P resentation The purpose of this manual is to address the logistical and operational information regarding the signing ceremony of the The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for TransPacific Partnership (CPTPP), which will be held in Santiago, Chile on March 8, 2018. The information contained in this manual is subject to change. All changes will be announced in a timely manner. The ceremony will take place in the Crowne Plaza Hotel, located at Av. 1. Registration 2. Preliminary programme An online registration system will be available from February 8 to March 5 using the following LINK. Thursday 8 March Media outlets that wish to register journalists, camera operators, photographers or other personnel must complete the online form for each individual. The credentials will be available at Crowne Plaza Hotel, Av. Libertador Bernardo O Higgins 136, Santiago, from 8 a.m. on March 8. Credentials must be worn at all times and will be required to access official activities. 5. USEFUL INFORMATION Santiago is Chile s capital city and the country s urban hub. With a population of over 4 million people, it is the biggest and most populated city in Chile. The capital is home to Chile s main administrative, commercial, cultural, financial and government organizations. CURRENCY AND BANKING Chile s national currency is the peso (CLP). One USD is equivalent to approximately 650 Chilean pesos. All Chilean banks exchange dollars and the majority of retail and service establishments accept international credit cards for payments. There are ATMs throughout Chile from which you can withdraw funds, and they available 24 hours a day. Banks and exchange bureaus are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. SHOPPING Shops in Chile accept most major credit cards, such as American Express, Mastercard and Visa. Stores are open Monday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. in shopping centres. Banks and exchange bureaus are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Restaurants are generally open until around 9 p.m. Tipping is optional in Chile, but we recommend a 10% gratuity. CLIMATE Santiago has a Mediterranean climate. The Signing Ceremony is happening during the summer season (summer in Chile is from December to March). During the daytime temperatures can reach 32 C but drop to around 25 C in the mornings and evenings. ELECTRICITY SUPPLY In Chile, the electricity voltage is 220 V/50 Hz. Sockets have three parallel holes (CEI 23-16). TIME ZONE Chile s time zone is GMT-3. TELEPHONE CODES The international code for dialling Chile is 56. The area code for Santiago is 2. To make international calls to Santiago, you should dial +56 2 and the local number. To call a mobile phone, you should dial +56 9 and the mobile phone number. Telephone numbers have 9 digits. LANGUAGE Chile s official language is Spanish. English is also spoken in most hotels. HEALTH You do not need vaccinations or medical tests to visit Chile. The drinking water is good quality and can be consumed. However, we recommend you drink bottled water during the first few days of your visit. Should you need medical attention, we suggest going to Clínica Indisa or Clínica Santa María as they are near to the conference centre. You will be responsible for your own medical bills so we recommend having an international health insurance.
