Chairman s Message 100 Year Celebra on On February 8, 1910 the Boy Scouts of America was officially organized. Five months later a handbook was published. By consul ng the handbook, you could learn to read a map, make a campfire, pitch a tent, and cook a meal. You could get excellent advice on how to live ethically, cheerfully and democra cally with a group. Now more than 100 years later, Scou ng s ll promises fun, adventure, leadership and service. The 2018 Centennial Jamboral will honor this tradi on Kevin Murray and con nue the journey by offering the opportunity to Centennial Jamboral Chairman learn new skills and experience new adventures, through camping under the stars, earning rank advancements, and giving service to the community. On September 14 15, 2018, the Great Salt Lake Council will gather for the 2018 Centennial Jamboral to celebrate 100 years of Great Salt Lake Council Scou ng. Scouts of all ages will come together to share their Scou ng spirit in a fes val of Scout ac vi es. By playing the midway games, viewing Scout history displays, challenging high adventures, watching great entertainment, par cipa ng in the camp wide trading card game, and engaging in the Centennial Jamboral Century of Honor phone app, you will make new friends and enjoy adventures throughout the event. Century of Honor CAMP WIDE TRADING CARDS Each Scout and leader will receive 20 of the same camp wide trading cards with their paid registra on. There are 20 different trading cards, each represen ng a different part of the 1910 Scout leadership. The trading cards will be traded throughout the jamboral. Each person will trade 19 of their cards (you keep one for yourself) in order to complete the set. The en re set of trading cards can be shown at the trading post for the Century of Honor gold fleur de lis pin which is mounted on the jacket patch. This pin will be a great addi on to your Scou ng collec on and another remembrance of your experience at the Century of Honor Jamboral. Page 5

Plus, it s a unique venue for non equestrian events, such as concerts, sports events and trade shows. vehicles to their assigned camping loca on. Due to the large number of par cipants and for par cipant safety, no vehicles will be allowed in the camping areas. Please plan your use of meals and equipment accordingly. For Scouts with special needs, please contact your district Jamboral registra on chairman prior to the event for access arrangements. Medical Informa on Medical informa on required for this ac vity is a current health history signed by parents or guardian. The Annual Health and Medical Form (34605 Parts A & B) meets this requirement. The form can also be found on the council website at ww.saltlakescouts.org. Scoutmasters and leaders should review their unit s medical informa on, become knowledgeable about the medical needs of the youth members in their unit, and have a copy of their unit s medical informa on in his possession at the event. Salt Lake County Equestrian Park and Event Center The Park is located at 2100 West 11400 South, South Jordan, UT 84095. The Equestrian park has graciously opened up the park for us to enjoy. This beau ful facility has grassy fields and parking for everyone. During this event we will be guests of the event center so lets keep the Outdoor Code in mind and show our best Scout camping manners and behavior. The park is located just six minutes from I 15. Take the 10600 South off ramp and proceed west to 2200 west. Turn le and proceed south approximately 3/4 mile following the signs. Thanks Salt Lake County for the usage of the park! Back to Basics This is a back to basics Jamboral. All equipment must be carried to your campsite from your vehicles. A er parking in the designated lot, Scouts and leaders should carry their gear in backpacks or equipment carriers from their Sanita on You will need to haul your own garbage out. Adequate latrines (2 3 per district) will be placed throughout the encampment. They will be emp ed and cleaned regularly. Trading Post Special Jamboral and Scout items will be for sale during the Jamboral. Quan es will be limited. Snacks and so drinks will also be available. Advancements and award items will not be available at the trading post. Unit Equipment Each unit is responsible for providing their own equipment at the Jamboral. Hiking into the Jamboral to campsites will be the mode of unit camping. Appropriate law enforcement agencies have commi ed their resources to provide our Scouts and leaders a safe, protected and traffic controlled ac vity. Page 6

Leadership Two registered adult leaders or one registered leader and a parent of a par cipant, one whom must be 21 years of age or older, must be with each unit at all mes. This is in keeping with adult leadership policy for all ou ngs. At least one registered adult who has completed BSA Youth Protec on Training must be present at all events. Please instruct youth to use the buddy system during the event. Traffic Control The Jamboral site will be accessed through three gates. (See Map) Gates 1, 2,and 3 are for entrance to the event. VIP with pink pass should enter at Gate 2. There will be assigned mes with your registra on packet. Please follow the direc on of the traffic personnel both on the main roads and in the parking areas. Gate #1 Traffic Control Entrance Right Turn from 11400 South into event. Districts D8, D11, D12, D13, D14, D15, D17 Gate #2 Traffic Control Entrance Right Turn from 2200 West into event. Districts D1, D2, D3, D6 Gate #3 Traffic Control Entrance Districts 5, 7, 10, 16, 18, 19, 20 Parking/Vehicle Passes VIP parking is assigned to gate 2. A pink VIP parking pass must be displayed in the front window of all vehicles in the VIP parking area. NO VEHCILES WILL BE ALLOWED IN CAMPSITES. THOSE WHO PARK ALONG ROADWAYS WILL BE TOWED BY SOUTH JORDAN POLICE. Fires Cooking must be with propane stoves only. No open fires will be permi ed. Since fires are prohibited, wood cu ng tools should not be in the campsite. Water Each unit is responsible to supply their own water. There are limited water sources available for emergency use. Uniform Inspec on Each member of the unit will be inspected using the standard BSA uniform inspec on sheet. Unit scores will be an average of members scores. Full uniform is the key. Scout should remain in uniform for all ac vi es. This is a Scou ng event. Class B ac vity shirts are welcome. Ribbons will be awarded based on combined score with campsite inspec on. Award ribbons will be presented to units who meet the requirements during district award distribu on on Saturday at approximately 3:00pm. Campsite Inspec on All units at the Jamboral will be inspected by their district staff. The Century of Honor Ribbon will be awarded based on combined scores from the camp inspec on during the morning. This judging will take place between 9:00am and 11:00am. See the Century of Honor Campsite Inspec on Form in this guide for details. Award ribbons will be presented to units who meet the requirements on Saturday about 3:00pm. Meal Planning and Cooking All cooking should be done on backpacking or propane stoves under adult leader supervision. No open fires permi ed. Units are en rely responsible for their own food and its prepara on. Friday Dinner We suggest no or minimal cooking Saturday Breakfast Eat hardy Saturday Lunch We suggest li le or minimal cooking. All units to provide their own lunch. Dishwashing must be done in unit campsites. All garbage must be removed from the campsite by the unit. Your campsite will be inspected before you leave. Unit Campsite An appropriate, controlled campsite loca on will be iden fied for each unit within your district s assigned area. Page 7

Safety Precau ons Appropriate cau ons must be followed for all ac vi es in accordance with the BSA Guide to Safe Scou ng. No youth are permi ed to sleep in the tent of an adult other than his own parent or guardian. Youth should sleep in tents together. Adult leaders must respect the privacy of youth members and must protect their own privacy. Only flashlight or electric lanterns are permi ed in tents. Please do not bring footballs, frisbees, or other sports equipment to the encampment. These items have proven to be dangerous when used within this large of a group. In order to ensure the safety of all par cipants any of these items found in use will be confiscated. Each district will have a first aid sta on staffed with qualified personnel who can assist unit leaders in mee ng first aid needs. The council will have a first aid sta on manned during the en re jamboral. They will be able to assist in cases where the first aid need is beyond the ability of the district to provide aid. Ground Cover All ground cover (lawns of the equestrian park) must remain intact. Ditching of tents is not permi ed. Post holes for flags or gateways are not permi ed. Flag and gateway poles may be secured with guide ropes and stakes ONLY. Campout Safety Checklist The Campout Safety Checklist provides guidance on safety issues that you may encounter at a Scou ng Campout. At the Jamboral we would encourage you to use this tool in helping you in having conversa ons on iden fying risks that need to be mi gated or eliminated. Trading Card Informa on Front of Trading Cards There are 20 trading cards one card from each of the Great Salt Lake Council Districts. Each card depicts the 1910 Scout Leadership of that era. This program is to assist each Unit in Leadership, Scout spirit, campsite readiness, cooking and Scout cra s. Traffic Control TRAFFIC CONTROL INSTRUCTIONS The Jamboral Site will be accessed through three gates. (see Map) Gates 1, 2, and 3 are for entrance to the event. Units should plan to arrive as early as possible; there will be assigned arrival mes with your packet. Please follow the direc ons of the traffic personnel both on surface streets and event roadways. Parking is only allowed in designated areas, DO NOT park in unauthorized areas of the grounds. Districts are assigned specific gates for arrival, a color coded parking pass has been included in this packet, these are to be on displayed on the dash board for the en re event, if you need addi onal parking passes please call the camp desk for arrangement and pick up. It is not recommended to bring troop camp trailers, parking for those vehicles will be in the north parking area only. The gates are designated as follows. Units will have 3 minutes to pull up to unloading zone and unload, driver to remain with vehicle, immediately move vehicle to Assigned parking lot. Orange road will be for one way traffic only in direc on of arrival / departure. Once orange lot is full it will overflow into yellow / blue parking area. All vehicles are to be parked so that in case of evacua on all vehicle pull out going forward. No parking outside of designated parking area, all other area are for Livestock owners All units will unload immediately and vehicle will be (1 driver per) moved to Assigned parking lot, leader will remain with troop and move to check in upon receiving assigned camp site troop will move equipment to camp site, driver will then find troop at camp site.
