, the first and only square for several centuries; La Plaza Bolivar and La Plaza Herrera, built on vacant lots that remained of the fires that ravaged the city; and the Plaza de Francia, built in 1922 to honor the French people, pioneers in the construction of the Panama Canal. We will pass through the Main Square where there is a crafts market. At the end of this walk we head to Amador where the Duty Free Zone for shopping. DAY 18 (28 Dec, Thu) DEPART PANAMA CITY / AMSTERDAM (B, L) KL758 Panama CIty Amsterdam 1850 1055+1day Early check out and proceed to the Panama Canal Railway station which will take you on an one hour ride alongside the Canal to the City of Colon. The Panama Railroad is one of the great train journeys in the world. Coupled with its colorful history, the railroad follows a picturesque route through the Isthmus of Panama. The road runs along the Panama Canal passing through a lush tropical jungle, passing along the canal locks, through the historic Culebra (Snake) Cut and crossing narrow roads on Gatun Lake. It connects one of the beautiful tourist corridors between the City of Colon on the Atlantic Coast and Panama City on the Pacific Coast. When you arrive Colon train station, we will take the road to "FUERTE DE SAN LORENZO" located at the entrance of the Chagres River. It was declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1980 under the name of the Fortifications of the Caribbean coast of Panama. Together with the fortresses of the city of Portobelo, they formed the defensive system for The transatlantic trade of the Crown of Spain and constitute a magnificent example of the military Architecture of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries You will also visit the new locks of Agua Clara (third set of locks) corresponding to the expansion of the Canal that went into service in June 2016. Enjoy lunch at the historic "HOTEL MELIA COLON" which is surrounded by nature in all splendors, before transferring to Panama City airport for flight home.
