Posh R un D ow n Issue No 32 Established 2015 Run Report Run No 2548 Glen Street, Eastwood. 2nd May 2016 Box Kite and Yakkity Yak We would have come if it had been Westwood. That perennial reluctance of the Posh to go west of Epping Road is still alive and kicking resulting in a smaller than usual pack to savour the pleasures of the back blocks of Eastwoo sorry Goonshow Eastwood. It may also have been the fact that this was also the venue for the Box Kite and Yakkity Yak infamous worst food run number 1926 on 31 st May 2004, more about the food later. The warm up exercises were eschewed by the pack in the light of the happenings with Mr Foes reasoning that warming up exercises only use up valuable energy and wear out the heart quicker both of which should be saved for the future. Knowing that Box Kite is not averse to setting long runs the pack decided that the quicker they started the quicker they would finish and get to the restaurant so they set off towards Eastwood station. The first check was basically for the runners to ensure that they would be left to chase the walkers. Crossing over or was it under the railway line the trail headed north along Railway Avenue and into Somerville Park on the east side of Blaxland Road to the next check at Terry s Creek bridge. This enabled the walkers to catch up whilst the runners fruitlessly searched Vimiera Reserve for the trail which was eventually found on the other side of the creek going east on Vimiera Road. From here the trail took a quick right turn into Corunna Road and along to the junction with Balaclava Road where the walkers and runners trails separated. The runners now did a quick sprint along Balaclava Road and left into Lincoln Street to be completely fooled by a check back in Wood Street thus having to retrace their tracks back up a short steep hill. Returning to Vimiera Road the trail now went north towards T G Milner Sportsground home to the Eastwood Rugby Union club. Due to the lack of local knowledge the runners were again fooled by the false trail into the ground and had to be called back by the Trailmaster who guided them towards the trail along Rugby Road and into Culloden Road. The last two checks did nothing for the humour of Plunger who was more familiar with the area than most because he knew it was still a long run home, in fact he was only half way round the trail. Pressing on along Abuklea Road taking a right into Longview Road and a left into North Road the hares could not resist one more check back which had the desired result on Cinderella who began to buckle at the knees.
Summoning up the last reserves of energy the runners pressed on to re-join with the walkers trail to Jim Walsh Park for what turned out to be the last check. At this point Plunger made the call that he was turning right into Welby Street trail or no trail and met no resistance from the runners. It turned out to be the correct call as the trail was found half way up the hill. With the bucket beckoning the trail crossed Blaxland Road and into First Avenue for the run in to the finish in around eighty minutes followed for a once by the walkers who dribbled in over the next fifteen minutes or so. It was a genuine run perhaps a little on the long side for the walkers and the checks and check backs certainly kept the front runners under control. However the hares lost any brownie points they may have gained by abandoning the bucket and leaving it empty for the last of the returning walkers to fend for themselves, an unforgivable crime. The On On was at Me Pho restaurant the site of the infamous worst meal however this time the hares spoke to the chef and gave him strict orders regarding the quality. The Vietnamese variant of the spring roll entrée was followed by Vietnamese noodle and meat soup which went down well with most and was sufficient to fill even the biggest stomach. Down downs were given to the hares for no other reason than it is tradition. This week s captain s picks were Plunger and Wraparound for good and loyal hashing. Humour was provided for a change by Scud who told a slightly politically incorrect joke which had the non Anglo Saxon patrons in stiches and was followed by the ever ready Tic Toc who told a joke that left everybody bemused. The shit box rally boys were given a warm send off with good wishes and safe driving. Lastly members should note that the details of the weekend away have been released so get in quick to reserve accommodation and pay the cost of the holding deposit of one night to Hash Cash. GEEK CHALLENGE #30 YOUR CHOICE boarded the last car of the passenger train at Central Station bound for Wellington and the MBR8. He set his Hash Bag down and walked forward through the carriages at a steady rate of 3kph. Twelve minutes later he reached the bar car of the train, spent two minutes to buy a couple of cans of beer then retaced his steps back to his seat. Because now he was travelling against the forward motion of the train, his pace was only 2kph thus the return trip took eighteen minutes. Just as he got to his seat he saw a sign out the window indicating that they had travelled 25 kms from Central. What average rate of speed was the train moving? Complimentary Dinner Every week a members name will be drawn out of the hat and he will receive a complementary dinner at the next week s run. Humour //// Jim was listening to the radio this morning when the host invited callers to reveal the nicknames they had for their wives. The best call was from a brave chap who called his wife, "Harvey Norman". The host asked him why that name. He replied, "Absolutely no interest for 36 months." ////
