MARCH 2018 NEWSLETTER CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Hello to all and welcome to the March edition of the club newsletter. We will be sending a newsletter every month now until November and hopefully once the cold and wet winter weather passes we are going to see a lot more of our vehicles out on the road and attending the club gatherings. The January Sunday meeting was well attended despite the miserable weather and the St Clement's Parish Hall venue seems to be proving popular. For those members who have not yet been, pop down and have a chat and a coffee with fellow members. It is also time to consider your travel arrangements if you are thinking of attending either the Guernsey Classic show or the St Helen French run. I have already heard of several members who are going to Guernsey. I have been for the previous 2 years so this year I am attending the St Helen weekend at the end of June. Please let the club know via email if you are thinking of a trip so we can advise the host clubs of numbers. Cheers for now Tim. CLUB NEWS The new club website is progressing well and several meetings have been held with Chris, the designer. A training session has also been held so that we are able to update the site ourselves and keep all the information up to date. We are hoping it will be launched very shortly. Our 2 club sail banners are starting to look a bit tired so at our committee meeting we decided to purchase 2 new sails, plus 1 complete new banner to promote the club at our Sunday meetings and public displays. The new banners will also have the TS Tools logo and have now arrived. The Yeovil Car Club are planning a return visit to the Island for the Festival of Motoring with 7 cars already booked. We hope to organise a get together and car run with them when they are here. Just a quick note to say that the Tractor run on Sunday 5th August will start at Derek Vivian's home, Entre Nous, Rue D'Empierre, Trinity. Please meet at 10.00 am for an 11.00 am start. Tractor and Commercial Run contacts are Derek Vivian M. 07797 763241 and Sam Pallot M. 07797 711861 Thanks. Tim. TRACTOR RUN & CRANK UP THURSDAY 28th DECEMBER 2017 A great turnout of 17 tractors made this, the second Christmas tractor run held by the Club, very successful. The dull and rainy weather that had been experienced over Christmas time thankfully let up on the morning of the run and, although rather cold, didn t deter the hardy bunch of drivers from wrapping up and taking to the country lanes for the 10 miles run. On leaving the Steam Museum they headed towards the back of Trinity School, on to Peacock Farm, Victoria Village, Paul Mill then down into Vallee des Vaux before returning to the Museum, about an hour later, to enjoy the Crank Up and refreshments and to meet up with old friends.
DECEMBER CAR OF THE MONTH: Saab 900i (16v) 1989 J23085 I bought my Saab from new in 1989 -it was like having another child! Over the years I have only had a few minor repairs to carry out. For example, replacing the CV joint, water pump and radiator. Much to my horror a couple of years ago, I found a "rust spot" on the bonnet...immediate action was required. I left the decorating I was half way through and set about getting the spot repaired and re-sprayed, thankfully afterwards the outcome was amazing, and I went back to the DIY. As our dog "ate" the roof, and it was shredded, the roof lining not the dog! I now have a nice new lining which was supplied and fitted by Paul Allman whose workshop is at La Collette. Paul did a great job, there is not a tooth mark to be John Wilson receiving his seen anywhere now. trophy for December When the children were small we did a lot of travelling across Europe in the car. We could even camp in it, as there is a purpose made tent that fits the Saab. I can't imagine many people have a "Saab Tent", actually it's quite roomy, as you can see from the photo. I have had Saabs for over 40 Years now, so if anyone wants any information I would be happy to help if I can. As a new member of the club I was very pleased and surprised to be awarded car of the month. Thank you. John Wilson
