THE HIGH WIRE ADVENTURE COURSE EXPERIENCE BY ENGLISH Your expert in designing and building reliable, well-integrated and environmentally friendly High Wire Adventure Courses

INTRODUCTION In 1997 I was looking to develop an activity that could reconcile my experience in climbing and mountaineering with my need for adventure and my love of the great outdoors. I therefore founded Altus, one of the pioneer companies in the high wire ropes course field, and opened our first course in the French Alps in July 1997. It was extremely rewarding to see people having such a great time so in 1999, further to multiple requests, my adventure moved on from designing, building and operating our own course to designing and building courses for others. are environmentally friendly and as exciting as possible for the users. My concern for safety, client satisfaction and attention to ongoing development was rewarded, as a decade after building the very first Altus course we had already built over 100 Adventure courses. On the strength of this experience we would be delighted to assist you in making your project become reality. A SUCCESSFUL CONCEPT What is a High Wire Adventure Course? It s an exciting outdoor activity involving a circuit of wooden platforms installed on high elements usually trees and sometimes rocks, poles or posts. A variety of fun bridges and crossings get users from one platform to another and a number of zip lines bring them back to the ground. Who does this activity attract? Tourists, visitors and locals of all ages. It s ideal for corporate events, school outings, birthday parties, bachelor/ bachelorette parties as well as for family outings or just to have a great time with friends. It s open to anybody who can climb a rope ladder. Why is this activity so popular? Because it s fun, challenging, exciting and it's outdoors. You can do the activity with family, friends or colleagues regardless of their different ages. Why choose ALTUS to build my course? Because we have been building high wire adventure courses since 1997. We have built over 10 courses on 4 different continents. We operate our own course in France. We develop and test new, innovative products and materials on our course to remain a step ahead of competitors. Each course is unique as it is tailormade to fit the environment and land available. Furthermore ALTUS provides : A high quality reliable product A profitable business tool First class support from beginning to end Low environmental impact Useful and extensive advice based on our experience as both course constructors and course managers Ongoing maintenance Initial on-site training for operating staff... and because ALTUS is flexible, reliable, efficient and proactive. It s safe and it requires no prior training other than a 10 minute introductory session upon arrival. The course is carried out autonomously under instructor supervision. Why invest in a High Wire Adventure Course? Because it s an exciting business and a long-term investment. It attracts between 10,000 and 4,000 users over a to 7 month period. It s a highly satisfying business tool: users are happy, they have a great time and it provides them with an exhilarating experience. It requires few staff. 4

EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Our experience We have been building High Wire Adventure Courses and operating our own course in France since 1997. This experience has allowed us to evolve and develop new obstacles, techniques and materials to ensure ongoing improvements. All the equipment, materials and obstacles that we recommend have been tried and tested on our own course. Our environmental approach When installing an adventure course we aim to provide you with a course which optimises the forest and natural surroundings. We therefore pay particular attention to the environment and ensure that no pollution or damage is caused when installing an ALTUS course. Furthermore when dismantling or modifying an activity, we guarantee very low environmental impact. Requirements ALTUS courses are tailor-made and adapted to the landscape and terrain available therefore each course is unique. All our courses can be built on natural supports such as trees, cliffs or rocks or on artificial supports such as steel, concrete or wooden poles or on a combination of both natural and artificial supports. The best location is 3 hectares (7. acres) or more of forest or woodland including healthy, straight trees with a minimum 30cm / 12in diameter. The landscape can vary from flat ground to steep mountainous cliffs and the forest can also vary from dense foliage to pine plantations or tropical jungle. Our experience as both course constructors and course managers enables us to give future clients extensive and appropriate advice. Concrete poles Steel poles Our attention to safety Safety is paramount and one of our main concerns. We were therefore involved in establishing the European standard EN 17 which dictates the level required both for constructing and operating ropes courses. All the courses that we build are compliant with both the European standard and the US standard and are inspected by an accredited independent control agency prior to opening to the public. Our on-site training Course participants safety is every course manager s responsibility. We therefore provide 4 days on-site training when delivering an ALTUS Adventure Course to ensure that all operating staff are fully trained to efficiently supervise the participants. COURSE SOME OWNERS CLIENTS' COMMENTS I think the biggest reward I get from Forest Adventure is to see young children pulling all their mighty courage together and complete the course. Some really struggle at first and eventually pull it through with the largest grins on their face! Singapore is an urban city where academic success plays a very large part of children development. There isn t really an avenue nor a culture to expose kids to anything remotely adventurous, let alone risky. I think Forest Adventure in Singapore is helping to change this, with an increasing number of parents and young adults realising that many life skills are better learned outside 4 walls!..." Stéphanie Besse, Singapore www.forestadventure.com.sg I am especially satisfied that the courses suit family groups so well." Tim Davis, Norway www.trollaktiv.no For me setting up and running an adventure course business has been life transforming. It has allowed me to exit the rat race of the corporate world, take control of my life and destiny, and do something that I feel is fundamentally worthwhile with my life...'creating adventures and encouraging everyone to live life adventurously'. It has enabled me to work with a really great bunch of people, our French friends and colleagues from Altus, and an inspirational bunch of properly motivated, talented and outdoors loving people who are like a second family. Go Ape doesn t seem like work. It is an adventure in itself and I still pinch myself that I get paid to do it." Tristram Mayhew Founder of Go Ape - The world's largest high wire adventure course operator www.goape.co.uk Laughter, excitement, trepidation, achievement...if an Adventure Course participant isn't experiencing all or some of these emotions, then it isn't a true Go Ape Adventure Course. After feeling most of these emotions on our first visit to a Go Ape Adventure Course, my wife and I knew that we wanted to be associated with this business. While our work can be challenging at times, it is an extremely rewarding business because it s all about making our visitors feel gratifying emotions." Jenny and Dan D Agostino, USA www.goape.com Andrew Cooper, Northern Ireland www.adventureactivitiesni.com We are delighted with the mobile ropes course and with the terrific service from Altus. Our highly experienced, Altus trained staff can erect the course in as little as 1 hour when required, and it has been experienced by 0,000 children and adults in schools and at major public attractions across Northern Ireland. We have received praise from Government Ministers, school teachers, parents and most importantly the young people who enjoy the sense of freedom and achievement regardless of their abilities." The Adventure Park business has definitely been an Adventure for us. As the very first and sole distributors in Japan, we had the exciting task of introducing a new concept in our country. An outdoor forest activity implies that some elements are out of our control and we have learnt that the most important factors in our business are passion and perseverance. Our greatest satisfaction is that our customers love their courses; it is always very gratifying to see happy customers. Our main priority is for all participants to enjoy the activity, to feel happy and to get home safely. So far we have been successful in our mission."
