First Steps to Becoming a Pilot Pilot Training Seminar Why not attend one of the Academy's many pilot training seminars. These are held on a monthly basis throughout the country and details on where and when they take place can be found on our website or contact us on tel: +353 21 4888737. Training Advisors Make an appointment to talk with one of our expert Training Advisors. They are trained to answer all your questions regarding training, finance and career prospects. This service is free. Visit The Academy A visit to a prospective Academy is an absolute must. See the training facilities, buildings, fleet and talk to the instructors. Which Medical, Class 1 or 2? A Class 1 medical is a must if you want to become a professional pilot and fly for a career. This medical can only be taken at the Aeromedical Centre in the Mater Hospital, Dublin (tel: +353 1 8858615). It is best to complete this medical before any training begins. A Class 2 medical is normally sufficient if you only intend to do a Private Pilots Licence and have no intention of becoming a professional pilot. This medical can be completed by a specially appointed Aeromedical Examiner (AME) and details of an AME in your area can be had from the Mater Hospital. Remember you must have a medical to apply for a Students Pilots Licence (SPL). Which Course, Integrated or Modular? The Integrated Course is a highly structured and focused course where a student goes from zero flying experience to completion (Frozen ATPL) in just 14 months. To be eligible for this course the candidate must first pass an assessment to ensure that he/she is capable of completing in such a short period of time. Then he/she must be able to commit to training every day, 5 days per week, and adhere to a strict training regime. This course is not always suitable for everyone. The Modular Course is designed for individuals who do not wish to undertake a full time course of study or who wish to "stagger" their training. The course can be completed in seven modules over a period of time which is more suited to the trainee. People who have other commitments and cannot train 5 days every week find this method ideal. Quality Training Producing Quality Pilots Training Ordinary People To Be Extraordinary Pilots 02

Private Pilots Licence Requirements An applicant for the PPL must be at least 16 years old to hold a Students Pilots Licence (SPL) and 17 years old to hold a Private Pilots Licence (PPL). The applicant must also hold a Class 2 Medical, this can be arranged by contacting the Aero-Medical Department at the Mater Hospital, Dublin who will give details of an Aero-Medical Examiner in the area. The Course The aim of the PPL course is to teach the student to fly safely and efficiently under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The privileges of the holder of a PPL is to act as Pilot In Command (PIC) or Co-Pilot of any plane engaged in non revenue flights. The course is a minimum of 45 hours flight training comprising: 35 hours with an instructor (dual) 10 hours supervised solo flight time (PIC) Pre flight and post flight briefings Ground school covering 10 subjects and culminating in 4 written exams set by the Irish Aviation Authority. All training will be conducted in our modern, fully equipped fleet of Cessna 172's and International Airport. completed at Cork When the training is completed the student will undergo a flight test with an Irish Aviation Authority flight examiner. 03 Atlantic Flight Training Academy

Night Rating Following the PPL a person may decide to add a night rating to his/her licence. This will allow the person to obtain the flight skills necessary to fly an aircraft after the end of VFR or in other words, night time. The Course The course comprises the following: 5 hours flight training (dual and solo) 3 hours ground school training Hour Building Following the PPL a person may decide to continue his/her training and become a Commercial Pilot. One of the requirements when doing this is to have a minimum of 100 hours Pilot In Command (PIC) of an aircraft before commencing with the Training for the Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL). The Academy has tailored an hour building programme which allows the person to fly primarily for leisure purposes but with regular instructor checks to maintain the high standard of flying. A person may choose to complete the hour building in one of our Cessna 172 four seater aircraft or Grob 115 two seater aircraft or indeed a combination of both. Training Ordinary People To Be Extraordinary Pilots 04

ATPL Airline Transport Pilots Licence Requirements An applicant requiring to undertake the Airline Transport Pilots Licence Theory course and exams must hold a valid PPL. The Course The ATPL'S are a set of 14 subjects and exams which are required for the issue of an Airline Transport Pilots Licence. The course is conducted over a 6 month duration at the Academy and candidates may participate as either full time or part time (distance learning) students. Classes are held from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, every week comprising lectures and one to one tuition with each individual being assigned a computer terminal, complete with username and password, for online study and also a study pack. The course is split in three bi-monthly modules culminating in a set of exams at the end of each module. All exams are taken at the Atlantic Flight Training Academy, Cork International Airport, and are multi choice. Course Outline First Module (8 weeks) 1 HPL 2 Air Law 3 Ops Procedures 4 Meteorology 5 V Coms 6 I Coms Exams Second Module (8 weeks) 1 Mass & Balance 2 Performance 3 General Navigation 4 Planning 5 Principals Of Flight Exams Third Module (8 weeks) 1 Aircraft General Knowledge 2 Instrumentation 3 Radio Navigation Exams All examinations are set by the Irish Aviation Authority. 05 Atlantic Flight Training Academy

Multi-Engine Class Rating Requirements Applicants wishing to train for and obtain a Multi Engine Class Rating (MEP) must hold, at least, a PPL and have flown a minimum of 70 hours pilot in command (PIC). The Course This rating allows a person to transition from single engine aircraft to twin engine aircraft which can be quite challenging but very rewarding. Learning to fly a twin engine aircraft under visual flight rules (VFR) is also officially the beginning of the commercial training and allows a person a certain insight into airline and multi crew conditions. At the Atlantic Flight Training Academy the Multi Engine Rating is conducted on a Piper Seneca PA34 and FNPT 11. The normal duration of this course is one week comprising flight training and ground school training as follows : 6 hours of flight training, covering normal operations and asymmetric operations. 6 hours ground school training culminating in a class rating exam. Although there is a flight test for this rating, it is normally done in conjunction with the Commercial Licence flight test. Training Ordinary People To Be Extraordinary Pilots 06

Commercial Pilots Licence Requirements An applicant who wishes to commence training for the Commercial Pilots licence (CPL) at the Academy shall be 18 years old and hold the following, PPL licence Class 1 Medical Certificate A pass in all ATPL or CPL theoretical exams 175 hours flying experience of which 100 hours are pilot in command (PIC). The Course The Commercial Pilots Licence will allow a person to have a flying career in aviation.it will enable them to act as a pilot in multi engine and multi pilot aircraft for airline commercial transport. The course comprises 25 hours flight training and a minimum of 20 hours ground school training. The flight training is conducted on a single engine Cessna 172, a Piper Twin PA34 and an FNPT 11 simulator and is divided into two modules of which one corresponds to the visual (VFR) CPL training and the other to the instrument (IFR) CPL training. The 25 hours are flown as follows: 5 hours on FNPT 11 12 hours on C172 8 hours on PA 34 When the training is completed, a flight test is then conducted on a complex multi engine aircraft (PA 34). 07 Atlantic Flight Training Academy

Multi-Engine Instrument Rating Requirements An applicant who wishes to commence the following, training for the Multi Engine Instrument Rating (MEIR) shall hold PPL or CPL licence Class 1 Medical A pass in the appropriate ATPL or CPL theoretical exams The Course This is the final stage in the CPL modular course and teaches the student to fly the aircraft with sole reference to instruments (IFR) or in other words with no visual external references (VFR). It is a qualification which entitles the student to fly in the same manner as airline pilots. The course consists of 55 hours of flight training and a minimum of 20 hours of comprehensive ground school training. An applicant who is already the holder of a Commercial Pilots Licence will have this training reduced by 10 hours making it a 45 hour course. The training for the 45 hour course is conducted on an FNPT 11 and a Piper Seneca PA 34 as follows: 30 hours on FNPT 11 15 hours on PA 34 When the training is completed a flight test is then conducted on a complex multi engine aircraft (PA 34).
