Braun Managing Owner It was in 1847 one year before the start of emperor Franz Joseph I s reign that the barely 23-year-old Anton Gerstner together with his wife Barbara founded a confectioner s shop on the Stock-im-Eisen square in the middle of Vienna. And it wasn t long before the couple began supplying the nearby imperial court, where everyone was so impressed by the exceptional quality that Gerstner was more and more frequently entrusted with the provision of culinary services for receptions and banquets. A historic moment that also marks the dawn of the first catering in Austria was the provision of culinary services to the Imperial Pavilion at the World Exhibition in Vienna s Prater in 1873. In the same year Gerstner was awarded the official title Purveyor to the Imperial and Royal Court. Ever since, for almost 170 years now, our confectioners and chefs have felt bound to this great tradition without compromise.
