With this 100 degree plus heat, I sure have NOT wanted to get the old BRG out. I just hope some good top down weather will be behind all this heat. What a fast year for me. I have enjoyed the challenge of serving as your President for the year 2001. I think our Club is getting bigger and better every year. This can only happen with your help. As we move into the next year, I will be looking forward to more fun rides and meeting new friends and being with old one s. At our August meeting, we will be electing officers for the coming year. 1 We always have some nice door prizes and we are going to raffle off the INTENSE MIATA a book every Miata owner needs. Barbara has autographed it for me. COME GET INVOLVED, THIS IS YOUR CLUB. I would like to thank the officers and everyone who has invested their personal time to insure that the Club had another fun year. Planning trips and events, taking pictures, looking after our finances and getting all this information in print for us is a lot of work, but worth every mile of it. UNTIL NEXT TIME, KEEP YOUR TOP DOWN AND YOUR REVS UP Mac

Meeting Minutes July 18, 2001 Meeting was called to order by Mac Arnett at 7 PM. About 30 people and no new members attended. Mac suggested that there be no drive following the meetings until it cools down enough for people to enjoy themselves with the top down. He also said that it is time for the election of officers and just about the whole slate needs to be elected, including the newsletter editor. He then gave a quick review of the Dam Trip and lunch at the Smokehouse BBQ at Tenkiller. Anne Duckett gave the Treasurer's Report, and we have $909.14 in the account, but the mail box rental is due in August, so this will change. Earl then gave Trip Updates. On Saturday Aug 18, leaving at 9 AM from McDonald's at Admiral & Memorial & 244 will be a 180-mile trip with 3 potty stops, lunch, and a visit to This Old House...the surprise will be This Old House, and you must be there to understand the cryptic nature of this trip. There is a misprint in the last newsletter. The trip of Sep 2 should read Sep 22, but this trip has now been cancelled because it coincides with the Gathering of the Miata Clubs. The Gathering of the Miata Clubs is Sat, Sep 29. Headquarters will be the Victoria Inn in Eureka Springs. If you make your reservations soon, you can request an outside room where you can view your car in the parking lot. (Jim said they have no non-smoking rooms, so he made reservations at the nearby Holiday Inn Express.) Saturday, Oct 20, will be the foliage tour. With no other business, meeting was then adjourned, and we all went out to the parking lot to see and talk about the cars. The NEO Classic This Old House with Dorothy and Earl When: Saturday, August 18, 2001 Time: 9:00 AM Where: McDonald's, corner of Admiral and Memorial, on I 244 Bob & Norm: Dorothy and Earl Phone: 622.4635 The drive will be a leisurely paced wandering through the Osage Hills. The total distance out and back will be about 180 miles. There will be scheduled "potty stops" plus the stop for lunch, and of course our visit to the old house. What will it cost me? If you start out with a full tank you will not need to buy any fuel all day. Figuring the cost of lunch and drinks at all three rest stops for two people, I would estimate that you would probably spend about thirty dollars during the entire day of our outing. That price does not include the cost of breakfast should you decide to have it at McDonalds before we leave. Our schedule will be as follows: 8:00-8:45 AM Breakfast for those who desire it 8:50 AM Drivers meeting on north side of the building, the I 244 side 9:00 AM Depart promptly on our drive. Noonish Lunch 1:00 PM or so Visit to the old house 2:00-4:00 PM Return to Tulsa via the Osage Hills Special note: This drive is dedicated to those club members who said that Dorothy and I were incapable of leading a drive shorter than 400 miles, with less than 400 curves, averaging 75 MPH, with no potty stops. This drive is for you guys. You better be there. YOUR CLUB'S 11 TH BIRTHDAY PARTY & PICNIC (Natural Falls State Park) When: Sunday, September 23 Time: Noon Where: McDonald's, I 244/412 at 193 rd East Ave Chef: Mike Meyer Phone: 243.7518 Come join us for our annual Club Birthday Party and Picnic at Natural Falls State Park. We will meet at noon at McDonald's, North of I244/412 at 193 rd East Ave. We will then take the Miata route on old 412 to Natural Falls State Park. The club will provide the hamburgers, hotdogs, condiments, and the birthday cake. You bring a side dish, drinks, camera, and the Miata. Natural Falls State Park is a very unique area with a beautiful 77-foot waterfall dropping from the top of the park to a clear pool of water below. The park is located about four miles west of Arkansas on scenic hwy 412. The park also has many short trails, and a formal garden area. There is a $3.00 per Miata fee to use the Park. If you get there late, we will be at the Picnic Shelter. We should be back in Tulsa around 6:00 Sunday evening. We are having this event a little earlier this year. The past two years it has been way too cold! What more could you ask for? A fall afternoon, good food, good friends, great scenery, and Miata roads. 5

NEO Miata P.O. Box 554 Tulsa, OK 74101-0554.. The NEO Classic Ed. July 15th was our last cool day for almost a month, so it was nice that it worked out that we had a Miata trip on that day. I didn t have any takers from my house to be my navigator so Joel Eads took the position. This worked out great because Joel had planned the trip, but his car was out of commission. The trip took us past six or seven dams in the northeastern part of Oklahoma. We had a great time. The only problem we experienced was continuingly getting behind slow (40 MPH) vehicles for long stretches. The trip took us to one of the curviest roads around here. Joel was dying to drive this stretch. Knowing that Joel is a more aggressive driver than me, I was somewhat reluctant to let him (I was not dying to go real fast). Nelson Nissan Mazda 258-6581 1999 MAZDA MIATA AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - $13,995 But knowing Joel is an excellent driver and has had the Hallet training course, I acquiesced to his request. Well, we did indeed go real fast (and I m sure he was not pushing the limit since it wasn t his car), we did stay on the road and I did survive. However, the other members had to pry my hands off the top of the windshield and there are permanent fingerprints on the paint. 6 10% Discount on Parts and Service Joel had the car totally under control the whole time and seeing first hand his style, I m convinced everyone should take the Hallet training course. If you want a rush, ask Joel to take you for a drive! Zoom, Zoom, Zoom! Kim Expires: 09/30/01 (discount does not apply on promotional items)
