DAY 1 DEPART for BOGOTA Depart for Bogota, Colombia. DAY 2 ARRIVE BOGOTA (2N) (D) Arrive in Bogota, the capital and largest city in Colombia. It is a city of 8 million located in the center of the country on a vast plain 2,600m above sea level. It is not only the main economic and industrial center, but also the political heart of the country: The National Legislature, the Supreme Court of Justice and the residence of the President of the Republic (Casa de Nariño) reside here. Hotel de la Opera or similar DAY 3 BOGOTA (B, L, D) Half Day guided tour of the city with Gold Museum This guided visit to the Colombian capital starts at the Plaza de Bolívar (the city s main square), which is surrounded by federal government buildings, and continues into the old colonial part of the city better known as La Candelaria, the San Francisco Church, the Gold Museum (closed on Mondays) and the Emerald Museum. The tour finishes by taking a cable car to the top of the Monserrate Hill, which offers a spectacular view of the city. Half Day Bogota Street Food Due to its different cultures, landscapes and climates, Colombia is not only rich in music, dances and dialects but also a high diversity of food. This Street Food tour includes tasting of fresh juices in a traditional shop in Bogota s colonial center, empanadas vallunas, a workshop about preparation of Bogota s traditional hot chocolate, degustation of chicha at the Chorro de Quevedo and trying exotic fruits at a small market place. Hotel de la Opera or similar DAY 4 BOGOTA VILLA LEYVA (1N) (B, L, D) At dawn we leave Bogotá via the Northern Expressway. We will visit the famous Salt Cathedral in Zipaquira and La Ráquira, a village of quaint and colorful little houses, famous for its pottery and ceramics. We continue on to Villa de Leyva, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved colonial villages in South America. In the afternoon we will arrive at the hotel and afterwards we stroll through the village of Villa de Leyva visiting the central plaza with its churches, restaurants and handicraft shops. Hotel Posada de San Antonio or similar DAY 5 VILLA LEYVA BOGOTA ARMENIA (B, L, D) In the morning we start our visit at the Ecce Homo Dominican convent, constructed in the XVII century and continue to a El Fosil, a marine dinosaur fossil discovered just outside the town, which has been dated at more than 150 million years old and the archaeological site of El Infiernito, finishing in the clay house. Later in the day we return to Bogota for our flight to Armenia. On arrival, transfer to hotel. Allure Café Mowaca Resort or similar DAY 6 ARMENIA COCORA / SALENTO - ARMENIA (B, L, D) Armenia is the capital of the Departamento Quindío located in the Coffee Triangle 290 kilometers west of Bogotá. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes, nature and ancient cultures, the region is a key player in Colombia's rich coffee culture. For anyone interested in nature and culture, Armenia and the Quindío departmento will be a highlight of their trip. Full Day Cocora Valley and Salento with coffee tour El Ocaso With its breathtaking landscapes, the Cocora Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in Colombia. Here you will find the impressive Quindian wax palm which reaches an amazing height of 60 metres. It is also the official Colombian national tree and one of the tallest species of palm trees in the world. You will have time to visit Salento, a picturesque village with artisanal shops. DAY 7 ARMENIA PEREIRA MEDELLIN (B, L, D) Early transfer to Pereira Airport for flight to Medellin, the second largest city in Colombia. DAY 1 ARRIVE QUITO, ECUADOR Arrive in Quito, capitol of Ecuador. Transfer to hotel. DAY 2 QUITO CITY TOUR + MITAD DEL MUNDO (B) Quito is one of the highest cities in the world (2,840m). Visit the beautiful renewed colonial center with the Independence Square, Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, Church of Sab Franciso and Church la Compania which is bathed in gold. We then proceed to Panecillo, a small hill in the middle of the city with a fabulous view of the city and the snow capped mountains. In the afternoon, visit the famous monument of Middle of the World. At this place, you will be able to learn more about Ecuador and its people in the ethnographic Museum. It is also an iconic place to take a picture with each foot on each hemisphere. You will then continue to Museum Intinan in which several different expeiments will demonstrate that you are actually standing on the real middle of the world, due to the phenomena that can only be seen at this latitude. DAY 3 QUITO GALAPAGOS (B, L, D) AM Santa Cruz Transfer to Quito Airport for flight to the Galapagos via Guayaquil. Once in Baltra, Santa Cruz; you will be transferred to the Catamaran Seaman Journey for your 4D3N Galapagos Cruise (Standard Ocean View). DAY 4 GALAPAGOS ISLANDS (B, L, D) AM Genovesa Island, El Barranco The visitor site of El Barranco is located on the southern part of Darwin Bay. The trail is on volcanic rock and can be done in about 2 hours. The natural erosion in these lava flows has become the ideal place for nesting Storm Petrels. You can see two species of petrels that nest in cavities and holes in the lava. During the boat rides along the cliffs, fur sea lions and several species of seabirds can be seen. PM Darwin Bay This bay has its origin when the crater of this island collapsed below sea level. The wet landing is on a beautiful white coral sandy beach. This is a favorite island for birdwatchers with species such as Masked Boobies, Wandering Tattlers, Lava Gulls, Whilmbrels, Yellow and Black Crowned Lava Herons and yellow warblers. Continuing on the trail, climb gradually to the edge of the cliff seeing Red Foots nesting in Mangrove Trees below. Bird watching includes sightings of sharp-beaked Finches, large cactus and Ground Finches. Reaching the end of the trail, at the cliff s edge; an incredible view of the island and the many birds living there can be observed. DAY 5 GALAPAGOS ISLANDS (B, L, D) AM Plazas, Santa Cruz Plazas is located in the East of Santa Cruz Island and some of the most interesting and outstanding species of the Galapagos are found here. The Plazas Island Iguanas are smaller than others found at other islands. Throughout the island are several hybrid iguanas, a result of crossbreeding of marina and land iguanas. PM Santa Fe Island Located in the South-Eastern part of the Galapagos, this island could be the oldest in the archipelago. It is the home of a number of endemic species like the Galapagos Hawk, Galapagos snake, Galapagos Mockingbird and Land Iguanas. After disembarking in the beautiful and clear waters, you will see many sea lion colonies. Along the trail, many salt bushes can be seen as well as giant Prickly Pear Cactus. There is opportunity of snorkeling with playful sea lions in the clear waters.
DAY 6 DEPART GALAPAGOS ISLANDS QUITO (B) AM Jacinto Gordillo Breeding Center In 2004, the Breeding and Rearing Center for Tortoises was established to take care of the protected Galapagos Tortoises. You will learn about this at the center and experience why this center does what it does. After the morning excursion, you will be transferred to Baltra Airport for your flight back to Quito. On arribal, transfer to hotel and at leisure. DAY 7 OTALVO MARKET AND CUICOCHA LAKE DAY TRIP (B) Early in the morning you will start your trip up north, known for its warm climate and production of Chirimoya, an exotic fruit that you can taste. From a small viewpoint you will sight the volcano Cayambe and enjoy the city named after this gorgeous mountain. Here you can taste the bizcocho, a typical bakery good from this area, served with leaf cheese and Ecuadorian toffee or the exquisite blackberry syrup from Ibarra. The tour continues to the famous viewpoint Miralago, located on the foot of the volcano Imbabura offering a beautiful view over the lake San Pablo. From there you will proceed to Poncho Square, where the market of Otavalo takes place and one of the most visited spots in Ecuador due to the tradition and culture that are represented in this place. This colorful market is full of different textiles, most of them handmade. You will spend the afternoon in Cotacachi, a town known for the great varieties of leather, fabricated in the same región. From here you can visit the lagoon Cuicocha (the Lake of the guinea pigs), famous for its turquiose water and located in the ecological reserve Cotacachi-Cayapas. After this impressive experience you will head back to Quito. DAY 8 DEPART QUITO (B) At leisure for last minute shopping before departure to airport for flight home.
