Photo: Mike Hockley TRAIL RIVRFRONT CNTR Trail s hub for learning, culture & information The Trail Riverfront Centre was packed with excitement and pride from the 500 people who attended the Grand Opening event on Monday, April 2nd. Smiles couldn t be wiped off faces as guests toured the new facility filled with beautifully displayed exhibits, stacked book shelves, and interactive learning tools-a-plenty. The day s fun continued outside with free burgers and refreshments, served by the Trail Ambassadors. Thank you Trail, for sharing this important day with us and for supporting the project over the years. Donors and sponsors were recognized during a special event on Friday, April 6th. The Royal BC Museum has unearthed powerful material about the Great War (the First World War), creating a travelling exhibition that has set up camp in the new Trail Museum & Archives at the Riverfront Centre. This smaller version of the larger travelling exhibition, called British Columbia s War, 1914 1918, and which aims to educate British Columbians about the contributions of their forebears in the First World War, is on exhibit at the Trail Museum & Archives in Trail from April to Mid-June. Who will wear the crown? The 7-month Trail Ambassador Programme, which is designed to enrich and enhance the lives of young women by teaching life skills, concludes * at the annual Miss Trail Pageant when Miss Trail and Trail s Princess are chosen. Playbox at Gyro Park Trail Parks and Recreation is getting ready to install the City of Trail s first Live 5-2-1-0 Playbox at Gyro Park this summer. What is a Live 5-2-1-0 Playbox, you ask? These playboxes, which are starting to pop up at several municipal parks across British Columbia, are permanently installed boxes full of activity equipment for everyone to enjoy, at no cost. Simply follow the steps indicated on the box to access and replace the contents inside. Trail Skate (ALL WHL) Park Project, Gyro Park Construction of the Trail Skate (All Wheel) Park Project will begin this summer! Newline Skateparks Inc., an organization that has been working with the City of Trail for many years to help make this project a reality, has been awarded the contract to build the park. Newline is gearing up to start construction in early July with the goal of completing the project by late September. Trail Memorial Centre Arena Roof Replacement MAD POSSIBL BY TH FDRAL GAS TAX FUND The City of Trail was extremely fortunate to receive $1.16 million in funding from the Gas Tax Strategic Priorities Fund to support the Trail Memorial Centre Arena Roof Replacement Project. The project involves rehabilitation and replacement of the roof over the and includes a full replacement of the arena s 40,170 sq.ft. roof system, the installation of a low emissivity ceiling and new halide lights, asbestos removal in the current roof glue and cement board, project management, federal project signage, and a 15% project contingency. The project is expected to start this spring with an estimated completion date of summer 2018. page 8 With a budget of $700,000, this project is made possible by the fundraising efforts of the Society for the Friends of the Trail Skatepark with contributions of $72,000 and $10,000 of in-kind services, a Columbia Basin Trust Infrastructure grant of $150,000, a $30,000 donation by the Murphy Foundation, and $448,000 of funding from the City of Trail. The new park will be built next to the existing Boat Launch Parking Lot at Gyro Park, and will consist of rails, ledges, walls, pipes and a spectator seating area. Lower Sunningdale Court CONVRSION PROJCT The Lower Sunningdale Tennis Courts will soon become a multi-sport space supporting several recreational activities such as basketball, tennis, pickleball, and street hockey. A permanent Live 5-2-1-0 Playbox, which will house the various pieces of recreation equipment specific to this park, will be installed to ensure everyone can participate. Converting this old court, that is well passed its useful life, into a multi-sport space will ensure this recreation amenity will be able to meet the various and changing recreational interests of the community while encouraging the benefits of unstructured play in the outdoors. With a budget of $66,500, funding for this project is supported by a CBT Recreation Infrastructure grant of $32,500 and $34,000 from the City of Trail.
