The Canopy by Hilton The Canopy by Hilton opened in the beginning of July 2016. It is located right in the heart of Iceland s vibrant capital Reykjavik. PACKAGE 1 SATURDAY: GOLDEN CIRCLE SUPER JEEP TOUR You are picked up from your hotel and taken to Þingvellir national park, where the Icelandic parliament, was established in 930, making it the world s oldest functioning legislative body. Þingvellir is also where the North Atlantic Rift, which separates the North American and European continents. The rift offers a veritable no-man sland inside the Almannagjá ravine, having one side on the North American continent and the other on the European. From Þingvellir you are taken to the geothermal area of Haukadalur with the famed Geysir the original Geyser hot spring or its ever-reliable counterpart, Strokkur. Strokkur erupts roughly every 8 minutes, so an eruption is guaranteed. There will be plenty of time to explore the bubbling mud pots and other geological phenomena around the area. After lunch at the Geysir Centre, you will be taken to the stunning two-tiered Gullfoss waterfall. The great white glacial cascade drops 32 meters into a 70-meter deep canyon; Gullfoss is considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island and has been called Iceland s star attraction by many. From Gullfoss, the super-jeep takes you through the interior to Langjökull glacier, Europe s secondlargest, where you will be shown the icy scenery by your guide on the 4X4 super-jeep. PACKAGE 2 SATURDAY- FROZEN WEST SUPER JEEP TOUR WITH INSIDE THE GLACIER The day begins with a drive along a dramatic highlands road leading to the bleak and hauntingly beautiful Kaldidalur valley and Langjökull glacier, the second largest in Iceland. At Langjökull, you ll have the opportunity to venture Into the Glacier via a fascinating man-made tunnel deep into the ice. Here you will learn about the glacier and witness amazing blue ice formations, an experience that very few in the world have had.(weather dependent) The tour continues toward Borgarfjörður and the enchanting Hraunafossar and Barnafoss waterfalls. We will also stop at Reykholt, home of Iceland s greatest saga writer Snorri Sturluson, to delve into Iceland s rich literary heritage. On route to Hvalfjörður we ll stop in Deildartunguhver, Europe s most powerful geothermal spring. Once in Hvalfjörður [Whale Fjord] you ll see reminders of British presence in the area during World War II and see the small whaling factory in the fjord. Hvalfjörður is oft considered one of the most beautiful areas in the country, so the stunning scenery will be a highlight of this part of the day. PACKAGE 3 SATURDAY- SOUTH COAST TOUR WITH LUNCH IN A SUPER JEEP Today s tour takes you to Gigjökull which is a glacierfall from Eyjafjallajökull. From Gigjökull the melted ice from the eruption at Eyjafjallajökull came bursting down and created a destructive flood on its way to sea. From Gigjökull and the destruction of the eruption we continue our tour to the beautiful Seljalandsfoss where the surefooted can walk behind the cascade. On the way we will explore a spectacular hidden canyon with a unique flora, green moss walls and a beautiful waterfall. Now we will stop for an Icelandic picnic (included). After picnic the tour takes us through areas where no normal vehicle can go, travel through areas which were badly hit by ashfall in the beginning of the eruption and drive across glacial rivers on our journey to be able to view the eruption site. Now its the Atlantic ocean with vast panoramic views.
