LIFE AT SOUTHERN CROSS SCU INTERNATIONAL SCU International has a dedicated team committed to helping international students from application to acceptance and throughout your studies. Our student support team has been recognised for their outstanding support in the 2016/17 International Student Support Barometer, an independent benchmarking survey. ORIENTATION Orientation week is the first week before studies commence. It is designed to help students settle into their new environment and meet new friends. Orientation includes tours to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary where you can see Australian wildlife as well as other excursions to explore our local area. COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT Students can volunteer with local community organsations including the Koala Hospital located on the Southern Cross University Lismore campus. EXPLORE AUSTRALIA Part of your study abroad experience includes exploring all Australia has to offer. SCU International organises a range of trips, from week-long camping adventures in the Australian outback to exploring World Heritage rainforests and waterfalls, or surf lessons at our beautiful local beaches. Trips are designed to discover the best of our country and build lasting relationships with your new classmates from around the world. AMBASSADORS Student ambassadors are carefully selected international students who work with our international student support team. Their role is to provide a point of contact for new students, having experienced the same challenges of living and studying in a new country. Ambassadors mentor students, organise and participate in events and coordinate volunteering. They provide invaluable support for international students coming into an unfamiliar environment, a new culture and language without the familiar support of their families. Australia is already home away from home for me even though I am staying here only for 4 months. Thanks for the great nature around Lismore, I can relax all the time, and sometimes chill out at Byron Bay. As a trip, I joined outback trip and saw the spectacular view at Uluru and some other big rock. Through this trip, all the friends who travelled together became family that we can be vulnerable each other. From these special experiences and awesome people, I fell in love with Australia.
