The peace and quiet is all topped off by the views over the magnificent scenery of the Pallas fells. Situated in Muonio, Olos is shaped by lakes, rivers, streams and fells. Transfers to and from the airport in shuttle buses are arranged for you. You already selected the transfer option when you registered on-line The distance from the airport to the venue is a 45 minute journey. Registration In the shuttle from the airport to the conference venue, you will receive an envelope with your room key as well as other information. The shuttle will deliver you to the corresponding hotel. The registration desk will be opened in building 6, level -1, where the conference will take place. Posters The poster rooms are in building 2, in the rooms Conference 3 and Conference 4. The size of the poster boards are 240 cm (height) on 97 cm (width). A0 posters can fit in there (118,9 cm * 84,1 cm). Please bring pins to attach your poster. The poster boards have the same numbering as the posters in the abstract book and the appendix. In addition, the poster author and number list will be displayed in front of the poster rooms to guide you to the poster board reserved for you. All posters related to themes 1 to theme 4, session 4 (Achieving quality IV: From metabolites and recombinant proteins to plant-made pharmaceuticals) will be displayed in the room Conference 3. Respectively, all from theme 4, session 5 (Achieving quality V: Plants with improved nutritional quality and value) until the last session (Strengthening the functioning of ecosystems IV: Biodiversity) will be displayed in the room Conference 4. Posters can be put up on the boards from 16:00 on Sunday 29 August 2010 and at the latest by 11:00 the next morning. Posters can be viewed from Sunday on throughout the conference and should be removed at the end of the meeting by Wednesday evening. Poster sessions will be held on: - Monday evening 30 th August from 20:00 to 22:00. Posters with even numbers should be attended from 20:00 to 21:00, those with uneven numbers from 21:00 to 22:00. Drinks will be served in the poster room. - Wednesday 1 st September from 13:30 to 15:00. Posters with uneven numbers should be attended from 13:30 to 14:20, those with even numbers from 14:20 to 15:00. A jury will select the best three posters for a poster price awarded at the conference dinner. Speakers The presentations will be shown on Windows PCs with Ms Office 2007 and Open Office 3. The presentations should be Microsoft PowerPoint or Open Office Impress, either.odp,.ppt,.pptx,.pps or.ppsx, alternatively you can bring presentations converted to Adobe pdf. Movies can be shown on Apple QuickTime or the VideoLAN Client. The files can be brought as CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or USB-stick. For all further plug-ins, software and for all other technical questions contact Mika Keränen at mkeranen@utu.fi. If you wish Mika to test-run your presentation on the conference computer before the conference, you can send it before Wednesday 25 August 2010 to Mika by email.

Recommendations for Mac-users: - As the presentations will be shown on a PC environment, we recommend bringing a pdf-presentation as back-up. This should eliminate most compatibility problems. - When editing a picture file (e.g. jpeg), please edit it on the original file outside PowerPoint and re-import it to PowerPoint instead of editing the picture directly in PowerPoint. - If you have movies or clips, please bring them also as separate files so they can be imbed freshly if a problem occurs. A good way to circumvent problems is to test the presentation on windows PC in your institute before going to Finland. Speakers are requested to load and test their presentation on the conference PC at least 2 hours before the onset of their session. This can be done directly at the projection desk in the lecture room (responsible person is Mika Keränen) at the following hours: Sun 29 th August 16:00-18:30 Mon 30 th August 8:00-8:15 / 11:00-11:15 / 13:30-14:30 / 17:00-17:15 Tue 31 st August 8:00-8:15 / 10:30-10:45 / 16:30-16:45 Wed 01 st September 8:00-8:15 /10:30-10:45 / 13:00-14:00 /17:00-17:15 Time slots available for presentation and discussion are stated in the programme following your name. We trust you respect the time slots, to have sufficient time for discussion, in the interest of all conference participants. Session chairs As chair of the session you will open the session, in most cases give the first talk and then introduce the speakers and chair the discussion. For the speaker introduction you may use the CVs of invited speakers in the conference abstract book and you will acknowledge the organisation sponsoring the session or the speaker as shown in the conference programme which is attached to this mail. As chair you will point out the time schedule to each speaker as shown in the conference programme (presentation and discussion time) and ensure proper timekeeping during the session so all participants will have sufficient time for discussion during the sessions and the breaks. Internet access Wireless broadband connection will be available in all apartments (apartment hotel and log holiday apartments) and in all conference areas. Free hard-wired internet access (LAN) is available in hotel rooms (building n 1). Coffee breaks, lunch and dinner For the duration of the conference all meals are included for all participants. The first official conference meal is the Welcome reception-dinner on Sunday 29 th August; the last one is breakfast on Thursday 2 nd September (included in the room price). Upon your arrival, you will receive an EPSO ticket for each meal during the conference (except for breakfasts).

You will have breakfast, lunch and dinner in Olos restaurant (building 5). Please bring the correct EPSO meal ticket for every meal: a helping student will ask you to present it at the entrance of the restaurant. Welcome reception The Welcome buffet dinner will be held on Sunday evening 29 th August 2010 at 20:45 in the lobby (building 6) and in the Olos restaurant (building 5) afterwards. Conference dinner The Conference dinner will be held on Wednesday 1 st September 2010 at 20:45 in Ylläs. Shuttles will leave from the conference venue at 20:00. We would like to invite all registered participants, registered accompanying persons and invited speakers to attend the conference dinner, which is included in the registration fee. Please, bring the correct meal ticket. Excursions Tuesday 31 st August 2010 from 13:00 to 16:30. Two excursions are organised on the third day. Your participation is optional. Should you not wish to participate to any, you will enjoy a lunch at the conference and have free time in the afternoon to discover the landscape. All excursions will start at 13:00. The return is foreseen at the same place approximately at 16:30. Please, bring the Excursion ticket. Excursion to a reindeer farm (45 EUR) Pick-up for the reindeer farm excursion at 13:00, at the main entrance of the conference venue; back at the conference venue at 16:30. Lunch will be served at the conference venue at 12:00 (included in the fee). A coach will take you to the village of Torassieppi that has been recognised as a village landscape of national heritage. In Torassieppi, there is a reindeer farm kept by the same family since the early 19th century. For over a hundred years the farm got its income from reindeer herding and working as a guest house for travellers. Today, the Lapinkartano Manor lives in a new era showing tourists the ways of past times. During your visit here you will hear more about the past and present of the farm and reindeer herding, watch the A year of a reindeer slide show and take a short ride in a reindeer sleigh (600m). Coffee and tea with sweet bread are served during the visit. Hiking on a nature trail in Olos (45 EUR) Pick-up for the excursion at the main entrance of the conference venue; back at the conference venue at 16:30.

The tour will start directly from the hotel following the Nature Trail towards the top of Olos Fjell. During the tour you will be taught basic survival skills in Lappish nature (for example fire making, how to find your way if you are lost etc.) At the top of Olos, right next to the mighty windmills (windturbines for making green power) we will admire the Beautiful view to the National park. On the way we will also enjoy sausages and coffee/tea by the fire. Accommodation Different room types are proposed by Olos Lapland Hotels. Breakfast and use of the hotel sauna and swimming pool are included in the room rates. All rooms (except the rooms in building 5) have internet connection. You can find the map with each building for accommodation on page 10. Transport Kittilä is the closest airport from the venue. When registering, you can book the transfers. Shuttle buses will wait at every flight arrival. On your departure day, you will be picked up to the airport (according to your flight schedules). The conference venue is located in Olos (Muonio) at: - approximately 45 min from Kittilä airport - approximately 1 hour from Kolari station and 2:30 hours from Rovaniemi airport Climate Beginning of September, the ruska season starts: forest landscape turns into a splendid array of red and gold. The mean daily temperature varies between 10 C and 16 C. Currency The currency in Finland is EURO. Coins: 2 and 1 Euro; 50, 20, 10, 5, 2 and 1 Eurocent Bank notes: 50, 20, 10 and 5.
