Location: In the Twyfelfontein Conservancy is Mowani Mountain Camp and Camp Kipwe. Mowani Mountain Camp and Camp Kipwe nestles amongst the majestic boulders of this beautiful area on a high spot, commanding distant views over the ancient landscape. Great care has been taken with the design of the recreational areas, giving the impression of an African Village. Access: Windhoek to Mowani Mountain Camp and Camp Kipwe is a comfortable 5 hour drive on tarred roads. The last +/- 100km's is a well maintained sand road. Activities: Daytime activities at Mowani Mountain Camp include guided nature drives, in search of the elusive desert elephant, or self-guided nature walks in and around the camp. We also offer excursions to the Twyfelfontein rock engravings. Guests can also enjoy a pre-arranged (on arrival) guided walk in the rocky outcrops. A perfect end to a day at Mowani must include our signature sundowners on the rock overlooking the ocher valley! Activities at Camp Kipwe include nature drives with the possibility of seeing the desert-adapted elephants and Twyfelfontein excursions to the rock engravings. Arrival & Departure: We request that you check out by 10.00am to allow us to prepare the room for new arrivals. Arrival time is from 13.00 onwards, so we can be sure to have your room ready for you. Should you need a late checkout, please arrange with the lodge and this will be accommodated if at all possible. Children: Mowani Mountain Camp and Camp Kipwe are child friendly. Children under the age of 3 years of age stay Free of charge. Children age 3-12 are accommodated in a children s tent or on camping beds in the room with their parents at a rate of N$1 400 per child per night. Children under the age of 12 can be accommodated on camping beds in a children s tent or in the room with their parents. Please note that Mowani Mountain Camp and Camp Kipwe have a limited number of camping beds. Parents are requested to keep their children under control. Other guests need to be taken into consideration, especially on activities and when in the dining area. Please note that there are snakes and scorpions in the area and parents are requested to make sure that their children do not put their hands in little nooks and crannies. The Lodges are surrounded by boulders which can be dangerous and slippery. Parents are kindly requested to make sure that their children do not climb, jump and leap on the boulders. Special Meal times and food preferences are to be advised in advance for adequate preparations to be made to accommodate the requests.
Camp Kipwe (9 bush bungalows, 1 suite) Kipwe, meaning blessed in Swahili, is nestled in the boulders, facing out onto superb scenery. Incorporating boulders, small red basalt rocks and mopane branches, it has a natural organic feel. The nine rooms are round in shape, with large outside decks to admire the view. The outside, partially open bathrooms adjoining the twin bedded rooms have boulder, cement and rock walls, and roofs of rough mopane branches. Hot water is supplied by wood-burning donkey boilers. The luxury suite provides even more elegance, space and style for discerning guests. Suite: The luxury elevated, air-conditioned thatched suite has a private lounge equipped with a satellite television, a double room with en-suite open air bathroom and minibar with drinks included. Special offers for longer stays! The central area of the camp is raised and comprises four thatched domes; the reception area and curio shop, dining room, lounge and bar and guest toilets all with amazing views toward the Aba Huab riverbed. An outside boma area is an additional venue for dining or relaxing. The central lounge and dining areas are furnished in a colourful, relaxed African style inviting guests to linger and appreciate the views. Rough-hewn chunks of wood are used as small tables and woven lights hanging elegantly from the thatch roofs complete the picture. A small swimming pool built into the rocks and a viewpoint with 360 degrees of breath-taking beauty, are two attractive outdoor features.
Mowani Mountain Camp (13 rooms, 2 suites) The word M wane means "Place of God", and here you will find the true meaning of the words peace and tranquility. Rooms: 12 Twin bedded (can be converted into a King bed) rooms with thatched roofs and en-suite facilities. Superior View Rooms (Room 1,2,3,4) face west with a panoramic distant view and have the most superior view - breathtaking in fact! View Rooms (Room 5,6,7) have an eastern elevated view over the valley, not quite as good, but still exceptional. Standard View Rooms (room 8,9,10, 11 and 12) face to the east or northeast and have a more limited view into a boulder-strewn valley. Luxury Room: 1 double-bedded, thatched room with partly canvas walls, en-suite facilities and a mini bar (drinks excluded). The room is west facing with its own private deck overlooking the valley. It is situated close to the lodge and is ideal for guests who are not too mobile. Mini Suite: A luxury, thatched suite with a lounge equipped with air-conditioning, a satellite television, a double room with en-suite bathroom, a laundry service and minibar (drinks included). This suite is cocooned in the rocks with granite boulder views. Special long-stay offer available for stays of 4 nights or more! Mountain Suite: A luxury thatched suite with spectacular wrap-around views. Mowani Campsite Mowani offers campers 7 stunning campsites with individual bathrooms facilities; hot water provided by a donkey, flushing toilets and private kitchen wash-up areas. All sites offer gorgeous views of the area. The campsite does not have electricity. Boilers are lit on request only please arrange this at check-in. The campsite is serviced on a daily basis. Subject to availability and ONLY in the Low Season, campsite guests may make reservations for meals at the Lodge. Such reservations can only be made on arrival. Preference is given to Mowani Mountain Camp guests. None of the other facilities at Mowani Mountain Camp are available for campsite guests. Campsite guests are advised to bring along their own foodstuffs. Wood and ice is available for sale.
