Framework for Recreation in Canada FORUM 2018 May 8-10 Regina, SK Onsite Guide www.gatheringstrength.ca 1

GREETINGS Federal Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities Welcome to Gathering Strength: the Framework for Recreation in Canada Forum 2018. Physical activity brings together people of all backgrounds and abilities and helps create healthier, more dynamic communities. Fostering a more active and inclusive Canada will make for a stronger Canada. Our government is committed to finding ways to make recreation and physical activity even more accessible and welcoming for all Canadians including those who have traditionally been under-represented in sport. This is why we are pleased to be able to count on dedicated people and organizations, like those taking part in this forum, who are working to provide all Canadians with opportunities to enjoy the benefits of recreation and active living. As Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, I would like to thank everyone who helped bring this forum to life. I wish everyone taking part an exciting and productive event. The Honourable Kirsty Duncan Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities Government of Canada CPRA President On behalf of the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA), I am very pleased to welcome all delegates to Gathering Strength: Framework for Recreation in Canada Forum 2018 in Regina, Saskatchewan. CPRA is proud to be a sector leader on the development, launch and now implementation of the Framework for Recreation in Canada. As Co-Chair of the Implementation and Monitoring Working Group, we have worked alongside our provincial and territorial members, government colleagues, sector partners and the academic community on this guiding document for recreation. We envision a Canada in which every citizen is engaged in meaningful, accessible recreation experiences that foster individual, community and environmental wellbeing. The five goals of the Framework support the vision of the Framework: Active Living, Inclusion and Access, Connecting People and Nature, Supportive Environments and Recreation Capacity. We are excited to see Canadians from coast to coast to coast coming together this week to share their experiences, network and to learn how the Framework is being implemented in their regions. We thank organizers Saskatchewan Parks and Recreation Association and the Saskatchewan Government, Ministry of Parks Culture and Sport for all of their efforts in hosting this event. On behalf of the Board of Directors of CPRA Welcome to Regina! Mike Powell President, CPRA 2
