INTER-DISCIPLINARY PROJECT THEME: International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development CLASS VIII Inter-disciplinary Project: It is a knowledge view and curriculum approach that consciously applies methodology and language from more than one discipline to examine a central theme, topic, issue, problem or work. Through an interdisciplinary approach, students can make connections between disciplines and see the correlations, which improve their overall learning. The goal of inter-disciplinary approach is to give students a more relevant, less-fragmented and stimulating experience by enhancing a student s education to encourage life-long experience. The United Nations has proclaimed 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, in recognition of the tremendous potential of the tourism industry, to contribute to the fight against poverty and foster mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue. In designating 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, the United Nations General Assembly noted the importance of international tourism in fostering better understanding among peoples everywhere, in leading to a greater awareness of the rich heritage of various civilizations, thereby contributing to the strengthening of peace in the world. A sustainable approach to tourism means that neither the natural environment nor the socio-cultural fabric of the host communities will be impaired by the arrival of tourists. On the contrary, the natural environment and the local communities should benefit from tourism, both economically and culturally. A journey is the ultimate truth of life. As we travel from the realms of the known to the helms of the unknown, we realize that it is the journey that matters, not the destination. The desire and hunger for knowledge always make us yearn to travel. The activities have been designed as part of holistic approach to help children unleash the power of their creative imagination and expression. We wish that our students not only enjoy their vacations filled with fun and frolic, at the same time consistently pursue their academic and co-curricular endeavors. This project comprises of 6 parts A, B, C, D, E and F The class will be divided into groups comprising 5 members each on the basis of roll numbers i.e., 1-5, 6-10, etc. (8 groups per class) Each group is expected to do all the 5 tasks given under each part(one task per child for each part) Each group will have a leader who will be coordinating with the group members, so that the work is completed and submitted on time Each group will collate and present their work in one single file only Make use of eco-friendly materials for preparing the models Students can avail the internet facility at school(8am-12noon) from 20 th may to 27 th may 2017(except Saturday & Sunday)
