This evening, we will have Soot painting workshop run by painter Vijay Kumawat together with an exhibition of his work. Soot on paper is an art form created by wildlife artist MD Parashar in Ranthambhore. One day, he was cleaning the soot accumulated on a lamp and as the fine powder fell on the ground, he used his art paper as a tissue to wipe it off the floor. To his surprise, he saw the soot settle as several fine tones on the paper. This motivated him to create a new art form - one that uses soot from vehicle exhaust and rolled up newspapers as the brush. He has not only created several memorable pieces of work, but has taught and inspired many young artists in Ranthambhore. Vijay Kumawat: Vijay is a wildlife painter, photographer and qualified guide. He is a student of Ranthambhore's fabled Soot Painting technique and is one of the most recognized and awarded artists there. His work has travelled far and wide with exhibitions in India and Europe.
