ITINERARY Day 1 Sept. 30 DEPART THE UNITED STATES Depart your hometown and take an overnight flight across the Atlantic. Enjoy in-flight entertainment and meal service as you travel to start your vacation. Day 2 Oct. 1 EDINBURGH ARRIVE & FREE TIME Land at Edinburgh Airport,and complete customs and immigration formalities before meeting your tour guide who will welcome you to Scotland. Transfer to your hotel and check in. Once you settle into your room, the remainder of the morning and much of the afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, join your fellow travelers for a welcome get-together drink at a local tavern. Enjoy a welcome dinner with your group in the hotel restaurant. Day 3 Oct. 2 EDINBURGH HIGHLIGHTS Today we ll take a guided tour of Scotland s capital city. Start your sightseeing by traveling through the heart of the city along Princes Street, famous for its shops on one side and gardens on the other. See the 18th century Old Town with its broad streets, spacious squares, and elegant town houses. Stop at Carrubber s Close to see where Reverend Campbell and his sister were when they stayed at the Henderson s Lodging House. Next, take a guided tour of the imposing Edinburgh Castle, perched high above the city on volcanic rock. Continue on to see the Preston Mills and Phantassie Doocot. The set designers of Outlander went to great lengths to modify the property so it would look like the fictitious, 18th century Lallybroch Estate in Outlander Season 1, Episodes 12 and 13. One of the more memorable scenes filmed here was when Jamie hid underwater as the Redcoats came searching for him. After your visit, return to Edinburgh for a free evening. Preston Mill OVERNIGHT: APEX WATERLOO PLACE HOTEL, EDINBURGH Day 4 Oct. 3 GLASGOW SIGHTSEEING Today we travel west from Edinburgh, Scotland s capital city, to the charming and artistic city of Glasgow. We head to Pollok Country Park, one of many locations that Claire searched for herbs. Next, visit Glasgow Cathedral, which was the location stand-in for the interior shots of L Hopital des Anges. In Outlander Season 2, Episode 7, Claire is brought to L Hopital des Anges when she starts having pain linked to her pregnancy. Return to Edinburgh for free time and dining on your own. Day 5 Oct. 4 BLACKNESS CASTLE Visit the ruins of Midhope Castle, which dates back to the 15th century. Midhope Castle was used as the stand-in for the Lallybroch Estate. Continue on to visit Muiravonside Country Park, where the Battle of Prestonpans scenes were filmed. Next, travel to the village of Blackness to visit Blackness Castle. The 15th century castle was used in Outlander Season 1, Episodes 6 Blackness Castle and 8. Not only was the castle used as a stand-in location for Fort William, it was also the filming location for the heartbreaking scene when Jamie gets whipped by the notorious Black Jack Randall. Then drive to Culross Palace, which doubled as Claire Randall s herb garden. After your visit, drive to Stirling and check into your hotel. You may wish to relax at your hotel before tonight s festivities. In the evening, head to Torphichen Inn to enjoy an Outlanderinspired evening. Enjoy Scottish music, readings of excerpts from the Outlander books, and an Outlander-inspired meal. OVERNIGHT: HIGHLAND HOTEL, STIRLING Midhope Castle Day 6 Oct. 5 DOUNE CASTLE & DEANSTON DISTILLERY After breakfast we travel to Doune and visit Doune Castle, which was first constructed in the 13th century but later had to be rebuilt in the 14th century due to the Scottish Wars of Independence. The castle was a stand-in for Castle Leoch. Next, we head to the impressive Drummond Castle Gardens, to see the location that doubled as the grounds of the glorious Palace of Versailles in Outlander Season 2. Next, we drive to just outside of Perth to view Tibbermore Church. It was here that the witch trial scenes for Outlander Season 1, Episode 11 were filmed. Finally, we motor a short distance to Deanston Distillery to see where the Comte St. Germain stored his wine during Season 2, Episode 1. We then head back to Stirling, where you will have free time to sightsee, shop, and dine independently. OVERNIGHT: HIGHLAND HOTEL, STIRLING Doune Castle
Day 7 Oct. 6 HIGHLAND FOLK MUSEUM Departing Stirling, we drive to Newtonmore and visit the Highland Folk Museum. The museum invites you to enter the World of the Highlander. Here you can see, touch, smell and feel the atmosphere of the old Highlander way. Track how Highland people dealt with their environment, creating ingenious solutions to their everyday problems of providing light, heat, shelter, clothing and food. The museum property also doubled as a MacKenzie village. Continue to Inverness and check into your hotel. Once you settle in, you are free for individual pursuits and dining. Highland Folk Museum OVERNIGHT: JURYS INN, INVERNESS Day 8 - Oct. 7 CULLODEN VISITOR CENTRE & BEAULY PRIORY We ll motor a short distance to Culloden Moor to tour the Visitor Centre. Walk around the battlefield where, on April 16, 1746, British government forces defeated the army of Prince Charles Edward Stuart in just one hour and ended hopes of restoring the Jacobite Stuarts to the British throne. We ll also see the Frasers stone, which is dedicated to all the Frasers who died tragically on that April day. Then as you travel by Loch Garve, where you may wish to keep an eye out for the famed water horse that author, Diana Gabaldon mentions in Outlander, Chapter 18. Next, we head to Beauly and visit the Beauly Priory, which was founded in the 13th century. Ms. Gabaldon made Beauly Priory the final resting place of the Old Fox Lord Lovat Fraser. This is also the location where Claire came across Maisri, Lord Lovat s seer. Finally, we ll head back to Inverness for a free evening. Culloden Moor OVERNIGHT: JURYS INN, INVERNESS
Day 9 Oct. 8 EILEAN DONAN CASTLE Leaving Inverness, we travel past Loch Ness before continuing on to the picturesque Eilean Donan Castle, one of the most iconic images of Scotland. While Jamie and Claire were never at the castle, it emulates the romance and magic that is the Highlands. After your visit, travel the Road to the Isles through some of Scotland s loveliest scenery to the Isle of Skye. Upon arrival at Mallaig, check into your hotel for your overnight stay. In the evening you are free to dine at one of the many restaurants and pubs scattered throughout Mallaig. Isle of Skye OVERNIGHT: WEST HIGHLAND HOTEL, MALLAIG Day 10 Oct. 9 DUNVEGAN CASTLE This morning enjoy a panoramic tour of the Isle of Skye. Stop to visit Dunvegan Castle, which was the stronghold of the Chiefs of MacLeod for nearly 800 years. It is unique in Scotland as the only house of such antiquity to have stayed within its family throughout the centuries. Flora MacDonald, who once lived in Dunvegan is mentioned in Diana s Gabaldon s sixth Outlander book, A Breathe of Snow and Ashes. We return to Mallaig where you may wish to once again sample the local cuisine. Dunvegan Castle OVERNIGHT: HILTON CARLTON HOTEL, EDINBURGH Day 11 - Oct. 10 PITLOCHRY FREE TIME & EDINBURGH Today we travel to Pitlochry, where you will have time on your own. You can shop at one of the many Woollen mills located in this charming town. You may also visit Edradour Distillery, Atholl Country Life Museum, or even Blair Athol Distillery. In the afternoon, we ll travel to your hotel in Edinburgh. After checking in, you are free to sightsee, shop and dine on your own. Pitlochry OVERNIGHT: HILTON CARLTON HOTEL, EDINBURGH
Day 12 Oct. 11 EDINBURGH AT LEISURE Today you are entirely free to explore Edinburgh and you can choose from a wide variety of activities. For example, you may wish to visit the Scottish Storytelling Centre, which is a vibrant arts venue with live Scottish storytelling. You also may wish to visit the John Knox House established in 1470, making it the oldest medieval building in Edinburgh. Then you may wish to visit the Royal Yacht Britannia. While here, you can learn about the history of royal yachts and see exhibits and photographs of Britannia s intriguing history. Finally, you could stop at the Tartan Weaving Mill to see the inside of a working Scottish mill. Before you leave, you can even dress up in ancient Scottish costume and have your photo taken. Tonight, you may wish to dine at one of the many traditional or modern dinner venues scattered throughout the city. Edinburgh OVERNIGHT: HILTON CARLTON HOTEL, EDINBURGH Day 13 Oct. 12 RETURN TO THE UNITED STATES Sadly, today your vacation has come to its final day. Transfer to Edinburgh Airport in good time to check in for your flight. You may do some last-minute shopping at the duty free stores before boarding your aircraft and flying across the Atlantic Ocean back to the United States.
