Hello Friends, I am excited about the summer programs our dedicated CRM staff has planned for 2014, and am confident as you browse this brochure, you will find something that excites you as well. The Upper New York Camp & Retreat Centers, which stretch across New York State, offer a safe environment for kids and a wide variety of activities where campers live in community in a way that encourages Christian birth, growth and renewal. Campers will make new friends, learn something new, experience Christian community, learn more about their relationship with God, and have fun doing it. G N I M R O F S TRAN LIVES camp & r etr ea t mi ni s tr i es A Ministry of The Upper NY Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church aldersgate aldersgateny.org As a former camper, I spent time around a campfire, made crafts, hiked, learned to build and fly hot air balloons, and swam in a lake for the first time. As a teenager, I played my guitar and sang a solo in front of my peers for the first time. I know that an experience at camp changes a life forever. Now as a camper parent, I understand the trust it takes to leave my child in the care of others. Sending your children to a fun-filled, life changing week (or weeks) at summer camp is an investment in their lives. AND if you are one of those adults who tell us they wish they could still attend camp, check out our Family Programs and special Retreat Offerings at each of the camp & retreat centers throughout the year. Training for volunteers will take place June 6-7 at Sky Lake. JOIN US IN PRAYER We invite you to join us in the powerful ministry of prayer this summer. Set aside some time every Sunday evening at 7:30 to light a candle and pray for all those at camp that week. Your continuing prayers throughout the week are appreciated too!

If your idea of a fun time at camp involves relaxing, staying up late, sleeping in a couple days, having ice cream and French toast for breakfast, and going about the week at a leisurely pace, look no further! Unplugged is about doing just that unplugging from all the distractions in our lives and plugging into having a great time growing in faith with new and old friends. Underwood Lodge June 29-July 4 Fishing (grades 3-5) Do you love to fish? Do you really enjoy when Jesus talks about fishing in the Bible? If so, this is the camp for you! You ll learn about a variety of fishing methods, work on your casting techniques (especially important considering our lake is surrounded by trees), make your own lure, and even have a couple opportunities to go fishing. And, no, you won t get to spend your entire time fishing after all, there s ice cream to be made and sleepouts to go on! Fishing camp is open to both girls and boys. West Shore Special Needs Camp, Session One See page 9 for description. 3 Try Camp (grades Kindergarten-4) Not quite ready for an entire week at camp, but want the sleep-away experience? Then give Try Camp a spin. Make new friends, learn more about Jesus, and sample some of the best stuff Sky Lake has to offer. SNAP (Special Needs Assistant Personnel) Training (grades 9-12) Our Special Needs programs rely heavily upon the teenage volunteers we call SNAPs. As a SNAP, you ll extend a stable arm to a camper walking in the woods, you ll row campers around in a boat, you ll help campers carry trays full of delicious food, you ll read stories, you ll laugh, you ll cry, you ll leap tall buildings in a single bound (okay, you won t leap any buildings but you WILL help campers break barriers!) After mandatory training (June 7-8), SNAPs may return, at no additional cost, to help with as many Special Needs Camps as space allows. As a side note: many past and present SNAPs have been able to use their volunteer hours to fulfill academic requirements. July 6-11 KY LAK W E E K T H R E E / W E E K F OUR 4 WEEK THREE July 13-18 Jam (grades 6-8) Music (grades 5-12) Music Camp is more than just singing in choir, playing in band, or trying your hand at bells or chimes. It s about having fun with a bunch of other Christian youth that are as passionate about music as you are. It s about the opportunity to increase your musical abilities. It s about the opportunity to deepen your faith by making a joyful noise to the Lord. It s about being part of an ensemble where you matter more than your musical abilities. The week concludes with both shores combining for a truly magnificent concert on the East Shore Patio on Friday at 6:30pm. Music East (grades 8-12) East Shore Music West (grades 5-7) West Shore Cabins Refer a friend and WEEK FOUR $540 $490 $440 $540 $490 $440 Really, how much awesomeness can we jam into a week of camp? Well, you ll need to come find out for yourself! From improv comedy tutorials to our very own high stakes Bible trivia to learning a few karate moves, you ll be able to choose from a rotating variety of exciting (if not downright wacky) activities each day. Be sure to get lots of sleep before arrival, cause you re gonna need it to keep up with this fast-pace camp! West Shore Cabins Special Needs Camp, Session Two See page 9 for description. save $25! NEW! Nova is Latin for new and that s just what you ll experience at this camp a fun, new way to explore science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (or STEM for short!) Prepare to: get muddy as we study the inlet and outlet of Sky Lake, stay up late to observe the night sky, construct a raft from scratch, and more. And don t worry, there won t be a test at the end of the week! East Shore Aquasphere! (grades 3-5) July 27-August 1 $540 $490 $440 NEW! Do you enjoy swimming and boating? If so, you ll love this camp. Most of your days will revolve about being in, on, or near the lake itself, where you can work on your belly flop or other swimming skills, paddle around in a canoe or kayak, or enjoy Bible study on the beach! And when you re not pretending to be a fish, you ll have time to hike, make crafts, cookout, and more. Rendez-vous (grades 9-12) Imagine a camp that mixes together the laidback qualities of Unplugged with the outdoorsy qualities of Outpost. Luckily you don t have to imagine any further. Rendez-vous (French for gathering ) is perfect for those who like to spend all day outside, but still sleep in a comfortable bed. You ll learn how to build a matchless fire, identify some of the trees around Sky Lake, construct a no-impact fort in the woods, and more. Oh and did we mention that you ll also have the opportunity to go geocaching? Please note that the ability to speak French is not a requirement, but as this is a physically rigorous camp sturdy hiking boots are. Underwood lodge Limit:20 Classic Elementary (grades 3-5) Sleuth (grades 3-5) Something s afoot at Sky Lake and Harvey Flodhästen (who thinks his last name, The Hippo, sounds way more mysterious in Swedish) hopes you ll join him in getting to the bottom of this mystery. Harvey s only begun the investigation, but he already knows that this camp is going to be a lot of fun; that there ll be numerous mysteries to solve each day; that you ll need to keep a sharp lookout for clues at all times; and that you ll need to come up with a super-awesome sleuth name. West Shore Cabins Voyageurs (grades 4-6) Voyageur literally means traveler in French. Like the early fur traders from whom this program draws its name, you ll spend a lot of time in the woods and in canoes on the water. As you travel through the week, you ll learn more about God s awesome Creation and build some useful outdoor skills that are apt to come in handy when your group builds a fort in the woods. Please note that the ability to speak French is not a requirement, but as this is a physically rigorous program sturdy hiking boots are. West Shore Cabins If you love performing, then this is the camp for you! Spend the week learning firsthand what it takes to produce and perform various styles of drama. You ll have a blast creating your own props and scenery, practicing lines, and doing all the regular Sky Lake stuff too! Camp concludes with a performance for family and friends on Friday at 7:00 pm in Founders Lodge. Not just any program gets to call itself classic. Like our other two Classic Programs (Junior High and Senior High) Classic Elementary is all about offering you a tried and true program that draws on over sixty years of experience. Think of this as the buffet of camps you ll get to sample a little bit of all that Sky Lake has to offer: whether it s learning how to lash a table in the woods (or even what lashing is!), getting up early for a polar bear swim, concocting a brand new ice cream flavor, perfecting your marshmallow roasting technique, or rowing a boat for the first time. You ll go home wondering how we fit so much into one week! East Shore West Shore Cabins See page 9 for description. East Shore Dramatic Arts (grades 6-9) $515 $465 $415 NEW! 5 Outpost (grades 6-9) This camp is not for the faint of heart. It s for the rugged soul who doesn t mind digging her own latrine, helping to cook all his meals over an open fire, living out of a tent, hiking a couple miles every day, and learning some invaluable outdoor living skills (which will come in handy if one is ever stranded in the middle of a mountain range or under attack by zombies.) A good internal or external frame backpack and sturdy hiking boots are a must. Please note that this camp is physically rigorous. Check-in for Outpost is at Caldwell Pavilion. August 3-8 KY LAK W E E K S E V E n / F A MI L I E S 6 WEEK SEVEN Retreats and Camps FOR Families Creative Arts (grades 3-5) If you really enjoy visual arts, you ll love this camp. Spend the week learning new skills and techniques, working on more involved projects, and letting your inner artist shine! And don t worry, there ll be enough time to make orange-peel cakes or doughboys over an open fire. The week will conclude with a brief art show at 6:30pm on Friday in Founders Lodge. East Shore Cabins Classic Senior High (grades 9-12) Not just any program gets to call itself classic. Like our other two Classic Programs (Elementary and Junior High) Classic Senior High is all about offering you a tried and true program that draws on over sixty years of experience. In essence, we do our best to pack so much stuff into a few short days that you will wonder how we manage to fit it all in! Oh, you know, stuff like: finding a spot in the woods that hasn t been touched by humans in years and building an awesome fort there, then leaving no trace of it at the end of the week; swimming across the lake; preparing a gourmet meal over a fire you built yourself; engaging in deep, theological discussions while making ice cream from scratch; and canoeing the perimeter of the lake. Riley Lodge & Underwood Lodge $515 $465 $415 Classic Junior High (grades 6-8) Not just any program gets to call itself classic. Like our other two Classic Programs (Elementary and Senior High) Classic Junior High is all about offering you a tried and true program that draws on over sixty years of experience. You ll need to brace yourself for five nights/six days of non-stop awesomeness. And when we say awesomeness we mean sleeping out under the stars or the canopy of the forest, waking up early to swim from shore to shore and back all before your breakfast cookout, which you ll prepare at the beachfront fire pit (and yes, bacon will be involved.) Then you might go for a leisurely stroll through the woods for inspiration for your tie-dye masterpiece, before contemplating the meaning of your life in Bible study. Also, there will be s mores. And field games. West Shore Cabins Refer a friend and $515 $465 $415 Spring Fling & Labor Day These two weekends are designed for families and friends to spend time camping with fellow Christians. SPECIAL NEEDS INFORMATION 8 Special needs important information E veryone is special, but some of us also have special needs. Since 1968, Sky Lake has offered camping opportunities for persons with mild- to moderate-developmental and physical disabilities. We believe our natural surroundings at Sky Lake to be the handiwork of God and do our best to make the great outdoors accessible to all of our special needs campers, at a pace that allows them to fully appreciate it after all, time at camp is vacation for many of our campers! Through all that we do we strive to provide our friends with special needs with a time and place in which they can experience a supportive, loving, and safe Christian community that honors, respects, and promotes each individual s personhood. Each session is overseen by volunteer directors who have ample experience with our special needs camps, and also bring expertise as pastors, educators, and social workers. Campers are supervised by college-age and older adults who are passionate about making sure campers have a great time. The medical and health needs of our special needs campers are overseen by registered nurses that reside onsite. Special needs registration To ensure a safe and enjoyable Sky Lake experience we use an application process for our special needs camps. Here is how the application process works: Complete the Special Needs Camp Application form (available for download at skylakecenter.org or by contacting the Sky Lake Office directly) Return the completed application to the Sky Lake Office promptly. Deadline is the 9th of each month, and will continue each month that space is available. Please do not send any payment with the initial application. Decision letters and health forms will be mailed on or before the 20th of each month, beginning in March. A $75 non-refundable deposit will be required of those who are offered a space in one of our special needs camps, which will be due by the last day of the month. Remainder of the balance is due prior to attendance at camp. Please note the following: The registration form at the end of this brochure is for children and youth camps only. Special registration forms are used for family, adult, and special needs programs, which are available for download at skylakecenter.org or by contacting the Sky Lake Office directly. The Special Needs Camp Application takes the place of the former Pre-Camp Information Form, however there will still be a late fee for health forms not returned at least five (5) business days prior to the start of the session of camp attending. Check-in for Special Needs Camps Sessions One & Two, Buddies Camp, and Friends Camp will be in Founders Lodge beginning at 3:00pm on Sunday, unless otherwise specified in official pre-camp materials. Check-in for Helping Hands Camp will be in Underwood Lodge beginning at 3:00pm on Sunday. Pick-up for Special Needs, Helping Hands, and Friends camps will be at 1:00pm on Friday in Founders Lodge, unless otherwise specified in official pre-camp materials. Pick-up for Buddies Camp will be at 6:30pm on Friday in Founders Lodge. Refer a friend and save $25! REGISTER ONLINE AT skylakecenter.org

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMP (ages 9-65) We offer two different sessions of our traditional Special Needs Camp. It s a classic camp designed for persons with mild-to moderate-developmental disabilities needing minimal-to-no assistance with daily living skills. An average staff to camper ratio of 1:4 allows campers to enjoy outdoor life through such things as swimming, boating, hiking, singing, worship, crafts, cookouts, and daily camp responsibilities. We are unable to accommodate campers needing one-on-one care. Independent toileting and mobility skills are required. Special Needs Session One, June 22-27 Special Needs Session Two, July 13-18 Riley Lodge & East Shore Cabins $565 $515 $465 BUDDIES CAMP (ages 9-29) Buddies Camp is specifically geared toward higher functioning youth and young adults with developmental disabilities between the ages of 9 and 29. If you don t mind smelling like bug repellent, think the idea of eating breakfast in a boat sounds like fun, and want to experience a sense of belonging, all while learning some more about your faith, Buddies Camp is for you! You are invited to apply if you live at home with family or in supervised/independent housing, attend school in the community, are mobile, have no serious physical disabilities, and need almost no assistance with daily living skills. Please note that pick-up time for Buddies Camp is 6:30pm on Friday. June 29-July 4 Riley Lodge & East Shore Cabins $550 $500 $450 HELPING HANDS CAMP (ages 9-65) Special preparations go into this week for persons with physical challenges and visual impairments. Whether you use a wheelchair, cane, walker, or crutches, you ll still get to go for a stroll (or roll!) through the woods, have a cookout, spend time at swimming and boating, making s mores, and lots more! A higher staff to camper ratio of 1:2.5 allows for more personal attention, however we are only able to accommodate persons with minimal assistance needed in toileting and transferring, and who do not require oneon-one care. Please note this is the only session when we are able to accommodate campers in wheelchairs. Space is limited to twelve campers. June 29-July 4 Underwood Lodge $565 $515 $465 9 SPECIAL NEEDS FAMILY CAMP A variation of our traditional special needs camps, Friends Camp is designed for highly functional persons with developmental disabilities ages 25-65. Campers enjoy the lake and woods as they make new friends and worship God. Persons are invited to apply if they live in supervised or independent housing (or are able to), work in the community, have no serious physical disabilities, and need almost no assistance with daily living skills. Are you a family with a school-age child with special needs? If so, you ll love this camp over Memorial Day Weekend! Not only will there be opportunities for you to spend time together as a family, but parents, kids with special needs, and siblings will be able to enjoy their own separate activities too. Parents you ll certainly benefit from the educational sessions we ve designed especially for you; kids with special needs you ll love the activities our dedicated, caring staff have in store for you; siblings you can count on our staff to make sure you have a blast too! TI E R E D PRICING 10Tiered pricing new this year! S ummer camp has great value in the life of a child. Genuine community is experienced, ministry to the whole person takes place, relationships are built with God and others, memories and major life commitments are made, and tomorrow s leaders are developed today. UNYAC Camps are also a great value! We are proud to say that all of our basic camp programs are priced under the industry average price of $690.00. And now, our brand new Tiered Pricing is intended to recognize the costs related to the camp experience and allow families to select the level of payment most appropriate for their circumstances. Each family may freely choose to participate at the Tier 1, Tier 2, or Tier 3 level; and every child will receive the same camp experience regardless of the level chosen. How it works: 1 TRUE COST OF CAMP 2 DIRECT COST OF CAMP 3 For families who are blessed to be able to pay Tier 1 pricing, this level constitutes the true cost of camp including all aspects of maintaining facilities in good condition, insurance, utilities, etc. Electing to pay the Tier 2 price helps cover the direct cost of a week of summer camp including program costs, food, summer staff and camp administration. PARTIALLY SUBSIDIZED COST Every effort is made to keep the cost of camp as affordable as possible. At this level, every camper s fee is partially subsidized by generous donations to the CRM and Sky Lake Scholarship Funds. also NEW this year for online registrations Use our EZPay Plan to schedule payments that will be charged to your credit card automatically. Families who wish to take advantage of our EZPay Plan, but who do not choose to register online, should call the registrar at 607-467-2750.

about Things You ll Want to Know Summer Camp at sky Lake About our Activities Cabinmate Requests Arrival & Departure Whether you re an expert or beginning camper, there s something here for you! Our qualified staff will encourage you and ensure your safety. There are many options to choose from, and all equipment and safety gear is provided unless stated otherwise in the confirmation material. Please note that for the safety of our guests, all campers must pass a swim evaluation to take part in most waterfront activities. Campers who are not strong swimmers will have limited, but quality, access to the waterfront activities. We will seek to honor cabinmate requests made at least 2 weeks before camp begins, provided campers are registered in the same program; ages are not more than 24 months apart and the request is made by both people. Note that this is optional and many campers do not make requests. While we seek to honor your wishes, we also value kids making new friends. Please call if you have questions. Our camps begin at 3:00pm on Sunday and end with a closing ceremony/performance at 6:30pm on Friday, unless otherwise noted in the program description or confirmation material. Special needs camps (other than Buddies Camp) conclude at 1:00pm on Friday. Food Service Camper Mail, Telephone Calls, and Cell phones Always one of the most important parts of camp, we provide quality food and plenty of it! Healthy and delicious home-style meals are prepared daily and usually served family style. We seek to meet special dietary needs, provided we receive advance notice. Mail is delivered to and picked up from campers daily. Letters are welcome and encouraged; but parents are asked NOT to send packages. Any packages received while a child is at camp will be held until the end of the week and sent home with the child. Address camper mail to: Grade Reference Camper Name, Program Name c/o Sky Lake 501 William Law Road Windsor NY 13865-2128 The grade referred to in this brochure is the grade completed in the spring of 2014. Accommodations The accommodations are very diverse. Campers will stay in their designated lodge or cabin which is nestled among trees and beautiful scenery. Bathrooms are located in each lodge and cabin on the East Shore; a central bathhouse is centrally located on the West Shore. Our outpost site is located in the wilderness area of our property and uses low-impact camping techniques (including using latrines.) Fresh, potable drinking water is carried in each day. Outpost is accessible to emergency vehicles. E-mail is also printed and delivered to campers daily; see our websites for details. To contact a camper in an emergency, please call the camp office; we have 24 hour assistance. Typically campers do not call home during the week; however, in special situations we will permit campers to do so. Please assist us by keeping all cell phones at home. Check-in for camps on the East Shore will be in Founders Lodge (Underwood Lodge for Helping Hands, Intergenerational, and Special Needs Family Camps.) Check-in for camps on the West Shore will take place next to Chauncey Dining Hall (or inside, in case of inclement weather.) Health & Safety The health and safety of all our guests is of utmost importance. Our Health Care Staff includes a consulting physician, one visiting or on-site Registered Nurse, at least one EMT, and several RTE s. Many of our summer staff are certified in CPR and/or first aid. In addition, there is a full-service hospital located within a half hour of each site. Staff are chosen after a rigorous application and screening process; and pre-summer staff training is provided. Red Cross certified lifeguards provide a safe environment for all water and beach activities.
