We had a good turnout of participants and folks coming to watch the show. Thank you to everyone that came and helped out, participated, or watched! It made for a nice fun filled day! The first ride of the season is set for May 22, in Newport. This is a nice and easy ride for starting off the season, and I for one am looking forward to attending! Information for this ride is in the Ride Information section of this newsletter. We are running a food booth at Safe Haven Farm on May 14. For the open farm days, Safe Haven is putting on demonstrations of equine disciplines throughout the day, starting at 10AM. The have had some really neat demonstrations in the past, everything from jumping and barrel racing, to knights in armor and gun slinging mounted shooters. I don t know what they have in store for us this year, but it will be guaranteed to be fun and entertaining! I hope you can make it to this fun event to visit our food booth and to spend time watching some entertaining and educational equine demonstrations. On May 14 we will have our monthly membership meeting. As in the past two meetings, we will be open to suggestions from the floor on ways to make trail rides fun and how we can make our club strong and fun. See you there! Trudy.
2 May 2016 HOOFBEATS Our Next Meeting: May 14, 2016 Notice to Members Safe Haven Farm, Durham, ME MTRA Food Booth 10AM-2PM Ride Information Contact the trail secretary, Cathy Small, to sponsor a ride: Email: Cathy@MaineTrailRiders.com Phone: 207-582-2093 May ride information May 22 Newport RR Bed Ride sponsored by Marianne Cogswell: The ride out time is 10a.m. This railroad bed is an easy trail to ride, the footing is good. This will be a nice ride for getting our horses back in shape for the riding season. Pack a lunch, or at the end lunch spot is Barb s Village Square Restaurant (eat in or take out). You can call ahead to have your lunch ready (207-278-2799) and check what s on their menu. Lunch spot has no tie ups available. They have made a park like setting. There are a lot of large flat rocks to sit on while you hold your horse and have lunch. There a few benches (no tables). The flat rocks also are handy to use to mount up on your horse. This is not a good ride for dogs because the RR bed trail comes close to a number of home backyards, and the lunch spot has a major/busy road close too. Directions: From the south, take I-95 north to exit 157. Take Left off the ramp and Left onto route 11. Go straight thru the traffic light. Parking is on the left about a ½ mile after the Sebasticook Federal Credit Union. This is about 45 minutes of traveling time from Augusta. This is a new parking area called the Moosehead Trail RR bed parking. Park your trailers close, since ATV and boat users also use share this area. GPS info: Newport Maine, 87 Moosehead Trail (this will bring you to the credit union bend), parking lot is on the left just after. Come one, come all, Happy Horse-N!!
