CUBOREE PACKING LIST 5 th Scouts Queensland Cuboree Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre 23 rd to 28 th September 2018
INTRODUCTION Updated July 2018 This document outlines the basic requirements your Cub Scout will need to ensure they are suitably attired whilst attending Cuboree. SUITCASE/BACK PACK SIZE It is recommended that one suitcase or back pack be taken and limited to approximately 60 litres. To work out the size of a bag you should calculate the cubic volume of the bag intended to transport: To calculate the volume using length x width x height: e.g.: 0.64m x 0.35m x 0.3m = 0.0672m 3 which is approximately 67 litres (1 Litre = 0.001m3) or (same bag but in cm) 64cm x 35cm x 30cm = 67,200cm 3 (1 litre = 1000cm3). UNIFORM Cuboree Pack Shirt, Woggle & Scarf Cub Scouts attending Cuboree will receive a Cuboree Pack approximately four (4) weeks prior to Cuboree commencing. The pack will include a Cuboree Shirt, Cuboree Hat, Cuboree Scarf, Cuboree Woggle, Cuboree Event Badge and a set of Cuboree Camp Badges. Cub Scouts will be required to wear their Cuboree Shirt, Woggle and Scarf to and from Cuboree. The Woggle and Scarf ideally could travel in day packs to and from the event. These items are all required for the event as they will be required to wear these during Cuboree to assist with identification. Long bus trips further details will be advised in regards to preferred timing to put Cuboree shirts on to preserve them for the last leg of the journey. Cub Scout Uniform Cub Scouts will not be required to wear or bring their normal Cub Scout Uniform to and from Cuboree. BEDDING Mattresses With all Cub Scouts travelling by bus to the event, there will be restrictions on the size of bedding to ensure luggage can be accommodated. Additionally, come bedding setups can cause damage to the tent floors and walls. The Cuboree Executive Committee is placing the following restrictions on allowing bedding and sizes: Single self-inflating mattress Single blow up mattress (size: 188cm x 75cm x 24cm) Cub Scouts need to be able to set up and pack up their own bedding. Stretcher beds are not suitable for this event and should not be taken. If taking a blow-up mattress, please ensure that a pump is included. Sleeping Bag 2 P a g e
The nights at Maryborough may drop Updated to below July 15 2018 degrees; a sleeping bag to +5 degrees should be adequate for this event. Sleeping bags with eg Disney pictures will likely NOT be warm enough. Silk/Cotton sleeping bag inserts are optional liners to assist in keeping warm. Camp Blanket We encourage Cub Scouts to bring their camp blankets to showcase their badges and to use in case extra warmth is required but please make sure they are named. MEDICATION Any medication accompanying anyone attending Cuboree must be: Provided in a clear plastic (zip lock) bag clearly marked with the name of the person the medication belongs to, Clearly written instructions or medical treatment plans. o Examples of a medical treatment plan to treat a case of asthma: Self-administer 2 puffs from inhaler as needed. Ensure 2 inhaler puffs are taken before meals and prior to bedtime. o Medical Treatment plans are always provided from Doctors in consultation with patients and/or parents. If providing, please provide the treatment plan with the doctors contact details. For those Cub Scouts bringing medication and travelling by bus to Cuboree, parents are requested to pack their child s medication into a labelled plastic bag into their luggage. On arrival to their sub camp, the Cub Scout is asked to find the Village Welfare Officer to hand their medication to, which will then be stored in an appropriate place for further access during the camp. If the Cub Scout requires medication while travelling on the bus then they should hand their medication to the Pack Leader/Leader for administration in accordance with directions as required. No person should have any non-prescribed medication in bags such as Panadol, hay fever tablets, cold and flu tablets or cough drops. These should all be considered medication and be provided to leaders upon arrival with details. Self-administering of asthma inhalers will be returned after Welfare and Sub Camp Pack Leaders have sighted the medication and any clear instructions advising that this is permitted. PACKING TIPS It is recommended to pack each days' clothing in a separate zip lock bag. This will assist your Cub Scout to get ready for the day. It will also help to avoid losing clothing and dirty clothes can be put in the bag at days' end or after showering and changing. Please ensure all clothing, bedding, and loose items are labelled to assist in returning lost property. Any unclaimed items at the end of Cuboree will be donated to a charitable organisation. DAY PACK (TO CUBOREE) Please provide your Cub Scout with a Day Pack for the journey to Cuboree. Food stops will NOT be provided along the way (unless otherwise advised for the longer bus trips), but we do recognise that some Cub Scouts may require snacks or have conditions that require special diets, so we suggest packing a water bottle and any extra items, other than the banned items on the list below, for the journey (include a jumper in their day pack in case they get cold on the bus). 3 P a g e
