Camp Guidelines and Expectations In order for the camp to run safely and smoothly, and to ensure all campers receive a valuable educational experience, certain guidelines have been put in place. Please read through these carefully with your parent/guardian. Once you have read and understood, sign and bring with you on the first day of camp. Attendance and General Conduct Participants are required to arrive on the first day of the session and stay with the program until the last day of the session. Participants are expected to take part in all scheduled activities (classes, guest lectures, meals, outings), conducting themselves in a respectful manner at all times. Participants are also expected to clean up after themselves in all of the common areas of the residence: dining room, lounge, and all outside areas. Participants are expected to help maintain the cleanliness of common spaces by cleaning up trash in the common areas, even if they did not leave it there. Bullying Bullying of any sort will not be tolerated and will result in immediate dismissal from the program. This includes physical, verbal, social, and cyber bullying. See https://www.bullyingcanada.ca/what-is-bullying for more information. Cellular Phones Participants are allowed to have cell phones, but they are not allowed to have these phones turned on during activities or at any other time that requires their attention to be directed to activities. The program encourages students to engage in program activities and socialize with others in the program. Dress Participants are expected to dress in a manner that is appropriate for visiting public places. Close-toe shoes may be required for certain activities. Participants will be walking quite a bit around campus and are expected to wear proper shoes and dress appropriate for the weather. Residence Bedrooms You will share a room with another camper. You are both responsible for keeping their rooms clean. Occasionally camp staff will inspect bedroom and participants are expected to follow any requests they make for the room to be cleaned. Also, participants should make an agreement with their roommate(s) on how tidy they will each keep the room. Participants are discouraged from having gatherings in their rooms; they should instead make use of common areas of the residence to meet with friends and to socialize. Participants must sleep in their own rooms in their own beds. Residential Furniture Participants are not allowed to rearrange furniture in the residences without permission from the program staff. Any furniture that is moved must be returned to its original state by the end
of the session. Participants who do not comply will be identified and charged labor fees for returning furniture to its original location. Lights Out Lights out time will be 10:30 pm. This means that participants must be in their own common areas by 10:00 pm, and in their own individual rooms/beds, with the lights out, by 10:30 pm. Lights out may be moved earlier for individuals with behavioral issues. Dining Hall Participants are expected to behave with respect and responsibility when in the Dining Halls. They must return their trays, clean up after themselves, and treat the dining room staff and other participants with respect. Throwing food is not allowed. Fire Hazards and Alarms Participants must not, at any time, tamper with the fire safety equipment on campus, including fire extinguishers, fire alarms, or smoke alarms. There is a significant fine for tampering with this equipment. Additionally, fire hazards such as candles or incense are not allowed in or around the residences. Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco Participants shall not use, possess, or distribute alcohol, tobacco including vaporizers, or drugs, with the exception of prescription and over-the-counter medications that are listed on student medical forms and approved for use by the participant s parent or guardian. All prescription medications must be in their original, labeled packaging. Participation in an incident involving alcohol, tobacco, or drugs is cause for immediate dismissal, even if the participant did not consume or intend to consume these substances. Security Regular patrols are done by University Security Personnel during the day and evening. There is also 24-hour staffing at the main door. Participants are to keep their rooms locked during the day and when unattended. All suspicious activity should be reported to the program staff immediately. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cut along dotted line and return to Dalhousie University.
