Discipline Issues Trees Atlanta reserves the right t dismiss any camper whse behavir is excessively disruptive. We will cmmunicate with the parent/guardian immediately f any cnduct r behavir issues and may call parent/guardian during the camp day fr immediate pickup. This is t ensure the safety and psitive experience f all ur JTK campers. In the event excessively disruptive behavir cannt be prperly addressed at camp, we will dismiss the camper frm the remainder f camp and ffer a prrated refund, minus a $50 administrative fee. JR. WHAT TO WEAR & BRING Apprpriate Dress We will spend mst f ur time utdrs with high levels f physical activity. Please send camper in weather apprpriate play clthes each day f camp. Plan fr yur kids t get dirty explring the urban frest! Flip flps are nt permitted. Clsed te shes are preferred. On certain days, we recmmend campers bring lng-sleeve shirt and pants fr frested excursins as campers may be entering areas with pisn ivy and insects. Ec-friendly bug spray is prvided. Reminder emails fr specific sessins/days will utline what yur camper shuld bring. Change f clthes will be needed fr Splash Pad day (Summer Camp nly). Bikes/Wheels are REQUIRED fr all camp sessins IMPORTANT NOTE: The first day f camp shuld nt be the first time yur camper has ridden his/her bike r wheels befre Junir TreeKeeper Camp! Bth age grups will be utside and n their bikes/wheels a significant prtin f the day. Mtrized devices are nt permitted. Acer Grup (4 th 6 th grades) Ability t ride a 2-wheeled bike is mandatry t participate in this age grup. Helmet is required t be wrn when riding a bike. Campers will ride bikes daily t different lcatins n the Atlanta BeltLine with prper staff supervisin. Any camper wh cannt bring their wn bike and helmet may reserve a rental thrugh Trees Atlanta fr an additinal weekly fee. (Bike reservatin made less than 2 weeks prir t start f camp sessin is NOT guaranteed.) Camper s bike and helmet must be brught t camp n Mnday mrning at drp ff and taken hme at the end f camp n Friday. They will be securely stred n site during the week. Please nte: Trees Atlanta regularly hsts bike-riented utings and events thrughut the year. If yur student needs practice gaining cnfidence r skills riding their bike, please visit ur Calendar f Events t find a yuth bike riding event t enrll in. Quercus Grup (1 st 3 rd grades) campers are required t bring their bikes r ther wheels t camp. We will ride based n the capability and pace f the grup and with prper staff supervisin. Apprpriate wheels include: Razr scters, Big Wheels, r bikes (with r withut training wheels). Helmets are required. Please nte: Rller skates r rllerblades will nt be allwed. See the ABC Checklist (in Appendix) fr details n hw t check ut a bike and be prepare t ride. Other Gear Bth bikes and wheels must be brught t camp n Mnday at drp ff and taken hme n Friday. They will be securely stred n site during the week. Please cnsider alltting extra time Mnday mrning PRIOR t the start f camp t allw fr bike unlading and camp check in prcess. There may be a wait/line in the mrning at check in. Water bttle - A full water bttle is essential t bring t camp every day because we are utside mst f the day. There will be pprtunities fr campers t refill water bttles thrughut the day. Please help us prmte the practice f envirnmental stewardship by bringing a reusable bttle. White T-Shirt: Sme weeks include a Slar T-Shirt art prject. Please review yur camp reminder email and bring a plain white t-shirt n Mnday, as indicated. Back pack: Each camper is respnsible fr keeping track f their wn gear. Since we are n the mve a lt during the day, we recmmend each camper bring a sturdy back pack (with 2 straps, nt strings) t keep their stuff tgether. Camper must carry their wn lunch, snacks, and water bttle. Please make sure these items fit int their backpack with sme rm t spare t carry materials fr the day s adventures (e.g., binculars, jurnal and pencil, r Frisbee, etc.). Phnes? We discurage the use f mbile phnes. If a phne is brught t camp, it must be kept ff and stwed away during the camp day. Lunches and Snacks Lunch n the g: We will ften eat utside r at a destinatin away frm the TreeHuse. Please pack lunches that can be carried in camper s backpack all mrning. Campers will nt have access t micrwave r refrigeratr. Healthy snacks: Active, hungry campers may benefit having a few healthy snacks that will als fit int their backpacks. Medicatin One-day supply: All medicatins must be given t a staff member during mrning drp ff. Please send nly the amunt f medicatin needed fr each day, clearly labelled with detailed instructins alng with camper s first and last name. Sunscreen/Bug Spray: We will be applying sunscreen and/r bug spray n yur child each day as apprpriate fr the day s activities. Unless MEDICALLY necessary, please d nt send alternatives. If yur camper requires a MEDICAL restrictin fr tpical sunscreen r bug sprays, please bring yur medically apprved alternative each day with specific instructins fr use fr yur camper. Mrning Drp Off Guidelines Daily Sign in: Campers must be walked int the TreeHuse and signed-in everyday by a parent/guardian. Be n time: Please be early and budget enugh time in the mrning t enable all campers t be checked in s camp may start n time! Campers and staff will leave the TreeHuse prmptly at the start f each camp day t begin camp activities. Late arrivers may miss ut n activities fr part r all day. First Day f Camp: On Mnday (r the first day f camp) campers shuld bring their bike r wheels int the TreeHuse we suggest alltting extra time fr this and check-in paperwrk, as necessary. Extra Care: If applicable, befre/after care may be added (preferably fr the week) and payment must be cmpleted. Credit card is preferred; check r cash are als accepted. Rates may differ if nt prepaid. Drp ff Parking: There are a limited number f shrt-term parking spts in the Stve Wrks cmplex. Yu may park where permitted and bring yur camper int the TreeHuse fr check in. Frnt Dr Please: We welcme yu t bike r walk t the TreeHuse fr drp ff. Althugh ur back entrance is lcated n the BeltLine trail, mrning drp ff MUST cme thrugh the frnt entrance (parking lt side/atrium). There is a ramp ff the Eastside Trail near BellStreet Burrits behind the Stve Wrks that prvides a bike-friendly path t the frnt f the building. Afternn Pick Up Guidelines Parents and any authrized pick up must shw pht identificatin each day at pick up. Please sign yur name with time f pick up. Campers will nly be released t Parent/Guardian/alternate pickup named by yu during the nline registratin and/r added in writing (via email). If there is a new alternate pickup being added during the week f camp please email the permissin including the full name, relatin, and phne number t treehuse@treesatlanta.rg. Late Pick Up (After-Camp Care) Rates: Pre-Paid = $15/day (Day f =$20/day) Times will be strictly enfrced. In the case n arrangement fr payment fr late pickup has been made and pickup ccurs between designated times, we will autmatically charge $20 fee per camper n each ccurrence. Late fee must be paid at pick up. Any pick up past the end f aftercare is an additinal $1 per minute per student will be assessed. Late fee must be paid at pick up. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1. What is an envirnmental steward? An envirnmental steward preserves, prtects, and educates thers abut ur natural surrundings. 2. What is a typical day like with Junir TreeKeepers? Envirnmental stewardship in actin! Junir TreeKeepers will arrive at the Trees Atlanta TreeHuse every mrning, and then we are ff fr the day, packed with activities designed with yur aspiring envirnmental steward in mind. Activities will include field research and service prjects, trips t urban frests and lcal gardens, frest restratin, tree ID and measuring, rienteering, scavenger hunts, biking n the Atlanta BeltLine, explring the Atlanta BeltLine Arbretum, and much mre! It is ging t be a full week f fun and stewardship fr yur child! Each camper earns an fficial Trees Atlanta Junir TreeKeepers certificate! 3. Wh are the Junir TreeKeepers Camp Staff? Our prgram staff is a team f Trees Atlanta full-time staff with envirnmental training and experience wrking with yuth, alng with qualified, vetted seasnal staff (Camp Cunselrs) wh are trained t create psitive memries fr each camper. In additin, all camps are further supprted by Junir Interns t ensure a safe and inclusive camp experience. All cunselrs and staff have passed backgrund checks. 4. What is the staff t student rati? We will maintain a rati f 1 camp staff t every 4-5 students fr all activities utside f the educatin building (referred t as the TreeHuse ), and at least 2 camp staff will be present with any camper at all times. Lessns in the TreeHuse will staff a minimum f 2 (and usually mre) camp staff t lead activities and supervise, as apprpriate t the activity. 5. 7. Are bth age grups ding the same things? (Des nt always apply t BreakAway camp) Camp weeks that have all grades (1 st 6 th ) cmbined will be divided int 2 grups. 1 st -3 rd graders (Quercus Grve) will wrk tgether, and 4 th 6 th graders (Acer Grve) will wrk tgether. Each grup will have their wn agenda f activities. The lder grup will spend mre time biking while the yunger grup will bring their wheels t use n a limited basis during the week. *BreakAway Camp ften perates as ne grup during mst parts f the day. Bikes and wheels are required fr all campers. 8. Are there any ther additinal csts I need t pay fr camp? Camp fees must be paid in full prir t start f each week s camp in rder t ensure yur child s attendance at camp. There may be tw additinal fees that may be incurred: Bike rental fee if yu reserved r need a bike fr the day/week f camp, Trees Atlanta can prvide a rental bike fr yur camper. Extra fee will apply. Please reserve nline s we may find the best fit. Campers will be mre cmfrtable n their wn bikes, perfect fit is nt guaranteed. A is fr air: ABC's Quick Check Bike Safety Inflate tires t the rated pressure as indicated n the sidewall f the tire. A bicycle pump is recmmended. Use a pressure gauge t ensure prper tire pressure. (Bicycle tires need t be re-inflated mre ften than car tires, and pressure shuld be checked frequently.) Check fr damage t tire tread and sidewall; replace tire if wrn. (This will reduce the chance f flats.) B is fr brakes: Rtate wheels t check that nthing is rubbing. Inspect brake pads fr wear; replace if there is less than 1/4" f pad left. Check adjustment n brake pads; make sure they d nt rub tire r dive int spkes. Check adjustment f brake levers. When applied, there shuld be least 1" between each lever and the handlebar. C is fr cranks, chain, and cassette (and Cranium): Chain shuld be clean, lubricated, and quiet nt chattering, squeaking, r squealing! Use a lubricant that s specifically designed fr bicycles. If yur chain skips while riding, yu might need a new chain, a new cassette, and/r an adjustment. Make sure that yur crank blts are tight. Prtect yur cranium with a prper fitted helmet! Quick is fr quick releases: Wheels need t be tight in the frame, with the hub s quick-release lever fully engaged at 90 angle. Yur hub quick release shuld pint back t insure that nthing catches n it.
