Don t stress over DISRUPTIONS AT NOTTINGHAM STATION 20 July 25 August Pick up this leaflet for all the information you need to travel during the re-signalling works We re helping you stay on the move TRAVEL

Major re-signalling works 20 July 25 August This summer, Nottingham station will be affected by the Nottingham re-signalling works, which will cause major disruptions to train services between 20 July 25 August. In this leaflet you ll find information about the works and how service changes will affect you, so that you can be prepared and plan your journeys without worry. Discounted travel A discount will apply on tickets purchased for travel between 20 July 25 August (excluding Advance Purchase tickets) that involve travel on a rail replacement bus. An increased number of cheaper Advance Purchase fares will also be made available during this time. Discounted travel is only available on journeys where East Midlands Trains is the primary train operator. For travel between Derby and Nottingham, CrossCountry Trains is the primary train operator on this route and will be offering a reduced Off Peak return fare for travel any time throughout the day. Season ticket Discount Customers who are yet to purchase a season ticket are advised to purchase five weekly season tickets during the Nottingham re-signalling works, to take advantage of the discount, as opposed to purchasing a monthly season ticket. A discount will only be available on tickets to/from Nottingham on selected journeys between 20 July 25 August, and where East Midlands Trains is the primary train operator. 2

Frequently asked questions What is the Nottingham re-signalling works? It is a project by Network Rail to improve Nottingham station and transform the railways around the city. Big changes to tracks and signalling will mean more reliable services and fewer delays at Nottingham station, and the railways will be able to cope with an increasing demand for rail travel in the future. What will the project involve? 100 million investment A new platform at Nottingham station 143 new signals Six miles of new track Two renewed level crossings Two level crossings replaced with footbridges. Why is this work being done? This is the biggest transformation of the railway through Nottingham for 50 years. When the layout and signalling were originally designed in the 1960s, the number of passenger trains was much lower. Now with trains to London every half hour, and services to Mansfield, Worksop, Norwich, Liverpool, Leeds and others, the railway is congested and signalling equipment is in need of modernisation. This work will future-proof the station and work in conjunction with the proposed line-speed improvements and the rebuilding of the station to offer a much improved journey for passengers. Register for updates 3

Why is the work taking place during the summer period? Services are always quieter during the summer period with fewer commuters and business travellers. During the five weeks chosen for the Nottingham re-signalling project, we expect services to be around quieter than at other times of the year. We do recognise that many passengers use our services to travel between Nottingham and Skegness over the summer holidays, and we have worked hard to maintain the best possible service we can for our passengers on this route. Train services will continue to run between Grantham and Skegness and Newark and Lincoln at all times and on 23 out of the 37 days, we will be able to run direct train services from Nottingham to Skegness. Why is the work taking 37 days? This will enable Network Rail to carry out the work in the shortest time possible. If the work had been planned to take place over weekends, as is the case with a lot of engineering work, this would have taken around a year s worth of weekend closures in and around Nottingham to complete the works. What is the best station to use to travel to london? We are advising people to travel from East Midlands Parkway station, which is located on the A453 near to Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station. There are three trains an hour to/from London from this station and journey times are around 1 hour and 34 minutes. Five buses an hour will run between Nottingham and East Midlands Parkway, or alternatively passengers can use the 1,000 space car park for the discounted price of 6 per day. There is also free parking for disabled passengers at this station. Sign up online today for the latest updates at 4

What steps have you taken to provide a better service? We have invested in additional car parking spaces at East Midlands Parkway for passengers connecting to London services. Passengers who already hold a car parking season ticket for Nottingham can use this ticket to park at East Midlands Parkway visit the Ticket Office for more information. We have carried out research and worked closely with Nottingham City Council to assess how many buses are needed and develop the best possible bus routes for passengers. We have around 100 East Midlands Trains and Network Rail Managers providing extra assistance at key locations throughout the duration of the re-signalling project, and we are also providing additional cycle storage facilities at Beeston, East Midlands Parkway, Newark Castle and Grantham stations. Will this affect all east midlands trains journeys? No. The rest of our network will operate a full and normal service throughout the summer. The routes that will operate as normal include: Sheffield, Chesterfield, Derby, East Midlands Parkway, Leicester, Market Harborough, Kettering, Corby, Wellingborough, Bedford and Luton to London Liverpool to Sheffield/Chesterfield Derby to Matlock Derby to Crewe Newark to Lincoln Grantham to Skegness. Around three quarters of our passengers will not be affected at all by the work at Nottingham. What advice Do you have? Do continue to travel with us during the summer, but be prepared, allow additional time for your journey and check for the latest updates before you travel at 5
