July 12th, 2012 Issue 7 Mark Your Calendars! - 7/26/12 Convoy TBA The Dinner Bell in McComb - 8/2/12 Monthly meeting at Penn`s on Lakeland Drive. Be sure to Like the Mississippi Corvette Club on Facebook. From the President Hello again and it was great to be at our last meeting and see everyone. We gained four new members this month. I guess it is normal with great Corvette people wanting to be with other great Corvette people. If you missed the drive to Lake Tiak O Khata for lunch and the visit to the Taylor Fire Museum in Louisville you missed some good food and a great time seeing fire engines that were perfectly restored from the turn of the century. Janie Wilson had been trying to get a visit for us to the museum for some time but it is only open during week days; however, due to another event they opened it on that weekend and notified Janie in case we wanted to attend. We jumped right on it and set up the trip. It was another great walk through Mississippi history for all attending. We will be announcing another driving and of course eating event for 21 July to McComb, MS for lunch at The Dinner Bell Restaurant. If you have never been to a restaurant with revolving tables it is really a special treat. Thanks Janie for bringing this up as it is just another one of those great Mississippi places to eat. Susan had picked out a place for us to drive and eat near Philadelphia but is has closed so we will be changing that one to the Blow Fly Inn in Biloxi, MS for an August event. Don t let the name fool you, they have great seafood. The Mississippi Corvette Classic is just around the corner so let s get out there and continue getting those silent auction items. There is a planning meeting every Tuesday afternoon from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at Tom Gerity s office on Old Canton Road. Everyone is welcome to attend and share your ideas. We are ordering event tee shirts this year. If you are interested in getting one now contact Bill Franks and get yours ordered so you can begin wearing it. Our tag sales are picking up and we are almost to the half way point. Let s get out there and market them. If every family in the club would get out and sell two tags or buy two if you have not already it would put us over the 300 mark. It will be a really great thing to be the only State in the nation with one. The tag information is posted on our web site. Let s all make a diligent effort to get the word out on our tags. Be sure and send your ideas to April as we are constantly striving to get things on the schedule that our members what to do. She is working to get our web site up to date with the meetings and events for 2012 and doing a great job of looking and researching out potential events for our club. Save the Wave and keep on driving and smiling.
MS Corvette Club Page 2 The Drive to Lake Tiak O Khata & the Taylor Fire Museum We had 6 cars and 12 members to go on the trip to Lake Taik O'Khata and the Taylor Fire Museum in Louisville. It is one of the best kept secrets in MS. Janie arranged the trip and Kirby led the drive. Also we stopped at the Williams Brother's Store on our trip back. It was a great trip with perfect weather. A collection of restored antique fire equipment including late 1700 hand pumpers, hose reels, horse drawn ladder trucks and wagons and many other fire antiquities. The museum was established by W.A. Taylor with the purpose of promoting an appreciation of fire fighting history, a love and respect for our American heritage, the spirit of volunteerism and an awareness of community fire safety. The museum had fire trucks from the turn of the century. They also had over 300 model airplanes and glass case upon class case of interesting items including a very large arrow head collection, cars (had a C1, C4,and C5) and a train that ran around a track in the ceiling around the entire building. You could even slide down the fire pole from the second floor to the first floor and of course, Kirby went up and slid down the pole. The Taylor Fire Museum is open during the week from 10 am to 4 pm but closed on the weekends except for special arrangements. 332 North Church Avenue Louisville, MS 39339 (662) 773-3421 http://www.taylorbig red.com/

This blonde cop stops a blonde driver and asks for identification. The blonde driver looks all around in her purse and can t find her license. I must have left it at home, officer. Well, do you have any kind of identification on you? asks the cop. The blonde takes out a pocket mirror and says, I do have this picture of me. Let me see it, says the cop. She holds up the mirror and looks in it. Then she says, Sorry. If I had known you were a police officer, I wouldn t have stopped you.
