Fortunately I really didn't get hurt, so please don't worry too much about me. I was coming home from WalMart, and when I turned into the driveway I accidentally pushed down on the accelerator instead of the brake. The garage door is slightly bent but fortunately the pickup came to a halt when it bumped into your car. I am really sorry, but I know with your kind-hearted personality you will forgive me. You know how much I love you and care for you my sweetheart. I am enclosing a picture of the damage for you. I cannot wait to hold you in my arms again. Your loving wife/ P.S. YOUR GIRLFRIEND CALLED! Photos from last year s SoCalAMX AMC Car Show SoCalAMX Car Show 2015 May 30 th, 2015, Montclair The 9 th Annual SoCalAMX car show is on! Permission to use the same location as last year has been obtained. The t-shirt design has been finished. The pieces are starting to fall together. But the word about the show still needs to get out. One big word or phrase to spread around is that at the beginning of the show at 10am there will be a short presentation of the Playmate AMX Reveal. The Playmate AMX has been undergoing a three year restoration, and will be on display at the show after its car cover is pulled off at the presentation. You ll see in this newsletter one of the four car show flyer pages is a map of the car show s parking lot. Study it or print out a copy before you come to the show. To streamline the arrival of show cars I d like you to use the driveway entrance between the two orange cones you ll see as you approach. All other cars of friends and family I d like you to head towards the rear parking lot behind Pegasus Hobbies. If you have any questions you can of course contact me in advance at mightypilot@gmail.com. I received several positive comments about the site we used last year, no negative comments, so I pursued the possibility of again hosting our show there and with the help of Tom Macomber and we have the whole parking lot to ourselves. As for food, I will once again have pizza delivered around noon time for everyone. Cold drinks & water will be on hand for everyone. Some changes I have made for this year s show deal with the trophies. Instead of multiple classes of cars I have decided to have simple Top 10 Car trophies, and a Best Of Show. This will make balloting easier, and will allow relaxed parking rules for the show cars. Pretty much everyone can pick where they want to park, although I will try to get all the AMX s and Javelins to park together along the long row on the east side of the parking lot. The schedule for the car show will remain the same as last year. Late Friday afternoon there will be a bar -b-q at Dave & Katy Chicks home. Early Saturday morning for the early risers let s meet at the café at Cable Airport nearby. After the main show there s The Hat around the corner for great food. Details on this events including the car show are in the 4 page car show flyer. 2

Playmate AMX Update To be truthful I m running out of Playmate AMX updates. Actually the car is about 99.99% finished. After last weekend at Allen s home we had the door panels on, and the sill plates screwed down. There are two small brackets that go on the front grille that we couldn t find and had to order. Also had to order a third set of those circles that go on the rear quarter panel around the AMX letters. When we opened the package that contained the first circles I bought several years ago the pins were broken. Then the pins on the second set I ordered did not line up. So I bought a third set that if as good as the ebay auction description says they are, they should be on the car by now. Things are wrapping up on the project. It s been just under 5 years since I bought the car. I received an advance copy of the May/June AMO magazine. The pink powder puff is on the cover. Inside there is a two page article I wrote for the issue. In my article I refer to a 1983 magazine article about the Playmate and the car. In that article she states a time will come when her little AMX will remove its black mask and return to the original pink. That time has come for the Playmate AMX to be shared with the AMC community. There s more news to report on the Playmate AMX, but since it hasn t happened yet, I ll save it for next month s issue. Front End Fancy? Those pesky circles. BTW, the AM/8track radio works! Make sure you re at our club s 9th annual AMC car show on May 30th in Montclair. We re going to have a Reveal presentation right at the start to kick the show off. Go to socalamx.net/carshow for an entry form. Mark Melvin The end of the project.. 3

Dr. George Car Show February 14, 2015 By Randy Kirby I met up with Mark, and Rod & Debra for breakfast on the way to the show. Rod & Debra let us know they were coming, finally! Had not heard from them since we met at the Vegas Show in November! They have a black primer 69 with Lime Green stripes, I kinda like the green stripes! They have plans for the car down the road, and I think it looks great. We got here about 9:30, and parking was scarce! But we found these 3 spots...you might notice the speakers right over our spot...gee, I wonder why these were open... This show was full this year, they only take 1000 cars here. Sorry my pix are coming out blurry, damn camera is too complicated, I liked my old point & shoot. I got to see EVERY car here, I was passing out fliers for the Cruisin' Grand Fundraiser on the next weekend. I didn't get to hang with our little group, so I hope I didn't hang anyone up There was a Nash Wagon, 4 Hudson's, a Rambler Wagon, another AMX, and a Marlin here! Pretty Cool! Yea...I have a soft spot for Cobras... We met Gary Reed when he stopped by as we were parking, Mark gave him Club info and they talked awhile, and I grabbed some pix of his Green 68 AMX on my long trek with fliers, he was parked a few rows over from us. John & Mary Humphrey are down from Oregon! I think they do a tour of shows in SoCal to get out of the cold in the winters. They have this pretty Aqua 66 Marlin, and I have met them before, could have been here, or the National in Sacramento, or the National in Sparks, but we have met before! And will again! Nice People. Bob has this big Hornet, and he also has a 1957 Rebel, you know, the first Muscle Car! I told him about the All AMC Show in May, and I hope he brings one of his cars out. AMC has run in his Family, so you know he has some stories to tell! No way to get a real grasp of the show field, but here is a pix from the back of the DJ truck. Had to take pix of this Big Beautiful 1948 Diamond T Truck, Very Nice! A lotta love went into this baby. 4

Midnight At The Oasis Last year I signed up for the Yuma car show Randy Kirby usually goes to each year, but ended up not making it because my mom picked the same day to get married and I had to travel north to attend. That was last year. This year is now! So on Thursday, March 5, around noon, I pointed the front end of my red 69 AMX eastward, slid the shifter into 5 th gear, and motored towards a meeting point where I d join up with Dave & Kati Chick. Our destination? Yuma, AZ and the 2015 Midnight At The Oasis car show. Thursday upon arriving in Yuma, I followed the Chicks to a RV park so they could park their motor home and unload their 68 AMX. Together we drove over to a designated point where there was an impromptu gathering of show cars. It was already too full for us to park our cars amongst the others so we parked on a side street a block away and walked over to look at the cars. After a time we got thirsty so we made a detour into a pub and sampled the beer selection. At the end of that we were hungry so we were out of there and went to a small hole in the wall Mexican restaurant for dinner. Being that it was late we called it a night in anticipation of the next morning s arrival of the rest of the group. Friday morning Dave & Kati and I met at a small diner for breakfast, and then went over to the complex where the show is held. This complex used to be where the San Diego Padres baseball team held their spring training; it s simply a series of four baseball fields with their home plates located next to each other in a quad or square configuration. The hosts of the show do a great job of keeping everything organized in an orderly fashion. The way the parking of show cars works is everyone parks on the grass of the baseball fields. You can pay $10 in advance for a specific reserved parking spot that is good for the whole weekend. In the early afternoon Randy and Cindy, and Dale Crum and friend arrived and joined Dave and Kati and myself in our designated parking spots. We walked around and checked out the cars, while at the same time heading in the direction of the Civic Center building where they feed all entrants 3 meals over the 3-day event. For lunch we had all you can eat bar-b-cue chicken, joined by coleslaw, rice, beans, and tortillas. Next on the day s list of events was the parade. Around 4:30 we headed over to a large parking lot several miles away where several hundred other cars were already waiting, lined up in rows. At the start of the parade the cars were led out of the parking lot, by a fire truck I think, and onto an approximately 5 mile route around the area, and back to the baseball field/car show complex. Along the route were thousands of people lined up on the side of the road, waving and clapping and whistling. Everybody was hungry so we went to a Japanese joint for egg rolls and whatever else they had. We had to hurry back to the car show field for the free concert, included with each car entry. Friday night s entertainers were Elton John and AC/DC, both tribute bands. Saturday morning we all met at the show field. The majority of the day was spent looking at all of the other great cars, as well as sticking around our cars and answering the questions of the many spectators milling about. In the late afternoon we once again headed over to the Civic Center building for our second free meal, which was a very tasty course of all you can eat Tri -Tip meat, rice and beans, and tortillas. We finished up the evening with another concert with a tribute band medley of Neal Diamond, The Four Seasons, and Journey. The next morning I slept in until 6am and got on the road to head home, as I had to work Sunday night. Man, I had barely crossed the border into California and there they were, the CHP working the roads looking for speeding ticket candidates. Thankfully I was at a slow cruise and they passed me by. This was a very nice show. I ll probably sign up to go next year. If anyone would like to come just know that you must sign up for this show early. At least six months in advance. They will start accepting entries for 2016 after April 1 this year. Mark Melvin 5

Girls who like AMCs aren t weird. They are a rare gift from God! 2015 Midnight At The Oasis Show Cindy Kirby & Kati Chick Mark s red 69 AMX & Dave s white 68 AMX Lined up for the parade Jon s 70 Javelin Quad AMC s BBG! Kinda.. Dale Crum s dad s 59 Ford 6 Very clean Buick

Who needs a good as new set of rocker covers for their 68-69 AMX? I have a contact who is reproducing these covers. Here is what they look like. He made a large run, which sold out. He is making a second run. Now is the time to order. You don't have to pay now, but you need to speak up so you will be one of the first to receive a set. There probably won't be a third run of these. The cost will be approx. $280 with $15 for shipping. I have two on order. They will be available around June/July.. 7
