PREFACE: India Home Furnishing Fair, organized by India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) at Osaka, Japan is an ideal showcase for Home Textiles and is organized along with Indian Garment Fair to form Japan s largest comprehensive exhibition of Home Furnishings and Garments. This year is the 24 th year for India Home Furnishing fair and 34 th year for India Garment Fair. Handloom Export Promotion Council has been participating more than ten years in this fair. In this 24 th edition, HEPC had participated with 18 member exporters by taking constructed booth area of 192 sq. metres and HEPC had put up central pavilion stall in the fair. The fair was organized with the financial assistance under the Comprehensive Handloom Development scheme of DC (Handloom), offering maximum discount in participation fee for our member exporters and providing travel grant of Rs 50000 per participant. INDO - JAPAN TRADE: Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed in 2011 between India and Japan focused mainly to liberalise and facilitate trade in goods and services, to increase investment opportunities and strengthen protection for investments and investment activities to improve business environment between the two countries. As per CEPA, the tariffs have been scheduled for elimination by 90 % on Indian and 97 % on Japanese goods over the next ten years. The trade volume of the two countries has been increasing steadily. The import from Japan to India has expanded to 12.5 billion USD in the fiscal year 2012, 1.6 times bigger than that of 5 years ago. The export from India to Japan was 6.1 billion USD, which has expanded by two times during the same period. The trade between India and Japan is likely to touch $25 billion by 2014 on the back of a trade deal that the two countries signed in 2011. Export of Handloom products to Japan have increased significantly after CEPA. There was an increase in handloom export by 139.98% during the year 2011-12 over the period of 2010-11 and an increase of 25% during the year 2012-13 over the period of 2011-12. Out of top 10 countries where handloom exports are made, Japan is placed at 7 th during the year 2012-13 accounting export to the tune of Rs 76.35 Crores. 2

This year, total space of around 3800 square metres had been taken in 3 rd and 2 nd floor of Mydome. 24 th India Home Furnishing Fair is organized for three days from 24 th to 26 th July 2013 at Mydome, Osaka, Japan. On 23 rd evening, ITPO organized a get together meeting with participants. ITPO s Chairperson and Managing Director Ms. Rita Menon, I.A.S., The Consul General of India, Osaka, Mr. Vikas Swarup and Senior Executive Director, Osaka Foundation for Trade & Industry Mr. Kenji TOYOOKA addressed the gathering of participants. Awards for previous year winners of best stall were presented to the winners. ITPO recognized the long association of HEPC as co-associate for the fair, presented an award to Council. The Consul General of India, Osaka, Mr. Vikas Swarup presented the award to HEPC. ITPO requested council to continue the support for the forthcoming years. Mr. Horoki Matsumoto, Jetro Osaka Director General After the inauguration, CMD of ITPO and Counsel General of India visited the stalls and they visited HEPC central promotional stall and other member stalls in 2 nd and 3 rd Floors. Till last edition, ITPO took space only in the third floor and this time they had extended the fair to second floor also totaling 3800 square metres of space. Theme pavilion for Home Furnishing and Garments were constructed at second floor. Six booths had been allocated to National awardees of Handicrafts and they participated through The Office of DC (Handicrafts). 15 HEPC participants were accommodated in 3 rd floor and 4 including HEPC pavilion on 2 nd floor. The following 18 member exporters participated in this fair and exhibited their complete range of home textile products and fashion accessories. PRODUCTS SHOWCASE: The product display showcased by our member exporters reflected various design concepts. The members showcased the entire range of home textiles of exotic styles and craftsmanship. Carpets and Floor coverings from Panipat, Made up articles of Table linen, Bed linen, Kitchen linen from Karur, Stoles, Bath linen, Window fashion and accessories, attracted the buyers. Members Exporters got enquiries for products Viz. Table linen, Kitchen linen, Bed linen, Cushion cover, Carpets, Floor Coverings, Bath Linen, Bags, Stoles, Scarves, Shawls, Wall hangings. One of the Council participants M/s Fashion Folio, New Delhi got award for best stall for this year. PARTICIPANTS FEEDBACK: In 2012: The members had reported Rs 1.59 Crores worth of spot orders and Rs 3.42 Crores worth of enquiries. In 2013: 369 visitors visited the HEPC member stalls and booked Rs 1.88 Crores worth of spot orders and generated Rs 4.34 Crores worth of business enquiries at this fair. HEPC member participants stall are visited by the buyers from mainly from Japan. Few buyers from Taiwan and South Korea visited the fair. The overall turnout of the buyers is rated as Good and Quality of buyers is rated as Good by the participants. Most of the participants expressed that the fair provided an opportunity to enter into Japan market. All the participants expressed willingness to participate the same fair next year through council. As a preparatory process, Council obtained Home Textiles buyers list from Consulate General of India, Osaka and faxed to all the buyers regarding the fair and invited them to visit the stalls. Council had put up central promotional stall and displayed posters and distributed catalogues. Registration for India International Hand woven Fair 2014 had been arranged and 42 foreign buyers were mobilized during the three days fair. One of the IIHF 2013 edition buyers Ms. Eri Kohsaka visited council stall and appreciated council s IIHF fair and registered herself for the 4 th edition. New membership applications were issued to six exporters who participated the fair directly. Calendar of events for 2013-14 were discussed with the council participants and sought their interest for Canada, Heimtextil, Macef, Australia fairs. Council s official had a meeting with ITPO and discussed various issues pertaining to stand location, stand construction and other promotional activities. There were less number of stalls at the second floor and the buyer s foot fall was low at the second floor, which were brought to the knowledge of ITPO. Mr. Muhammad Naseer, Consul of Pakistan visited council stall. Mr M.C.Gupta visited the fair on all the days, interacted with the member exporters and ITPO officials. Council was represented by Mr. K.Veluchamy, Business Promotion Officer. 5
