. WEST AFRICA CW ALERT /7/8 5 LT PIRATE ATTACK 6 7. N. E It has been reported that a Panamanian flagged reefer was attacked inbound to Port Harcourt, nm southwest of Bonny. The vessel was approached by a single speed boat with eight to nine armed men on board. The vessel engaged in evasive manoeuvres. The pirates then fired several shots at the vessel resulting in the armed security team returning fire and the pirates aborting their attempt at boarding. The report also states that the vessel was attacked a second time at position 8N 6 57E approximately nm south of Bonny at :hrs. UPDATE: Confirmation has been received stating that the vessel is now safe. CW ALERT CW ALERT /7/8 9 LT ROBBERY 6 6. N. E CW ALERT It has been reported that a robber was able to board an anchored, Indian flagged tanker at Lagos Anchorage. The intruder tied up his canoe boat to the anchor chain before boarding the vessel. Duty crew spotted the perpetrator on deck, raised the alarm and alerted the local security patrol vessels. Upon hearing the alarm, the robber made his escape. The vessel and crew all reported safe. CW ALERT 9 CW ALERT 9 /7/8 9 UTC SUSPICIOUS VESSEL 5. N 6. E It has been reported that the Duty Officer on board a tug underway approximately nm south west of Bayelsa, observed a fishing boat launching a long skiff into the water with four to five persons on board. The skiff approached to within.5nm of the tug resulting in the alarm being raised. The tug increased speed and headed into the swell. The skiff made several attempts to get closer but failed due to the rough weather conditions. The skiff continued to follow the tug for over five hours before aborting its attempt at boarding and moving away. PIRACY ATTACK SUSPICIOUS VESSELS ROBBERY HIJACKING GENERAL ALERT CAUTION
. WEST AFRICA CW ALERT /7/8 5 LT ROBBERY 6 6. 8 N 9. 6 E It has been reported that robbers were able to board an anchored tanker conducting STS operations at Lagos Anchorage. Duty crew spotted two perpetrators on the forecastle and raised the alarm. Upon hearing the alarm, the robbers jumped overboard and escaped empty handed into two small boats. A Nigerian Naval patrol vessel was dispatched and secured the surrounding area twenty minutes later. All the crew were reported safe. CW ALERT CW ALERT /7/8 5 UTC SUSPICIOUS VESSEL 5. 6 N. 8 E CW ALERT 5 Clearwater has received a report that an Italian flagged tug boat was approached whilst underway, 6nm Southeast of Accra. The Duty Officer spotted a fishing vessel lowering two red and grey skiffs into the water, each with up to four persons onboard. The skiffs began to approach the tug at high speed. The Master raised the alarm, headed into the swell and increased speed resulting in the skiffs aborting their approach. CW ALERT CW ALERT 5 /7/8 5 LT ROBBERY 5. N. 8 W It has been reported that robbers were able to board an anchored Singapore flagged tanker at Abidjan anchorage. Duty crew spotted one robber loading mooring ropes from the tanker into a waiting canoe with two more perpetrators waiting onboard. The alarm was raised which resulted in the robbers escaping. . WEST AFRICA CW ALERT 7 5/7/8 5 LT ROBBERY 7. S 5. E Clearwater has received a report that robbers were able to board an anchored supply vessel at Pointe Noire Anchorage. Duty crew conducting routine rounds discovered the padlock on the forward rope store had been broken. The alarm was raised and a full search was conducted. No perpetrators were found however it was discovered that a rope had been stolen. CW ALERT /7/8 9 UTC SUSPICIOUS VESSEL 5. N 6. W A report has been received stating that a general cargo vessel was approached by a fishing type vessel approximately forty metres long with a derrick at the stern 6nm south of San Pedro. The alarm was raised and the cargo vessel increased speed and engaged in anti-piracy manoeuvres. After an unspecified time the suspect vessel stopped approaching. . SOUTH EAST ASIA CW ALERT /7/8 LT ROBBERY 9. 7 N 9. E It has been reported that robbers were able to board an anchored bulk carrier at Chittagong Anchorage. Eight robbers armed with knives boarded the vessel using ropes attached to hooks. The perpetrators were able to restrain the duty watchman before making their escape with the bulk carrier's aft mooring ropes. The incident was reported to the local agents. CW ALERT 7 6/7/8 LT ROBBERY 5. N. E CW ALERT The duty crew on board an anchored gas tanker in Batangas anchorage observed an unauthorised person on the forecastle deck. The Duty Officer was informed and the alarm raised. The crew were mustered and a search carried out which confirmed that ships stores were missing. The unauthorised person was not found. Incident reported to local authorities. CW ALERT 7 CW ALERT 8 /7/8 LT ROBBERY 5 8. N 8. E CW ALERT 8 It has been reported that robbery occurred on a berthed tanker at Sandakan Port. Robbers were able to board the tanker, steal items of ship's property and escape unnoticed. Duty crew conducting routine rounds discovered the theft. The incident was reported to the local agents, Port police and the Port Security Officer. The local police boarded the tanker to conduct an investigation. . SOUTH EAST ASIA CW ALERT 9/7/8 9 LT GENERAL ALERT 6 8. 5 N 8. E It has been reported by Philippines intelligence that the Abu Sayef Group are planning to conduct kidnappings off Gulisan Island. It has been stated that the Group are targeting foreign persons and vessels. The report states that the Abu Sayef Group have spotters in the area that will guide other operatives on the water to Gulisan Island as they execute their kidnapping plan. Vessels are advised to take extreme caution. CW ALERT 8 9/7/8 7 LT ROBBERY. N 9. E CW ALERT 8 It has been reported that a robbery occurred on a Panama flagged container ship whilst anchored at Chittagong outer anchorage. The robbers boarded the vessel and stole three mooring ropes. The theft was discovered by the duty crew on routine rounds. The Bangladesh Coast Guard was informed and a patrol boat was sent to search the vicinity. The patrol boat manged to identify the robbers and recover the stolen mooring ropes which were then returned to the vessel. CW ALERT CW ALERT 9 CW ALERT 9 /7/8 6 LT ROBBERY. S 7. 5 E It has been reported that the Duty Officer on board an anchored Bahamas flagged bulk carrier at Muara Berau anchorage observed suspicious activity on the forecastle deck and immediately raised the alarm. The crew made their way forward and discovered a small boat with four persons on board moving away with stolen ships stores. E CW ALERT CW ALERT It has been reported to the UKMTO that a tanker was approached by two white hulled craft, each with four persons onboard, whilst underway 77nm Northeast of Muscat, Oman. The closest point of approach on the vessel was 5m. Both the vessel and crew are reported as safe. CW ALERT 5 /7/8 5 UTC PIRATE ATTACK. N. 6 E CW ALERT 5 It has been reported that a bulk carrier was attacked whilst underway, 6nm Northwest of Mocha. Three white and blue hulled skiffs, each with up to eight persons on board approached the vessel and the occupants opened fire. The Armed Security Team onboard the vessel returned fire, resulting in the skiffs aborting their attack. The vessel and crew are reported safe. CW ALERT /7/8 8 UTC GENERAL ALERT. N 5. E It has been reported that a vessel underway sighted a group of skiffs 9nm west of Mocha, Yemen. One skiff with eight persons embarked approached the vessel to within.nm but did not engage in any aggressive manoeuvres. It was reported by crew members that a ladder was sighted on the skiff. . Indian Ocean CW ALERT /7/8 UTC GENERAL ALERT 6. 9 N. E It has been reported to the UKMTO that a cargo vessel was attacked whilst anchored, nm South of Barawa. The vessel is reported safe and is now in the port of Barawa. No further information is available at this time. Clearwater will continue to investigate and update this alert accordingly. CW ALERT 6 CW ALERT 6 /7/8 UTC GENERAL ALERT 7. N. E The UKMTO has received a report that a vessel has been involved in an incident, 7nm West of Al Hudaydah. UPDATE: Confirmed information has been received stating that the vessel involved was a Saudi flagged, owned and operated tanker which was struck by a projectile resulting in minimal damage.
