Avon Tyrrell 2013 18 th 20 th March

Activities led by Avon Tyrrell Staff Shelter building Night walk Low ropes

Night Walk An opportunity to explore Avon Tyrrell during the hours of darkness and to discover nocturnal creatures that live here, the stories connected with Avon Tyrrell house and to test your night vision with some night tricks. Wildlife is more abundant during the spring/summer. Children will get the opportunity to use bat detectors and search for many species which roost at Avon Tyrrell. We will also be on the look-out for tawny owls that nest within the grounds.

Shelter Building Children will work in teams and have a set amount of time to design and create their shelter out of natural materials found in the woods. The groups then visit each others shelters to see what each other has done and to test them for size, strength and waterproofing. Will everyone stay dry?

Low Ropes Situated in purpose built low ropes area and primarily involving low level balance, problem solving and team coordination, this teambuilding activity is suitable for groups of all ages and abilities. Safety: All pupils have a harness and a helmet. They are given a full briefing as to how to attach and detach themselves from the station. Avon Tyrrell staff supervise the activity. Recommendation: Closed toe shoes are required for this activity along with comfortable clothes that you don t mind getting a little muddy.
