What: 9 th Grade Outdoor Education Week SAGE RIDGE SCHOOL Ask Our Graduates Why: Outdoor Education Week is one of the main highlights of the Sage Ridge Experience. During a one-week period in September, students in grades 5 th 12 th all depart for one week to different locations around the west to experience life outside the classroom. We aim to produce and provide exemplary and industry-changing facilitators who maximize the potential of any experience by blending unique adventure programs with the latest understanding of neuroscience, personal and relational psychology, and mindfulness. Our objective is to always balance fun, movement and reflection through highly customized programs challenging students and adults in the prime learning zone just beyond their comfort level. Educational Overview: The 9 th graders are setting out for a camping and sailing trip to Angel Island located in the beautiful San Francisco Bay. Students will be camping and exploring Angel Island for two days and then they board the Schooner Seaward and learn to sail the tall ship around the Bay. The experienced staff of Move Mountains will work in partnership with the highly qualified Sage Ridge faculty to provide the most rewarding experience possible for the students. Throughout the trip we help students develop skills in leadership, climbing, backcountry travel, scientific inquiry, nature observations, trail etiquette, and teamwork. Additionally, the program aims to foster self-reliance, selfconfidence, self-reflection, interpersonal relationships, and natural connections between the classroom experience and the outdoor environment. June 7, 2018 Dear 9 th Grade Families, Who: Sage Ridge School 2018/19 9 th Grade Class What: 9 th Grade Outdoor Education Where: Angel Island Camping and Sailing When: Depart Monday, September 10, 2018 at 8:00 A.M from SRS Return Friday, September 14, 2018 at 3:00-3:30 P.M. to SRS On September 10 th, Sage Ridge School 9 th grade students will depart campus for their 2017 Outdoor Education trip to Angel Island State Park and Call of the Sea sailing adventure. Angel Island State Park is located in the beautiful San Francisco Bay. The location provides ample day-hiking, access to sailing and internationally recognized historical sites such as the Angel Island Immigration Station We will take the Angel Island Ferry departing from Tiburon to reach the island. Once we arrive on the island, students will hike a short distance and learn the art of setting up camp. It won t take long to fully assimilate to life in the outdoors. Throughout the trip, students will hike, cook, read, do teambuilding and communication activities, write in journals, and work together to face challenges and develop the qualities of leadership fostered at Sage Ridge School. Expert staff will work in partnership with the highly qualified Sage Ridge faculty to provide the most rewarding experience possible for the students. 4 Equipment List Move Mountains will provide group equipment such as tents, stoves/fuel, pots, food, navigation tools, first aid, trowels, etc. Each student is responsible for his/her own personal equipment and snack / lunch for the first day.
