Introduction Dear Parents / Caregivers This booklet is to provide you with the necessary information about our team camp. Forest Lakes is a well known, resourced and comfortable complex situated approx 1¼ hours drive north of Wellington, just beyond Otaki. We offer a programme that centres on social interaction, team building, and introducing children to new experiences, challenges and aims to develop independence. The outdoor education facilities provide the children with a varied range of challenging and safe activities. Children will be sleeping in warm cabins with ample clean bathrooms. Full catering services are provided and the children will be expected to assist with kitchen duties, such as food preparation, table setting, tidying and washing dishes. Morning / afternoon tea and supper is provided, but any home cooked baking would be much appreciated and consumed by our hungry campers. The children will have the experience of sleeping away from home for 2 nights, and participating in a number of exciting activities with their peers. 3
Class, Cost and Parent Help Information The classes have been divided into two groups for the camp. Each group will be staying for two nights and three days as follows:- Rooms 15, 16 & 20 Rooms 18, 19, 21 & 26 The programme will be the same for both groups. will be staying Monday and Tuesday. They will return Wednesday afternoon. will be staying on Wednesday and Thursday returning Friday afternoon. A parent information evening for all parents will be held on Wednesday 24 September at 6.30-7.00pm in the Staffroom. Parent Help 3 Days Thank you for all your offers of help. Each class s parent helpers will be accompanying the same group of children as they complete a series of activities for the duration of their time at camp. This will involve the mud and water slide, confidence course and one out of kayaking, horse riding and abseiling. The last three are instructed by trained Forest Lake supervisors. In addition parents will be expected to serve meals and be available at all times. Teachers will also be accompanying groups through the activities, supporting the children and overseeing the daily routines. 4

Equipment List It is imperative that your child is well packed. Please supervise the packing, pack plenty of plastic bags, socks and warm tops. All clothing is to be named. Allow your child to tick off the items as they pack their bag. The raincoat must be waterproof. Personal Checklist - All items are to be clearly named - Parents please supervise the packing. Children please tick off your items and pack your bag. Karori Normal School will not be held responsible for any loss or damage to personal property. Please check your personal effects insurance policy. Contact Details EMERGENCIES Emergencies Only In an emergency you can contact Forest Lakes Office on 06 364-8218. They will contact David Wong as needed. All accidents or emergencies requiring a Doctor will go to the Otaki Medical Centre. You will be contacted immediately if we decide this necessary. You can contact David Wong (021 182-2440) during the camps to convey important information. David will discuss any concerns and a decision will be made. We will contact you if we have concerns about your child, otherwise be assured that your children are enjoying themselves and will return tired but happy. 9
Collection of your child when returning from camp The children will not be returning back from camp until 2.30pm - 3pm Wednesday or Friday. When we arrive back, and you are waiting for your child, could you please help unload the bus and place the gear in the hall. Please inform the class teacher if you are taking your child home from the hall prior to 3pm. The children, who need to remain at school until 3pm, will be cared for by their class teacher. Important Extras: A packed lunch will be required on your child s first day at camp. The children will be fed wholesome, yummy camp food. No sweets. No electronic items ipods, cell phones, electronic games, radios Warm sleeping bag tied to bag, not separate in supermarket bag. Only one bag per child. Home baking for morning/ afternoon teas and supper. 10
