HISTORICAL SKETCH This ongoing collection of images offers visual documentation of an important period in Mexican history. It is an artificial collection, with photographs drawn from various sources (See Provenance below). SCOPE AND CONTENT Includes original photo postcards, negatives, copy prints, half-tone prints pertaining to the Mexican Revolution. The majority of the images are copy prints, which are often duplicated within the collection, and some replicate images from separate sources. Many of the copies are from the Texas State Library s W.D. Hornaday Collection. A smaller group of images donated by Mrs. Polly Callum are of very good quality and contain postcards by photographer D.W. Hoffman. The collection also includes a group of original, large-format nitrate negatives by an unknown photographer. They are of professional quality and document some of the revolutionary activity in the El Paso/Ciudad Juárez area in 1910-1911. In addition, the Mexican Revolution Photograph Collection contains copy prints of movie stills with captions. A few copy prints show movie posters about Pancho Villa. Titles of these movies include Pancho Villa, La Venganza del Guerrillero!!, Pancho Villa en Columbus, El Reino del Terror and La Venganza de Pancho Villa staring Doroteo Arango-Pancho Villa himself. These cinematic images are an important resource for the study of cine Mexicano and the Mexican Revolution. ORGANIZATION This collection is organized into five series: I. It also photos of Mexican Federales, canon artillery, military camps, battle scenes, and other related topics. The second sub-series includes a small group of Revolution related images donated by El Paso historian W. H. Timmons. This series concludes with a small group of photos of landscapes and ruins near Casas Grandes in northern Chihuahua.
