Minutes of The Villages Aviation Club meeting Monday February 9, 2015 The meeting was called to order by Pres. Jim Waymire, and opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. There were 95 members and guests in attendance. All First Time meeting attendees were requested to stand and introduce themselves, together with a brief description of their aviation background/interests. The Secretary, Donald Field, made a motion that the minutes of the Jan. 12, 2015 meeting be accepted as distributed via Email. The motion was seconded and a vote to accept followed. The Treasurer, Marty Edelman, read the Treasurer s report. A motion to accept was made, seconded, and a vote to accept the Treasurer s report followed. NEW BUSINESS: Nominating Committee Pres. Jim Waymire announced that the Election of Officers will be held at the March 9th meeting. The March meeting will also serve as the Annual Meeting of The Villages Aviation Club, Inc. As we had previously voted, the incoming President, Vice President, and Secretary will serve as the 3 directors

of the Corporation for the upcoming year. Jim appointed Nelson Bailes as the Chairman of the Nominating Committee. Anyone that would like to nominate either himself or herself or any other member for an Officer position may do so by notifying the committee Chairman Nelson Bailes, in writing (nelsonevv@gmail.com) before the March 9th meeting. The Officer positions are: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. Jim invited everyone to go to our web site www.thevillagesaviation.com to avail him or herself of the large amount of aviation information on the site, peruse club activities, and see photos of our Fly Outs. Now that everyone needing an FAA Medical Certificate (Class I, II or II) or Student Pilot Medical Certificate is REQUIRED to use The Federal Aviation Administration s MedXPress System, we have added a FAA MEDICAL PAGE that contains hyperlinks to the FAA System that explains the details of how the Program works. This System requires anyone requiring an FAA Medical Certificate or Student Pilot Medical Certificate to electronically complete, and submit, their medical application (FAA Form 8500-8), prior to seeing their AME. Dr. Roger Sherman, the longtime local Senior AME used by many of our members, passed away on Jan. 14, 2015. Dr. Sherman and his wife Joanne had been

regular Guest Speakers at our meetings for many years. The Flying Buddy List is now posted on the Club Web Site. This is a list of member Pilots that are interested in flying together, and sharing the costs, with other Pilots. This list is one that a Pilot could go to if they wanted to go flying, and would like another Pilot in the Right Seat. If anyone would like to add their name to the list, contact Nelson Bailes at the next meeting. TICO Warbird Airshow. The Annual TICO WARBIRD AIRSHOW will be held on March 13, 14, and 15, 2015 at the Space Coast Regional Airport (TIX) in Titusville, FL. See www.nbbd.com/festivals/warbird or http://www.vac warbirds.net/ for information on the Airshow. Again this year, SENIOR ADVENTURES is doing a $68 all-inclusive one day Bus Trip to the show on Sat., March 14. For reservations for the BUS TRIP, contact: Senior Adventures 352-753- 5404 www.senioradventures.net. A separate Email regarding this trip will be sent to the membership. Winners of Free Aircraft Appraisals: Our Guest Speaker at our Jan. meeting, Jim Hausch, who is a Certified Aircraft Appraiser, raffled off 2 free Aircraft Appraisals. The two winners were Charles Merritt, and Richard Buffington. NAMETAGS: All of our Dues Paid Members have Nametags. The Nametags are in a clip-on plastic sleeve. Everyone is urged to bring a small picture (1 H X 2 L) of their plane and leave it in their

nametag sleeve. That will enable the people at a meeting to see what your Flying Background or Interests are. SAFETY BRIEFING: Richard Burns, our club Safety Officer, made a very interesting Safety Briefing presentation. Rich s monthly and past presentations are available to see on the Club Web Site. On the Home Page, Click on Club Safety briefings. FLY OUTS: Nelson reported that the January Fly Out to the LSA Show at Sebring had been cancelled due to bad weather. Nelson announced that the Feb. Fly Out would be to the Piper Aircraft Factory in Vero Beach on Mon., Feb. 16. A signed Waiver of Liability Form is required for all Fly Out or Drive Out participants. You only have to sign the waiver once, and it is kept in the Club s files. Contact Don Field, at the meetings, to sign a waiver. GUEST SPEAKER: Our Guest Speaker was John "Lites" Leenhouts. John is the CEO of Sun N Fun and also an ex-navy Flattop pilot. John made a very interesting presentation on some of the Sun N Fun annual

activities. This year s Sun N Fun will run from 4/21-4/26/15. He also informed us that Sun N Fun is the primary sponsor of a High School, located on their property in Lakeland, named Central FL Aerospace Academy (CFAA). In addition to the normal high school curriculum, this high school focuses on providing their students with an in depth education in Aerospace, Avionics, and Airframe and PowerPlant Maintenance; and in addition to awarding High School Diplomas, graduates 40 Private Pilots per year 50 50 DRAWING A 50-50 Drawing was held.
