There were fourteen foot beat patrol officers covering Fisherman s Wharf, North Beach, Chinatown, Union Square and the Market/Financial District areas, when I first arrived at Central Station in March of this year. As of Saturday, September 9 th, there are twenty-eight foot beat officers. This change is part of Chief William Scott and the San Francisco Police Department s overall crime reduction strategy. The data clearly shows that the presence of our uniformed personnel acts as a deterrent to crime. A more visible presence also provides the public with an increased sense of security and more opportunities to work with law enforcement to prevent crime, said Chief Scott. 3 Page 3 Each month features one of its officers in an effort to learn more about the men and women who police our neighborhood. This month, we interviewed Officer Christopher Sabella, a 1-year member of. Officer Sabella is a 5 th generation born and raised San Franciscan. He grew up on Mt. Davidson, west of Twin Peaks. Officer Sabella graduated high school at Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep and graduated from City College of San Francisco with an Associate s Degree in Criminal Justice. Officer Sabella joined the San Francisco Police Department in May 2014. After graduating from the Police Academy, he was assigned to Ingleside Station for his field training station. After completing field training, he was assigned to Northern Station for his probation station. After probation in May 2016, he was assigned to Central Station for his permanent assignment. Officer Sabella is the Fisherman s Wharf Beat Officer for Central Station and is Crisis Intervention Trained. Officer Sabella thinks the culture and history of Central District is amazing. I like working on some of the oldest streets of San Francisco. The people who live and work in this district are always ready for a good conversation and very welcoming. As a child, I used to go down to The Wharf and help in the back of my family s old restaurant, A Sabella s. I have been able to reconnect with my family s history, all originating on The Wharf and bring back my family to a neighborhood that my family has been a part of since 1880 s.

An unknown suspect entered the victim s apartment and stole a TV. An unknown suspect pried open the tool storage and stole property. An unknown suspect entered the victims hotel room and stole property. It is unknown how the suspect gain entry to the room. An unknown suspect broke into the gym locker and stole the victim s property. An unknown suspect stole a package from the mailroom of the apartment complex. An unknown suspect removed the plywood board used to cover a previous shattered glass and stole property. The victim heard noises coming from the garage and ran to the garage. The victim found that his vehicle and neighbor s vehicle were open. The victim opened the door to his workshop and found the suspect inside. The victim detained the suspect till police arrived. Arrest made. Aggravated Assault Assault An unlawful attempt, coupled with the present ability, to commit a violent injury on another person. 9/7 4:00am Aggravated Assault, With Other Weapon 600 BLK of Market 9/8 9:10pm Aggravated Assault, With Force Embarcadero/Beach 9/8 10:17pm Aggravated Assault, With Other Weapon 200 BLK of Sansome An unknown suspect told the victim to move so he can panhandle where the victim was standing. The victim refused to move and the suspect tried to hit the victim with a stick. The victim was able to disarm the suspect with the stick. The suspect returned with a metal pipe and struck the victim in the ribs. As the victim and an unknown suspect walked past each other, their shoulders hit. The suspect apologized, but another suspect used foul language and called the victim a name. The victim confronted the suspects. The suspects approached the two victims and punched and kicked them. An unknown suspect was bothering the victim s customer while holding a stick outside of the victim s store. The suspect tried to go inside the store. When confronted by the victim to leave, the suspect struck the victim with the yard stick and fled the scene. Robbery Robbery Robbery is the taking of property from another by using force or by using fear. 9/2 4:28pm Robbery, Commercial, With Knife 900 BLK of Grant 9/3 8:25pm Robbery, With Force 300 BLK of Market An unknown suspect entered the store and stole merchandise. The victim approached the suspect and demanded the return of the merchandise. A second suspect pushed the victim and pulled out a knife. Fearing for his safety, the victim let the suspects go. An unknown suspect pulled the victim s cell phone from the victim s hand. The victim chased the suspect and was punched by a second suspect. The victim continued to chase after the suspect, but was stopped by a third suspect. The suspects fled away with three other suspects.

The suspects fled away. The suspect entered the store and stole merchandise. Security tried to retrieve the property, but the suspect pinched the victim and scratched her on the cheek. Arrest made. An unknown suspect was parked in a loading zone and refused to move when the victim asked him to. The suspect saw the victim take a picture of his license plate. The suspect got out of the vehicle and grabbed the victim s cell phone, but the victim held on to the phone. The suspect let go and punched the victim in the stomach. An unknown suspect pulled on the victim s ponytail. When the victim turned around, there were three suspects. The victim fought with the suspects and when wrestled to the ground, one of the suspects took her wallet from her pants. The suspects fled the scene. The suspect followed the victim to the bus stop. As the victim was about to board the bus, the suspect hit her on the upper back and knocked her to the ground. The suspect pulled the victim s purse away from her and fled. With the help of witnesses, the suspect was detained till police arrived. Arrest made. Two unknown suspects asked to take a picture with the victim. The victim stopped walking and agreed to take the picture. The victim realized one of the suspect took his wallet from his back pocket and the other suspect pulled out a knife. One of the suspects punched the victim in the stomach and the suspects fled. An unknown suspect approached the victim from behind, pointed a knife to his neck and demanded property. Fearing for his safety, the victim gave the suspect his wallet. The suspect fled the scene. Four unknown suspects entered the store and stole sunglasses. The employee tried to stop the suspects at the door, but the suspects pushed the employee and fled. The suspect entered the store and stole merchandise. The suspect was approached by security outside of the store, but she struggled with security. With backup, the suspect was detained. Arrest made. 11 Page 11 Incidents of Note MALICIOUS MISCHIEF, BREAKING WINDOWS 700 BLK of Broadway 09/04/17, 04:33 A witness saw and heard the suspect kicking a window. The window belonged to an elderly housing care apartment complex. The witness provided a thorough description of the suspect and officers were able to locate and detain the suspect swiftly. The suspect damaged windows that were estimated to be valued over $1000 dollars. The suspect was questioned by officers and the suspect confessed to the crime. The suspect was booked in County Jail for felony vandalism. METHAMPHETAMINE OFFENCE/ NARCOTICS PARAPHERNALIA, POSSESSION/ FALSE IDENTIFICATION TO POLICE OFFICER/ WARRANT LOCAL Hyde/Francisco 09/04/17, 19:56 Officers were walking a proactive patrol beat in Russian Hill Park. Officers observed two suspects in the bushes of the park. Once detained, one suspect provided officers with numerous names in attempt to evade a warrant for his arrest. A search of this suspect revealed a methamphetamine pipe and usable amounts of methamphetamine. A search of the other suspect also revealed a methamphetamine glass pipe and a usable amount of methamphetamine. The suspect was booked into to County Jail for identification processing and narcotics offenses. The second suspect was booked into County Jail for his warrant and narcotics offenses.
