The club has just been notified that it was successful in getting a $38000 infrastructure grant from the Cairns Regional Council towards a glaze room extension. The Management Committee wishes you all a Great New Year and happy potting. Glass Division Report Page 4 At the last Management Committee meeting Deb Clarke told us that due to other commitments, she will not take up the position of Glass Officer after the AGM in March 2015. Thank you Deb Clarke for all the efforts you have made to get the glass section going organising workshops, looking after the glass, tools and also the kilns. If anyone would be interested in taking over her position, please let us know, as I am sure Deb would be happy to explain what it involves. Report on Club activities CREATIVE CRAWL FRIDAY 5 DECEMBER & CHRISTMAS FAIR SATURDAY 6 DECEMBER 2014 On Friday 5 December, Cairns very own arty open top, double-decker bus arrived with 80 participants and organisers around 5pm. Club members had already started at 3pm to decorate the clubhouse for Christmas and set out tables with pottery for sales to the group. A sausage sizzle and plenty of cold drinks and wine were also offered for sale to our guests. Many of the participants had never visited the club before, so it was a great opportunity to show them all our club facilities and let them know about our Christmas Fair the next day. The Christmas Fair was a great success total sales of artworks were approx $ 5000. During the day there were a steady stream of people dropping in. Thanks to all the artists who participated and everybody who gave us a hand both on Friday afternoon and Saturday during the Fair. Page 6

. SUSAN REYS I am a ceramist.. Seeking an outlet to sell my pottery I am a skilled potter of the wheel and hand building techniques. I was born in Cairns. My family has lived in Cairns 5 generations. Both my great grandparents were removed from their Country (traditional land) to be taken to Yarrabah Mission. I am a descendant of the Badjala people of Fraser Island and Darraba people of Cape York. My Aboriginal name is Dulin which means Owl. I have pursued a long life passion of art and design throughout my years. In 2003-2006 I taught Indigenous art and design at Kangan Batman Institute of TAFE, Victoria. Whilst relocating to Perth to continue a career in Indigenous education for a further seven years as an Associate Lecturer of Indigenous Community Management I discovered the pleasure and healing properties of clay work. My ceramic ware provides a canvas to illustrate themes related to my knowledge and exploration of my Aboriginality Identity; History; and living culture. Within the last five years I am enjoying the medium of clay for its many healing qualities. I use the pottery wheel as well as hand building techniques. My designs are original and come intuitively mostly depict dreamtime stories including 3 sister story; water elements and healing leaves in ceremony. My greatest delight comes from watching others connect to my creations through sense of touch and when my creations draws the view into connecting to sense of place and journey in life. I like to think that my pieces arouse a consciousness of own health and wellbeing.
