COMMUNITY POLICING Recently there have been a number of thefts of garden ornaments in and around the area, Dorset Police advise that people revise their security and consider alarms where appropriate. It could also prove beneficial to photograph ornaments and utilise asset marking. As the summer is approaching and the increase of events such as the queen s jubilee, street parties and carnivals, Dorset Police would like to advise you that as of the 1 st of April we no longer provide cones for public events, such requests will now be processed by Dorset County Council Highways department. Please report any suspicious activity/incidents on the nonemergency number 101. PSO Paul Miners, Beaminster Safer Neighbourhood Team.

UPDATE ON THE BELLS All is going according to plan. The builder from the bell founders has started the masonry work needed to support the new frame, and the bell frame will be fitted towards the end of May. Then the bells will be rehung and the rope guide and ropes installed. There may be delays in entering and leaving North Road at this time as there will be large vehicles there unloading the frame and bells, much as there was when the bells were taken down. We aplogise for any inconvenience, but it is necessary, in order to get the bells ringing again. The bells should be ringing again by the 15th June. The protective casing round the clock will then be removed and the clock will be restarted. Thank you all for your support. CHIDEOCK WI Regular readers of this column will have noticed that the WI do a lot of celebrating. The May meeting was no exception as it was the Chideock Branch s 93 rd birthday. Most celebrations involve eating and drinking, so members arrived to tables laden with sandwiches, cakes and other goodies, ensuring that you are unlikely to find many size 8-10s amongst the membership. Pat Bowditch had once again done a wonderful job decorating the birthday cake. Shirley Lambert welcomed visitors from Blackdown, Whitchurch and Morcombelake Branches and guests Diana Swann, Barbara Arnold and Jeanettte Smith from Chideock village. Our guest and speaker Colin Vardell is a well known local photographer of the Dorset landscape who had developed his own Dorset wildlife Eden in his garden and on the adjoining 5 acres of open land. The images of emerging Dragonflies, bull frogs in their pond habitats, varieties of native birds and mammals were superb. The background to all this was the beauty of Dorset woodland, fields and wildflowers. We saw only a fraction of the last 30years of Colin s work, so are hoping that he can be persuaded to join us to share a little more at a future meeting. Overall Competition winners for the year were: Flower of the month 1 st Evelina Malyon 2 nd Marion Warburton. General Competition 1 st Val Rivers 2 nd Pauline Taylor Dates for the diary are: June: The Craft group will continue to meet at Val Rivers house. CHIDEOCK SOCIETY REPORT By the time you read this we will have had our visit to West Bay to meet the Gig Racing Team. They have recently taken part in the 3 day Gig Racing World Championships in the Scilly Isles and the teams have been very successful in several of the events. It is really good to see them rowing between West Bay and Lyme Regis, their speed is extraordinary considering how heavy the boats are. Next event - June - Date to be Confirmed. This is a Field Trip led by Professor Denys Brunsden. Unfortunately the trip to Dartmoor cannot take place this month, but instead Denys has offered a guided walk around the Isle of Portland. If you haven't already explored the abandoned quarries teeming with rare wild flowers and butterflies or seen the 129,000 years old raised beach don't miss this opportunity to learn some of the amazing history of this extraordinary island which is on our doorstep. You won't gaze at its' outline in the same way again after this trip. We might also have a preview of all the preparations for the Olympics. Whooppeee!... We hear you shout! To book a place and for details of leaving time, travel costs etc. please call a Committee member. Phone numbers on the front cover of this magazine. The Jubilee. The committee are helping with the Jubilee celebrations and have made a contribution towards a gift to commemorate the event for Chideock children. We have joined with the Parish Council to buy a china mug with the 1952 image of the Queen on one side and a 2012 image on the other. The mugs will be given out during the Children's Party on Saturday afternoon June 2nd. The gift is for children who live in the Parish of Chideock and are 16 years or under on June 5th 2012. To make sure of your gift, please give childrens' names to the Clerk of the Parish Council on 01308 426327.a.s.a.p. Tree Project including planting a Jubilee Oak. No further details as yet, but we hope to order the tree pack by the end of June. Thanks to all those families who have offered to help with the planting and maintenance in the Autumn. If you would also like to be involved, please call Kate Geraghty on 01297 489422.

Chideock Parish Council News Annual Village Meeting. The Parish Council hosted the Annual Chideock Village Meeting on 1 May. Refreshments were served from 7:00pm and the meeting started at 7:30pm. It was attended by 28 residents, 3 Parish Councillors, the Parish Clerk, and the Rev. Skinner. Ms Jo Witherden, WDDC, gave an interesting and informative presentation on Localism and Neighbourhood Plans and answered questions from residents. If anyone would like a copy of her presentation, please contact the Clerk. Copies sent by e-mail are free, but a small charge (in postage stamps) will be made for a printed copy. Reports and updates were given by the Parish Council Chair and Clerk and a report from Councillor Brierley was read out by the Chair. Representatives of 14 village groups / organisations gave reports and updates on their activities over the past 12 months and for the coming year. Tony Fuller spoke in the Open Forum about his effort to raise funds for the Chideock News and his plans to invite a Dutch choir to Chideock, with the members staying with host families. We thank the Chideock Society for once again providing the excellent refreshments. Pedestrian / vehicle conflict on bridleways and unpaved lanes. Chideock Parish Council (continued) which were overhanging the margins of the Playing Field.
