Due to getting stuck in some long lines, AND the fact that the buses left ahead of schedule, my wife and I had to drive ourselves to the layouts. They had a list of addresses and GPS got us to the first one, then we just followed the bus. Unfortunately, I didn t keep the paper, didn t write down the names of the modelers whose layouts we visited and I can t find anything on the web. My apologies to those modelers and to you readers. This is something different! On display at the Swap-A-Rama and at other times during the Convention were a number of small layouts created by young kids. These layouts showed amazing imagination and creativity. Basically, it is on piece of N scale flex track formed into a circle to fit into a pizza box. Then the girls and boys, mostly of early to mid elementary school age, develop and build the scenery for their layout. As this is an ongoing project for the kids, their layouts are at different stages of construction. Most of the scenery represents the area that they know, UTAH.

From the Yard Office Hope you all are having a great summer and still getting to enjoy our wonderful hobby. I want to give you an update on a few things that are in the near future for our Division s members. IMPORTANT NOTICE: We have cancelled and will reschedule the Capital Division Summer Layout Tour originally scheduled for this Saturday, August 18 th, due to a lack of member participation. I apologize for the multiple changes in the layout tour dates that you have seen in the last few days. We have decided that with the Convention only a short time away, that it would be better for all concerned if we hold off on the tour until after the Convention. With that in mind, we are looking at the latter part of October which will give us cooler weather and a more enjoyable cookout. Bill and Terry Neale will still be hosting the cookout and your spouse or significant other is more than welcome to join us. More information on the Layout Tour will be coming in the next couple of weeks. We hope you can all make it and enjoy the day. The Lansing Lashup, the North Central Region Convention which is being hosted by our Capital Division and our members is almost upon us. Your Convention Committee is working very hard and have a great convention planned for our fellow model railroaders in the North Central Region to enjoy. We are in need of more of our Division members stepping forward to help us present the Convention October 11 th to 14 th. We are still waiting to hear from you (Uncle Andy is pointing a finger at YOU!) Please contact me to offer your assistance. If more people will step up, it makes the load much lighter for everyone. If you haven t signed up for the Convention yet, please consider doing so. You will really enjoy the activities, clinics and layouts that we have planned for the 4 days. Saturday evening s dinner will be very enjoyable with a great guest speaker after. For those that would like to join us for the last few planning meetings before the Convention, we meet at the Meridian Twp. Fire Station on Okemos Road just north of Grand River Ave. The meetings always start at 7:00PM and are usually done before 9:00PM. These are the dates for the last three meetings before the Convention. August 20 th, September 10 th, and September 24 th. September is almost upon us and the first Capital Division Meeting will be shortly thereafter. John Bussard has graciously offered to host our September meeting and along with opening his wonderful layout for our first layout tour of the season, John will be presenting a clinic on airbrush painting. More on that in the next Journal. I am always interested in any thoughts that our members may have for clinics, layout tours and any other activities that we can do during our monthly Saturday meetings. I want to make sure that I am finding things that interest everyone, not just me! Feel free to email or call me with your thoughts and suggestions. Hunter48820@yahoo.com (517-316-5660) Looking forward to seeing your smiling faces in the near future! Best, Andy
