Tips for Trips Mikulov Mikulov is a pearl of the south Moravia. The silhouette of majestic Baroque castle, Svatý kopeček (Holly little hill) and Kozí vršek draw the attention to the city from far. Mikulov has always been a popular town as a history of a local castle demonstrates. Originally a Romanic stronghold used to stand here, which was later on adapt for a Renaissance castle. In 1718, a fire disaster destroyed the castle, so everything started all over again and the results you can judge yourselves today. Church of St. Wenceslas 0.3 km from Hotel Galant The church was erected in the place of the former earliest Romanesque church whose existence is assumed since late 12th century. The core of the present building of the church comes from early 15th century. The overall appearance is the result of reconstructions in 16th and mid 17th centuries. The Dietrichstein tomb is a tomb of the Dietrichstein family, located in Mikulov, South Moravia. It is protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The structure was built as a copy of the Holy House of Loreto, and later the Church of St. Anne was added to the chapel. The building contains a courtyard, grave chapel, two aisles with coffins and stairs in the south tower. Its shape was mainly changed by the fundamental reconstruction in the Baroque style after the fire of 1719, when the synagogue acquired its present appearance. The reconstruction was designed by the Dietrichstein architect J. Ch. Oedtl, who also managed reconstruction of the chateau. The last adaptations in 19th century only affected details, mainly the windows. Following a costly and long-term reconstruction the synagogue was made accessible to the public in early 1990s. At present the Regional Museum has installed an exhibition entitled Rabbi Löw and Jewish Education in Moravia. Kozí hrádek is one of the three rocky dominants of the Mikulov skyline. Following the recent landscaping the locality has become a suitable freely accessible recreational centre. Kozí hrádek has always controlled the strategic path connecting Brno and Vienna, thus providing for due protection of the important trading path. On the top of the Kozí Hill a two-storey bombarding tower with a gallery and loopholes was built in 15th century. The tower improved defence of Mikulov, especially the Mikulov castle (today chateau), whose defence system thus became advanced in the Central European context. The late Gothic fortification with its blade has survived until the present days. Kozí hrádek has thus remained an extraordinary civil work included in the core of the town of Mikulov. For the extensive occurrence of rare plant and animal species the territory has been announced nature reserve. The top of Svatý kopeček is dominated with St. Sebastian pilgrimage chapel, a belfry and other sacral objects of the Way of the Cross. Svatý kopeček (363 m above sea level) is part of the Pálava Hills. The cliffs of Jurassic limestone form an oval range with flat tops and steep slopes. On Svatý kopeček there are many protected plant species. That is why in as early as in 1946 the hill was announced botanical reserve and has been a natural reserve since 1992. The original plant species have survived in the steppe society on the top of Svatý kopeček. On the southern slopes you can find the varied species of rocky steppe (low iris, Ivan s feather grass, mountain germander). Unique botanical features of the area include occurrence of several species of parasitic plants. The eastern slopes are covered with bushes dominated with hawthorn. The northern slopes were covered with forest in the past. The steppes are home of thermophillic insects. The most popular vertebrae of Svatý kopeček include eagle owl nesting in the wall of the abandoned quarry.

Valtice are proud to posses an official title the capital city of wine. There are so many vineyards, that together, they would cover eight hundred football stadiums. The only winery college in Czech Republic is situated there. You can take a pleasure in expositions of Saloon of Czech Republic wines and the Castle wine-vault. When men come to Valtice at the right time, they can visit, in addition to tens of private wine cellars, a course of Sommeliers. Those, who lovegrapes in all form, should come when Vintage takes place. You can taste (among others) stum. Viniculture is nothing new around Valtice. As archaeological discoveries of stone instruments demonstrate, even during the Neolithic period people took a liking in these picturesque rich valleys around river Dyje. Celtics and Romans cultivated grapevine there, so later coming Slavs gained delicious luscious grapes almost with any endeavour. The House of Lichtenstein resided in Valtice and less than 10 kilometres far from there their summer-house, the Lednice castle, was built. To call this castle a house is a bit funny, if we consider its size. It is impossible to fit all sightseeing into one day. Together with castles in Lednice and Valtice you should see interiors of Rendez-vous; a romantic building in shape of a Classicist arch and no less beautiful Janův hrad (Johns castle); an artificial romantic ruin of a castle. Břeclav 22 km from Hotel Galant Břeclav is modern city, which will pleasure young couples rather than elderly historians. It is little bit of paradox, because Břeclav is a place of plenteous history. Modern and old meet here. For example, St.Wenceslav church (a contemporary architecture) contras St.Mary parish church (a unique Neo-Gothic construction).
