There was an excellent turn out by the public and we did hand out lots of our Getting started in Toy Trains as well as quite a number of application forms to join our club. Many thanks to Neil Wilson, Mark Horne, Gary Zabenskie, Jim Barret and his two sons Robin and Daniel, Peter Berry, and Tom Kozar for their help in setting up the layout. Charles Reif brought his NEW addition to the layout and it added a fresh dimension to the already busy scene of moving trains. The trains running on Sunday were a sight to see. Mike Brown brought A City of Denver Set in gorgeous condition and it ran flawlessly. He also brought a standard gauge Lionel set that was equally wonderful to watch run. Gary Zabenskie, Neil Wilson, Ed Stevens, Frank Teoli, Frank Schmidt and Charles Reif all brought trains to run and to use the old fashioned phrase a good time was had by all. I want to bring everyone s attention to the fact that the club is now accepting orders for the Canadian Northern Woodside Reefer. Order forms are available in the printed version of the TTOS Canadian Flyer, you can download an order form from the online version of the newsletter or I will have some forms at the November meeting. It is important that all of our members think about supporting their club, these cars will definitely become a collectable in the near future and what better way to support the club and actually get something for your money. A hint or two dropped to your wife, girlfriend or children is always acceptable at his time of year. Christmas is a time for giving and it is also a time for receiving, especially when you could receive a Canadian Northern Woodside Reefer. The deadline for ordering is January 31, 2005. I received an email from Vies Salanski yesterday. I have included it along with the photos he sent in this newsletter. It looks like Vies is having some luck over in Britain adding to his Marx collection at reasonable prices. Two more quick notes, I hope everyone who went on the trip to GATS had a good time and don t forget about the membership contest and Jim Flett s Open House. I hope the coming Christmas season is good to everyone and I hope to see everyone at the November 28 th meeting. Regards, David G. NOTES FROM ABROAD. by VIES SALANSKI Hi Guys Here are some photos taken at two meets I've gone to in the past few months. There isn't a lot I can tell you about them except where they were taken. You can pretty much see what they're about. Hornby layout 1 and 3 were taken at toy train fair in Rugby. They show O Ga electric Hornby on a nice tubular rail layout. Hornby layout 2 is at the same fair but it has large gauge equipment. I think it's Bassette-Lowke made for Hornby. The two Coleman Mustard "vans" in the background are very hard to find. Hornby made them in O Ga but I don't think Hornby made any Standard Ga. The other photos were taken at a meeting of the TCS, the Train Collectors Society, at Leicester meeting on Nov 6. It was kind of a swap meet and exhibition The other Hornby layout is just what it says. Prewar Lionel has a small but dedicated following here and they had a nice exhibit as you can see. Marx is also represented here with a small but dedicated group. Ebay has certainly broadened their collecting horizons and you can see some of the stuff on show and for sale. Finally, I went to a Toy and Train auction in Rugby last weekend and found a nice prize at a price I wanted to pay. It's a British Marx M10000 set. Just like the US version but has made in England on each car. Box is a bit tough but I'm glad to get it at all. Last time I saw one here it went for three times what I paid. Just goes to show you, you never know at an auction. Cheers Vies November 2004 TTOS Canadian Flyer page 5

YOU RE INVITED NOTICE TO: TTOS Canadian Division Club Members OPEN HOUSE: Wednesday, December 1st, 2004 Jim Flett & his wife have invited TTOS Canadian Division Members and their wives to visit them at their home 13816Reichenback Rd., Pitt Meadows FYI Jim has the largest collection of O Scale Brass Locomotives in Western Canada plus a large assortment of collector automobiles and his wife collects cookie jars. Refreshments Served RSVP 604 460 0237 Lionel Files For Bankruptcy... ou may have already heard the news, but a Court Y ruling over a lawsuit prompted the filing. Day-today operations will continue. Lionel L.L.C., announced that it has filed a voluntary petition in the Bankruptcy Court of the Southern district of New York for protection under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The filing was prompted by a $40.8 million judgment against the company for the misappropriation of a competitor's toy train designs by a subcontractor. Lionel's day-to-day operations will continue as usual, including meeting all merchandise shipping obligations customary for the holiday selling period and rolling out new products on schedule. The company remains dedicated to creating and manufacturing the quality product for which it has long been known. Jerry Calabrese, the recently named CEO of Lionel, said, "The MTH judgment a alone has forced us to take this action. November 2004 TTOS Canadian Flyer page 6 Lionel is sound Company that enjoys healthy sales, growing demand for our products and the best brand and reputation in the business. Having said that, the size and weight of this judgment is just too much for what is essentially a small business to bear. Taking advantage of bankruptcy protection will not only allow us to pursue an eventual reversal of this unfair decision, it will enable us to create, manufacture and ship our products in our normal and usual way." Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code allows a company to continue to operate its business and manage its assets in the ordinary course of business. Note: US Congress enacted Chapter 11 to enable a debtor to preserve its going concern value and operations, as well as to provide its employees with jobs and to satisfy creditor claims based upon the value of the reorganized company. - News item submitted by Mark Horne
