Once on the mainland a short drive brings us to Granville Island. After a little free time to stroll the market, sit down for a delicious welcome dinner. It s the perfect opportunity to get to know your tour director and fellow travellers. After dinner we transfer to Pacific Central Station where our train awaits. As the train pulls out of the station toast the beginning of our journey with an onboard Bon Voyage reception. Day 2 Saturday May 20, 2017 The Canadian to Jasper By first light the train will be arriving in Kamloops. A lovely hot breakfast will be served in the dining car and as the morning progresses we follow the Thompson River. Lunch is served in the dining car as we begin to enter the stunning Rockies. After passing Pyramid Falls and Mount Robson we cross the continental divide and enter Alberta. The train arrives in Jasper late this afternoon and we cross the street from the station to our hotel. After a little time to relax enjoy a lovely dinner. Today s breakfast, lunch and dinner are included Day 3 Sunday May 21, 2017 Jasper Columbia Icefields, Jasper National Park Today enjoy a tour of the northern sections of the Icefields Parkway. Stop at the impressive Athabasca Falls and other exciting view points along the route. Visit the Columbia Icefields Centre and embark on an Ice Explorer tour of the Athabasca Glacier. Return to Jasper this evening for a free night to explore the town. Day 4 Monday May 22, 2017 Jasper to The Canadian This morning is at leisure to explore the charming town of Jasper. This afternoon a scenic drive takes us to the shores of Maligne Lake. Enroute make a stop at the dramatic Maligne Canyon and Medicine Lake. We rejoin The Canadian in the late afternoon, bound for Winnipeg. This evening we travel along the Athabasca River Valley passing Edmonton around midnight. Day 5 Tuesday May 23, 2017 The Canadian to Winnipeg Views from the elevated dome Wake this morning to a drastically different landscape as we cross the vast and open Prairies. As the day progresses watch the swaying wheat fields and big skies of Saskatchewan. After dinner the train arrives in Winnipeg, a fascinating city which is home to over 50 ethnic communities and our home for the next two nights. A very short walk brings us from the station to our conveniently located and historic hotel, The Fort Garry. Today s breakfast, lunch and dinner are included Day 6 Wednesday May 24, 2017 - Winnipeg This morning we are joined by a local guide for a fascinating city tour including the Legislative Building, St. Boniface Cathedral, Assiniboine Park, The Forks and much more. In the town of Steinbach learn about a unique culture during a visit to the Mennonite Heritage Village. Return to Winnipeg this evening and enjoy dinner at a popular local restaurant before reboarding the Canadian to continue our journey east. Day 8 Friday May 26, 2017 The Canadian A relaxing full day aboard the train as you watch the ever changing landscapes roll by. Our journey today crosses into Northern Ontario a land of immense forests and many lakes. From the cozy comfort of the train view the rugged and wild Canadian Shield. The Canadian s journey ends as we arrive at Union Station in the heart of downtown Toronto this morning. Upon arrival a coach will be waiting so we can begin exploring the city. See City Hall, Roger s Centre, the harbourfront area, Queen s Park, Bay Street and Chinatown amongst other highlights before checking in to our centrally located downtown hotel. This evening ascend the CN Tower to marvel at the impressive view across the city and Lake Ontario before sitting down to a fantastic meal in the 360 revolving restaurant. Winnipeg, MB Union Station, Toronto Day 10 Sunday May 28, 2017 - Niagara Falls Leaving Toronto behind we follow the shoreline of Lake Ontario towards Niagara Falls. Soon we find ourselves in the picturesque town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Here take a little time to explore the charming streets, boutiques and cafes before we continue our travels down the Niagara Parkway. View the ridge at Queenstown and Brock s monument as you learn a little about the impact of the War 1812 before arriving at the brink of the Horseshoe Falls. After taking in the sites from the top we descend into the canyon for a short cruise into the mist aboard one of the Niagara River s famous tour boats. Later this afternoon we return to Toronto. Day 12- Tuesday May 30, 2017 Toronto to Montreal This morning we transfer back to Union Station and board one of VIA s corridor trains that will whisk us from Toronto to downtown Montreal. A beautiful ride skirting the shores of Lake Ontario and later the St. Lawrence River. Upon arrival in Montreal a short ride takes us to the luxurious and centrally located Sheraton Centre Hotel. Dinner Service in the dining car Day 13 Wednesday May 31, 2017 Montreal to VIA Rail s The Ocean After a morning at leisure in Montreal set out on a locally guided tour of city. Learn a little of the city s history and character as the tour progresses through the Vieux Port area, McGill University, Mount Royal and many of the city s fascinating neighbourhoods. This evening we begin the final leg of our rail journey as we board VIA Rail s The Ocean train destined for Halifax. Dinner service will commence in the dining car shortly after departure. As the sun begins to set the eastbound train will cross the fertile farmlands of the St. Lawrence River. Montreal, QC Day 14 Thursday June 1, 2017 The Ocean to Halifax This morning awake to find yourself in New Brunswick. The first views of the Atlantic Ocean come visible during breakfast as the train skirts the shoreline of the beautiful Bay of Chaleur. As the morning progresses our journey takes us through colourful Acadian towns and the city of Moncton. This afternoon the journey continues as the train crosses into Nova Scotia passing the Bay of Fundy briefly before following a more inland route through a mix of forest and farmland before arriving in the provincial capital, and the final stop of our journey, Halifax. Another conveniently located hotel allows us to walk directly out of the station and into the lobby of the Westin Nova Scotian on the beautiful Halifax Waterfront. Learn about the Nova Scotia capital s 250 plus years of history through tragedy and prosperity. Day 16 Saturday June 3, 2017 Halifax to Victoria Bid farewell to Nova Scotia this morning as we transfer to Halifax Airport for our return flight to Victoria. Upon arrival in Victoria a transfer will be available back home. Arrive home mid-afternoon with countless new memories and stories from this once in a lifetime Epic Canadian Journey. Today s Breakfast is included Halifax Waterfront Or continue your travels in the Maritimes by joining NOTES ABOUT TRAIN TRAVEL Mile Zero Tours 10 Day Magical Maritimes starting June 3 While onboard the overnight trains you will have exclusive use of your own private cabin as well as access to the Panorama car, activity cars with elevated domes and the dining car. Throughout the journey various activates take place such as music, wine tastings, historical lectures etc. and you are free to move about the train as you wish. All meals are included and are served in the dining car. Our train accommodations are booked in Sleeper Plus Class with private cabins. There are both single and double cabins available. The doubles consist of an upper and lower bunk and contain a small private washroom with sink, mirror and toilet. The single cabins have a lower bunk and contain the same washroom amenities as the double however when the bed is lowered the toilet is inaccessible requiring occupants to either lift the bed or use the public washroom a few doors down the car. Individual cabins do not contain showers but there is one for each sleeping car. Single cabins on the train are limited so it is recommended to book early. A single traveller may occupy a double cabin at additional cost. Please contact a Mile Zero Tours representative to discuss these options. Storage space is minimal in the train cabins so it is recommended that you use a small overnight bag. Larger suitcases will be transported in the baggage car and are not accessible while onboard. All luggage will be delivered to your rooms at the hotels. Trains in Canada are frequently delayed. As such very few activities have been scheduled on the days we arrive by train in anticipation of possible late arrivals. Best not to anticipate a tightly kept schedule when travelling the rails. Tour Policies: Early Booking: A $250 discount is offered off the first 10 seats booked and $100 off the next 10 until March 1, 2017 Deposit and Payment: A $400 deposit per person is required within 72 hours of booking or booking may be cancelled. Full payment is required by March 17, 2017. Airfare: Airfare has been included at our preferred group rate. For airfare, space should be reserved by March 17. After that date tour price with air may be different. Should you wish to book your own flights, price will be reduced by $450. Price Changes: In the event of significant changes in taxes or surcharges by suppliers or local government Mile Zero Tours reserves the right to increase price up until the time of departure. Cancellation policy: Full refund less $50 admin fee if cancelled before March 1, 2017 from Mar 1 to Mar 17, 2017 non-refundable amount increases to $125. After March 17, 2017 only 35% is refundable and after April 17, 2017 only 15% is refundable. There are no refunds offered after May 5 2017.
