18 3 Robin Hole at Burley Woodhead, is set in beautiful surroundings within the Yorkshire Dales. You should make yourself familiar with the site before you visit. The Booking Secretary will be able to arrange a suitable time for you. A Risk Assessment for the House and Site is available online at www.girlguidingleeds.org.uk/properties/ This should be used in conjunction with your camp and holiday plans to produce your own risk assessment. Offering both camping areas and fully equipped residential accommodation, it is the perfect location for exploring Yorkshire s stunning countryside. Whether you want to go walking on Ilkley Moor (level two walking qualification required), climbing at the famous Cow and Calf Rocks, go swimming at the local outdoor swimming pool or practise your archery skills, Robin Hole is the ideal campsite to use during your stay. The towns of Ilkley and Otley are close to Robin Hole, whilst Bradford, Harrogate and Leeds are within easy travelling distance. There are numerous places of interest, catering for most tastes, within the surrounding area. We hope that you enjoy your stay at Robin Hole and that you find the information within this house and site booklet useful. Please pass this information on to members of your group, as appropriate. Please can you all read the information carefully before your unit visit and have it with you to refer to during your stay. Please remember to sign the visitor s book during your stay. You will find it in the kitchen drawer in the house. Transport Trains run from Burley in Wharfedale Station to Ilkley, Bradford, Leeds and Shipley. Buses run from the centre of the village to local places of interest 18 3

4 17 House Information The house comprises of a hall, kitchen, leaders room, bunk room and toilet and shower facilities. It can sleep 22 children and four adults. Kitchen A large fully equipped kitchen with a good quality domestic electric cooker with large oven and six top rings and large fridge freezer. Cooking and serving utensils are provided. Cutlery and crockery provided for 30 people. Where to find us The campsite is situated to the left of the entrance to Stead Lane. Hall This large versatile space, featuring a large open fireplace, has tables and chairs for dining and craft activities. 12 folding tables (each seats 6) 2 larger folding tables 40 stacking chairs 24 small wooden stools (labelled Robin Hole ) A few larger wooden stools Bunk Room The Bunk Room sleeps 22 in bunk beds. Each bed has an attached storage box and a blanket. Leaders Room The Leaders room sleeps four people in one room in two 3 single beds and one double bunk. Storage drawers are provided and there is a telephone in this room. One blanket per bed is provided. Toilets and showers There are two washrooms, each with three toilets, one shower and four hand basins. There is also a smaller washroom with toilet, shower and hand basin equipped for disabled users. Electricity You will be charged a seasonally adjusted electricity charge for electricity usage for visits between October half-term and Easter, inclusive. The cost of this will be confirmed to you at the time of booking. There is no insurance cover for fridge or freezer failure. If you need to switch the big heaters on in the hall, you need to press the button in the leaders room and then use the switches underneath the heaters as normal. Campsite Information There is a lower and upper camping area, both able to accommodate groups of 30 each. Campers will have access to the purpose built camping shelter, which contains two toilets and a store room with a fridge and kettle. You must not cook in the shelter. There are two taps on the campsite, as well as an outside tap at the end of the house. All water on the site is safe to drink. All parts of the site have concrete bases for fires and there is often a supply of wood available. Please do not use the base behind the shelter for a fire. Tents (Stormhavens) and camping equipment are available to hire. Basic cooking equipment is also available. Please enquire when booking. Robin Hole House and Campsite information 16 5

14 7 Fees The fees for 2018 are: Girlguiding Leeds groups - 50 non-returnable booking fee plus site fees of: House - 5 per person per night if the house is used Campsite and shelter - 3.50 per head per night if the campsite is booked House and campsite - 7.50 per head per night Day visitors - 1.50 per head per day. A minimum site fee of 75 applies to all bookings. All other groups - 100 non-returnable booking fee plus house & campsite fees as above. For bookings between October half-term and Easter, inclusive, there will also be a seasonally adjusted electricity charge added to your account. The price will be confirmed to you at the time of booking. The booking fee must be paid when the booking is confirmed. The rest of the fees will be due after your stay. Please note that if you book the whole site you will pay 7.50 per head per night for everyone in your booking. If you only book the house or the campsite, another party may book the remaining accommodation. The fee for daytime/ evening hire is 1.50 per person. There is no booking fee to pay for these sessions. Please ensure that your group is fully aware of the following safety guidelines when using the equipment. There are helmets in the store room in the house, but there is no requirement to wear them. Safe practise: Climb down - don t jump Don t climb above, or below anyone else Don t run/ walk underneath anyone climbing. Teach your participants to spot for each other. This is where children will climb in pairs, the child on the ground is to make sure their climber lands correctly should they fall, guiding them to the floor. Report any spinning holds when you return the keys. Games to play: There are lots of climbing games available on the Internet. Some favourites are: Hide and seek - hide a small object/ toy in the holds and the children have to climb around to find it. Off ground tig. Shark attack - one child is a shark, everyone else are fishes. When the leader shouts SHARK ATTACK, the kids have to run and get their feet off the floor before the shark catches them. If you are caught, you become a shark as well. The last fish wins. 14 7

Rubbish disposal there is no refuse collection service. All rubbish must be burnt or removed by you. There is an incinerator in the Camp Store and a Waste Disposal Site in Golden Butts Road, Ilkley. Please do not put any fire remnants down the drains. Additional considerations for house users Clearing up please leave the house and campsite tidy. Make use of the checklists in the kitchen. Any damage to the building, site or walls must be reported to the Management Committee. (see the list in the red Information file in the kitchen drawer.) Household cleaners such as bleach, disinfectants, and drain and toilet bowl cleaners should be used in moderation please. Any chemicals, cleaning/washing products, brought onto site should be taken home and NOT left on site. Keys please return your key with your account sheet and balance of fees as soon as possible after your visit. Souvenirs supplies of badges and souvenirs, with price lists, are in the drawers in the kitchen. Please send the money to the Booking Secretary with your account sheet and fees. Additional considerations for campsite users Clearing up please leave the camp shelter, toilets and all its contents clean and tidy on departure. Please report any issues to the Booking Secretary. Souvenirs If you would like to buy the Robin Hole badge or the Robin Hole 50 year anniversary badge (at 1 each), please send your money with a note and a 1.50 postage fee, to the booking Secretary with your account sheet and sites fees. The badges will then be posted to you. 13 8 13

12 9 Composting toilet there are two composting toilets in the shelter for use on the site. When arriving on the site please ensure that the buckets have capacity before you start to use them. If they need changing, clean buckets and cocoa chips can be found in the shelter. Replace with a new bucket and date the full bucket and place in the designated area. When leaving, please also check the buckets for the next party and replace as necessary. Please report any issues to the Booking Secretary. Chemical toilets if you are using your own chemical toilets, please ensure any chemicals flushed down our drain is allowed, E.g. NO fire remnants. Water there is an outside tap on the end of the house and two taps on the campsites. The stop taps for these are near the back steps. Keys for turning them on are located in the kitchen and in the Camp Store. The water is metered. Please use it carefully. Other things to note for all users Fires - please light all fires on the concrete bases. Ensure that grids are cooled and returned to the shed, that fire bases are swept clean and bricks are stacked neatly in the place where you found them. Please dispose of any leftover ashes right up against the perimeter of the site in the nettles. Fire-grids are in the shed on the lower site, behind the shelter. Water buckets are available in the Camp Store for use with outside fires. Wood a limited supply is sometimes available. If you intend to cook on wood fires or have large campfires you will need to supplement this. It is a good idea to arrange to bring a small amount of dry kindling wood. Please make sure all fires are kept within the concrete bases and that no unsuitable material (eg MDF, wood with nails in) is left on the site. Tools axe, saw, ropes etc are in the Camp Store at the back of the house or in the Equipment Room off the Hall. First Aid - There is a box in the kitchen for emergency use only. You should have your own supplies for general use. Caravans - Caravans and other types of vehicle for sleeping are not allowed on the site or in the car park. Other information is available from the Tourist Office in Ilkley. Fireworks no fireworks are allowed on or near the site. Dogs Leaders own dogs may be brought but they remain the total responsibility of the owner. Please provide and use a poop scoop at all times. Gates It is essential that the gates are always closed and locked. The gate padlock numbers are displayed alongside the keys in the kitchen. Before you arrive What you need to know Insurance - make sure you are adequately covered by your unit s insurance for any of your own equipment. Guiding members are covered by the Association s insurance if the correct Residential Event Notification form and activity forms have been completed. Non-guiding groups need their own insurance. Residential Event Notification Form (REN) send your completed REN to your district commissioner at least six weeks before your event. She will check it, sign and return it to you to signify that you have permission to go ahead with your arrangements. Cars must never be parked in Stead Lane. Arrival by coach is possible but note that it is not possible for coaches to get into the car park, to park or turn. Risk assessment the leader in charge of each group is responsible for the risk assessment relating to the ages of the members and the activities to be undertaken by the group. Additional considerations for house users Keys groups using the House will receive a key for the kitchen door about two weeks before a visit. All other keys are in the kitchen. What to bring with you groups must bring their own sleeping bags, pillows, pillow cases, towels, tea towels, dishcloths, toilet rolls etc. Electrical equipment if you are bringing any of your own electrical equipment please make sure it is safe to use. 10 Additional considerations for campsite users Key safe groups using the campsite will receive the code for the shelter key safe about two weeks before a visit. What to bring with you campers must bring personal plates, mugs, cutlery etc, but there is basic cooking equipment for a camp of 30. On arrival at Robin Hole House users Safety fire extinguishers and heat detectors are provided in the house and fire exit notices are displayed. Make sure you familiarise yourself with the alarm instructions displayed in the kitchen. The control panel for the system is high on the wall to the left of the outer door at the end of the passage. Group leaders must check the alarm system on arrival and sign the book to say it has been done. Hygiene please read the notice in the Hall drawing attention to personal hygiene, to minimise the risk of infection which can be present where animals are or have been grazing. Telephone the landline is in the Leaders Room.( 01943 863865) Please pay realistically for your calls and put the money in the box provided. Please note that mobile phone signals are quite weak at the site. Water there is an outside tap on the end of the house and two taps on the campsites. The stop taps for these are near the back steps. Keys for turning them on are located in the kitchen and in the Camp Store. The water is metered. Please use it carefully. The hot water tanks for the showers are in the Equipment Room off the Main Hall. These operate on a timer, which goes on at 4pm on Friday and goes off on 1pm on a Sunday. This means that you will have hot water in the showers and toilets on arrival. In accordance with H & S legislation and Girlguiding Leeds procedures please ensure that the shower is run, on hot, for at least two minutes before use. Hall heaters if you need to switch the big heaters on in the hall, you need to press the button in the Leaders Room and then use the switches underneath the heaters as normal. Please see picture on page 4. Wood burning stove there is a new wood burning stove at Robin Hole. It is recommended that you take your own firelighters and briquettes suitable for a wood burning stove with you. There will be wood to burn on the site, but you must not burn anything that is remotely damp. Instructions for using the wood burning stove are on the mantelpiece in the main hall. On arrival at Robin Hole Campsite users Pitch please do not pitch tents on the grass in front of the house. It is usually damp and we do not want the grass to be worn unnecessarily.
